1 SECTION COLD FORMED METAL FRAMING PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 SUMMARY A. Section Includes: 1. Non-axial-load-bearing CFS framing. 2. Metal wall backings. 3. Slotted channel framing (trapeze support assemblies). 4. Supplementary components and accessories necessary for a complete installation, whether or not such items are indicated on the Drawings or included in the Specifications. 1.2 SECTION REQUIREMENTS A. Submittals 1. Product Data: Required for each type of product indicated. 2. Shop Drawings: Required in order to show the following. a. Framing member sizes, thicknesses, and types; b. Framing layout and spacing; c. Fastening and anchorage details. 3. Samples: Not required. 4. Delegated Design Submittals/Design Data: Required in order to show compliance with design loads and specified performance requirements. Structural analysis data shall be signed and sealed by the qualified professional engineer responsible for its preparation. 5. Test and Evaluation Reports: Research/Evaluation reports are required as evidence of general approval by the AHJ as being in compliance with or an equivalent alternate to building code requirements. B. Qualifications: 1. Professional Engineer Qualifications: A professional engineer who is legally qualified to practice in the jurisdiction where the Project is located, and who is experienced in providing engineering services of the kind indicated. a. Engineering Services: Mean those services performed for the design of metal stud framing installations that are similar to this Project in material, design, and extent. COLD FORMED METAL FRAMING

2 b. Engineering Responsibility: Shop drawings, design calculations, and other structural data shall be prepared directly by or under the direct supervision of a qualified professional engineer. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Manufacturers: Provide products manufactured by one of the following. 1. California Expanded Metal Products Co. (CEMCO). 2. ClarkDietrich Building Systems. 3. Olmar Supply Inc. 4. SCAFCO Corp. 5. The Steel Network, Inc. (TSN). 2.2 MATERIALS A. CFS Material: HDG metallic-coated steel sheet conforming to ASTM A 1003 Structural Grade 50, Type H (ST50H), zinc-coated with at least a G60 coating designation, having equal coating weight on both surfaces. G60e, G60EQ, and similar equivalent coatings are prohibited. B. Lightgage Metal Material: HDG metallic-coated steel sheet conforming to ASTM C 645, manufactured from steel sheet conforming to ASTM A 1003 Non-Structural Grade 33 (NS33), zinc-coated in conformance with ASTM A 653 with at least a G40 coating designation, having equal coating weight on both surfaces. 2.3 CFS FURRING A. Hat Furring Channels: 1. Products: Provide one of the following. a. FC Series Furring Channel manufactured by ClarkDietrich Building Systems. b. Prime Wall Furring Channel manufactured by The Steel Network. 2. Items must conform to the following. a. Depth: 7/8- or 1-1/2-inch deep channels, as indicated. b. Thickness: 43 mils (18-gage). c. Web: 1-1/4 inches wide. d. Screw Flanges: 3/4-inch wide. B. Z-shaped Furring Channels: 1. Products: Provide one of the following. a. Z-Furring (ZF-Series) manufactured by ClarkDietrich Building Systems. COLD FORMED METAL FRAMING

3 b. Prime Wall Resilient Channel (RC1) manufactured by The Steel Network. 2. Items must conform to the following. a. Depth: One to 3 inches deep, as indicated. b. Thickness: 43 mils (18-gage). c. Screw Flanges: 1-1/4 inches wide. 2.4 CFS STUD FRAMING A. Studs: 1. Description: Pre-punched roll-formed C-shaped framing members with manufacturer s standard knockout sizing and spacing. 2. Product: Provide Structural Stud S162 (CSJ) manufactured by ClarkDeitrich Building Systems, or equal. 3. Items must conform to the following. a. Depth: As indicated on the Drawings. c. Flanges: 1-5/8-inch wide stiffened flanges with at least 1/2-inch returns (lip). B. Tracks (Top and Bottom Runners): 1. Description: Un-punched roll-formed U-shaped runners manufactured from the same material to corresponding stud sizes and gages. 2. Product: Provide Structural Track manufactured by ClarkDeitrich Building Systems, or equal. 3. Items must conform to the following. a. Depth: As indicated on the Drawings. c. Flanges: At least 1-1/2-inch wide unstiffened flanges. C. Deflection Track Systems: 1. Description: Slotted roll- or brake-formed track installed in head-of-wall deflection conditions to accommodate vertical movement caused by normal head-of-wall and floor extension or compression. 2. Product: Provide one of the following. a. MaxTrack slotted deflection track or BlazeFrame fire stop deflection track manufactured by ClarkDietrich Building Systems. b. CEMCO Slotted Track (CST) manufactured by CEMCO. D. Manufactured Bridging Channels: 1. Description: Roll-formed channel- or L-shaped stiffeners with pre-notched slots installed in both load and non-load bearing walls to help resist stud twisting. 2. 4 a. Spazzer 5400 manufactured by ClarkDietrich Building Systems. b. BridgeBar 150 manufactured by The Steel Network. 