1 IDEA Architectural Design Competition 2018 Introduction They are looking for an architectural firm to take on the job. You own and operate a small architectural firm with two other partners. All three of you have recently passed your licensure exam, and are excited to create a proposal for your firm s first potential client. Your potential client is a local Habitat for Humanity chapter that was given an existing home as part of a community revitalization program. Your team will use the sketches of the existing floor plan and measurements for your proposal. Not all measurements are included in the sketches, your team can calculate and adjust as needed. The home is in an older section of the city and will need to be gutted down to the stud walls on the inside. As the home was built in the early 1900s and was Balloon framed you will need to consider modern fire proofing codes during this rehab. The family who will be taking possession of the home will also be involved in the reconstruction. You should research HFH to be aware of HFH s guidelines and how this may impact your project. The family of 5 consisting of a husband, wife, and 3 school aged children will reside in the home. The home is an early 1900 s era 2 story home built on limestone foundation that only allows for 72 ceiling height. The house may be raised and an English basement added for extra habitable area. The current basement level may only require minor renovation if that is what your team decides. The interior will be renovated according to your plans and your client s sketches.the family requires at least 3 bedrooms, but the plan may include more if your plan allows. A shed style open porch is attached to the front of the home. An enclosed porch/mudroom is attached to the rear-- see pictures. Exterior aluminum siding and asphalt shingle roof may also be changed if your team desires. All changes and modifications should be calculated into your budget.