3. Items must conform to the following. a. Size: 1-1/2-inch wide by 1/2-inch deep. 4. Bridging Clips: Provide one of the following from the selected bridging channel manufacturer. a. Spazzer Bar Guard manufactured by ClarkDietrich Building Systems. b. BridgeClip, BC600, or BC800 manufactured by The Steel Network. E. Cold Rolled Channel (CRC) Bridging: 1. Description: Un-punched roll-formed U-shape stiffeners installed in both load and non-load bearing walls to help resist stud twisting. 2. Items must conform to the following. a. Size: 1-1/2-inch wide by 1/2-inch deep. c. Flanges: 1-1/2 inches wide unstiffened flanges. 3. Manufactured Bridging Clips: Provide one of the following. a. EasyClip U-, B-, or X-Series Clip Angles manufactured by ClarkDietrich Building Systems. b. BridgeClip, BC600, or BC800 manufactured by The Steel Network. 4. Alternative Bridging Clips: As an alternate to manufactured bridging clips, 1-1/2-inch wide by 1/2-inch deep by full stud width cold-rolled angle clips manufactured from at least 54-mil (16-GAGE) base metal thickness HDG metallic-coated steel sheet may be provided. F. Flat Strap Bridging (Strapping):. 1. Application: Flat sheet installed to provide resistance to stud rotation and minor axis buckling under loads for studs deeper than 6 inches. 2. Items must conform to the following: a. Width: Between 2 and 20 inches, as indicated or otherwise necessary. G. Built-Up Headers: 1. Built-Up Curtain Wall Headers: Un-punched roll-formed C-shaped framing members and U-channel runners. 2. Load-Bearing Box Beam Headers: Un-punched roll-formed C-shaped framing members. 3. Items must conform to the following: a. Depth: As indicated on the Drawings. COLD FORMED METAL FRAMING

5 c. Flanges: 1-5/8-inch wide stiffened flanges with at least 1/2-inch returns (lip). 4. Header Connectors: a. Description: Connectors to attach either beams to columns or headers to jambs. b. Product: Provide DROP'N LOCK CLIP connectors manufactured by ClarkDietrich Building Systems, or equal. H. Wall Backing: General multipurpose flat sheet and formed metal stock used as backing to support shelves, cabinets, fixtures or handrails when applied to metal framing. Provide wall backing in addition to, not as a replacement for, tension strapping or cross bracing. 1. Heavy-Duty Backing: a. Description: Used for supporting cabinets, equipment and similar items distributing up to a maximum of 100 pounds per stud. b. Backing Material: At least 6-inch wide un-punched C-shaped studs manufactured from at least 54-mil (MSG 16) base steel thickness HDG metallic-coated steel sheet. 1) Provide individual runner lengths long enough to span at least 2 studs. 2) Notch and bend track legs so that backing plate will be flush with exterior face of stud. 3) Do not cut track legs between supporting studs. 4) Fasten backing track to each stud with 3 screw fasteners per stud. 2. Medium-Duty Backing: a. Description: Used for supporting cabinets, equipment and similar items distributing up to a maximum of 20 pounds per stud. b. Backing Material: At least 6-inch wide un-punched U-shaped runners manufactured from at least 54-mil (MSG 16) base steel thickness HDG metalliccoated steel sheet. 1) Provide individual runner lengths long enough to span at least 2 studs. 2) Fasten backing track to each stud with 3 screw fasteners per stud. 3. Light-Duty Backing: a. Description: Used for supporting cabinets, equipment and similar items distributing up to a maximum of 5 pounds per stud. b. Backing Material: At least 6-inch wide backing strip manufactured from at least 54-mil (MSG 16) base steel thickness HDG metallic-coated steel sheet. 1) Provide individual runner lengths long enough to span at least 3 studs. 2) Fasten backing track to each stud with at least one screw fasteners per stud. 2.5 CFS SPECIALTY FRAMING A. KCS Studs (King Kong Studs): 1. Description: Pre-punched C-shaped framing members with manufacturer s standard knockout sizing and spacing. 2. Items must conform to the following. 6 a. Depth: As indicated on the Drawings. b. Thickness: At least 54 mils (16-gage). c. Flanges: 3-inch wide stiffened flanges with at least 7/8-inch returns (lip). B. Manufactured Headers: 1. Description: One- or 2-piece pre-engineered header with associated inserts and clips. 2. Products: Provide one of the following. a. RedHeader RO Rough Opening System manufactured by ClarkDietrich Building Systems. b. Pro-X manufactured by Brady Construction Innovations, Inc. C. Corner Angle: 1. Description: Utility angles installed as a connection strut or angle, as corner reinforcement, or other various framing applications. 2. Items must conform to the following: a. Thickness: At least 30 mils (20-gage). b. Legs: 2- or 3-inch wide legs, as indicated, unless a wider or uneven leg size is explicitly indicated; or is otherwise supplied, required, recommended, authorized, or accepted by the manufacturer. 2.6 ACCESSORIES A. Shims: Load bearing, non-leaching, high-density multimonomer plastic. B. Multipurpose Connectors Rigid Connectors: Provide one of the following. 1. Description: Universal extended rigid-connection framing clips installed to support various rigid frame connections. 2. Products: Provide one of the following. a. Uni-Clip End Clip (UCEC) manufactured by ClarkDietrich Building Systems. b. StiffClip AL manufactured by The Steel Network. 3. Items must conform to the following. a. Depth: At least 3 inches. b. Thickness: At least 68 mils (14-gage). c. Flanges: 1-1/2-inch wide stiffened flanges with at least 1/2-inch returns (lip). C. Bypass Deflection Connectors: 1. Description: Clips installed to attach exterior curtain wall studs to the building superstructure and to provide for vertical building movement independent of the metal stud framing. 2. Bypass Slab Connectors: Provide one of the following. a. Slide Clip (minimal or no standoff conditions) or Fast Clip Slide Clip (medium standoff conditions) manufactured by ClarkDietrich Building Systems. COLD FORMED METAL FRAMING

7 b. VertiClip SLB manufactured by The Steel Network. 3. Bypass Structure Connectors: Provide one of the following. a. Quick Clip (medium standoff conditions) and Extended Fast Clip Slide Clip or Fast Strut (large standoff conditions) manufactured by ClarkDietrich Building Systems. b. VertiClip SLS, VertiClip SLT or VertiClip SLT(L) manufactured by The Steel Network. D. Combination Vertical Deflection and Lateral Drift Connectors: 1. Description: Bypass connectors installed to attach exterior curtain wall studs to the building superstructure and to provide both vertical and lateral building movement independent of the metal stud framing. 2. Products: Provide the following. a. Clip Connectors: Provide DriftClip DSLB (attaches to slab edge) or DriftClip DSLS (attaches to superstructure) manufactured by The Steel Network, or equal. b. Combination Track-and-Clip Bypass Slab Connectors: Provide DriftTrack DTSLB track with VertiClip SLB clip connectors having step bushings preinstalled in vertical slots manufactured by The Steel Network, or equal. E. Fasteners: 1. Screw Fasteners: Provide at least inch shank diameter (#10-16) by at least 5/8-inch long Philips or hex washer head stainless steel, bi-metal, duplex anticorrosive steel, 3-coat anti-corrosive steel, or ceramic-coated anti-corrosive steel screw fasteners specified in Section , unless another fastener type is explicitly indicated; or is otherwise supplied, required, recommended, authorized, or accepted by the manufacturer. 2. Power-Actuated Fasteners (PAF): Provide powder-actuated or low velocity drivenfasteners to attach framing members to concrete or structural steel supporting construction. F. Other Accessories: Provide other accessories and similar secondary items normally furnished or necessary for a complete and proper installation unless otherwise supplied, required, recommended, authorized, or accepted by the manufacturer for the actual inservice conditions applicable to this project. 8 PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS A. General: 1. Comply with ASTM C 1007 requirements for installing framing members and accessories level, plumb, square, true to line, and securely fastened. 2. Cut framing members by sawing or shearing; torch cutting is not permitted. 3. Fasten framing members by welding or screw fastening. 4. Fasten reinforcement plates over web penetrations larger than standard punched openings. 5. Temporarily brace framing until entire integrated supporting structure has been completed and permanent connections are secured. B. Installation: 1. Install load bearing shims or grout between the underside of wall bottom track or rim track and the top of foundation wall or slab at stud locations to ensure a uniform bearing surface on supporting concrete or masonry construction. 2. Install sealer gaskets to isolate the underside of wall bottom track or rim track from the top of foundation wall or slab at stud locations. 3. Install continuous top and bottom tracks and securely anchor at corners and ends. Squarely seat studs against webs of top and bottom tracks. Space studs as indicated, set plumb, align, and fasten both flanges of studs to top and bottom tracks. a. Install and fasten horizontal bridging in stud system, spaced in rows not more than 48 inches apart. b. Isolate non-load-bearing, curtain-wall framing from building structure using vertical slide clips or deflection track designed to accommodate structural frame vertical deflection and lateral drift requirements without transferring vertical forces into framing members that are not engineered to support axial loads while providing lateral support. c. Install miscellaneous framing, components, accessories and connections to provide a complete and stable wall-framing system. 4. Tolerances: Install structural metal stud framing with a maximum variation of 1/8- inch in 10 feet, and with individual framing members no more than plus or minus 1/8-inch from plan location. Cumulative error shall not exceed minimum fastening requirements of sheathing, surfacing or other finishing materials. 5. Repair: At no cost to the Owner, repair galvanized coatings that become damaged. Comply with ASTM A 780, Annex A2 using galvanizing repair paint. END OF SECTION AWCWEST 13H02 COLD FORMED METAL FRAMING
