4 DOs and DON Ts Do Always check each delivery against QuayQuip s packing instructions. Always store goods in a safe, dry store or compound until required. Always carefully remove plywood packing, steel supports, and recycle in accordance with local laws. Always lift the components using the lifting eyes of a soft sling. Always lift vertically and check the weights and centre of gravity. Always lay components carefully on dry firm ground and supported by dunnage. Always be prepared with appropriate tools for site assembly prior to installation. Always use the correct tightening torques. Don t Never open packing until the contents have been identified. Never open packing until needed for installation, to avoid loss on site. Never use force to open packing. Never use hooks or lift truck forks for moving components. Never drag or scrape components along the ground. Never drop the components or lay them directly onto rocky or waterlogged ground. Never perform other works such as welding, grinding or shot blasting in the vicinity of the storage or assembly areas. Never over-tighten fixings. Note: If at any stage the paint work or galvanized finish is damaged during the above procedures, QuayQuip should be notified immediately. This should be done in writing with a short report including photographs and description of how the damage occurred. It is quite likely that minor damage can be adequately repaired on site and that QuayQuip can advise on a suitable repair procedure. Failure to report such damage, however minor, could lead to a degradation in performance and service life and could invalidate warranties. 4

5 Arrival of Goods At QuayQuip, we take meticulous care when packing our goods prior to shipment. Our despatch department routinely make loading diagrams and take photographs of each container as it is being loaded. Before shipment, it is advisable that you ask your nearest QuayQuip office for this information before shipment as this will assist you when unloading on site. Always ensure that the appropriate lifting equipment (including a soft sling) is used and that great care is taken to avoid damage to paintwork during unloading. Any damage that may have occurred during transit should be reported to QuayQuip immediately, and photographed prior to unloading the container. If in any doubt at all, please contact your nearest QuayQuip office for instructions on packing, lifting weights and lifting points. 5

6 Bollard Installation Method 1 Anchors to be assembled according to the relevant drawing for the bollard. use grease when assembling the anchors. To prevent movement of the baseplate, we recommend attaching the baseplate to the nut or to the anchors with a small tack-weld. Small tack-welds are also recommended between the anchors and the concrete reinforcement to prevent anchor movement within the pour-in frame. 2 Place anchors into the pour-in frame, at least 2mm below the anchor pour-in frame (figure 1). The top of the anchor bar s thread should not project above the nut. 3 Install and align the anchor pour-in frame, including the anchors, into the concrete form. The number of pour-in frames should match the number of bollards needed for each concrete pour. We recommend applying a suitable grease to the outside of the frame for easy removal. 4 After concrete has hardened sufficiently, carefully remove the pour-in frame. Do not leave the frame too long in setting concrete, as removing it will become more difficult the more time passes. If for any reason removing the frame is too difficult, do not apply excess force as that can damage the frame. Damaged frames should not be used again as they can lead to improper bollard installation. 5 If the bollard is not placed immediately, protect the anchors from possible damage by screwing the nuts onto the anchor bars and wrapping them with enough plastic to protect them. 6 Prepare the bollard for placement. Place the adjustment bolts in the bollard baseplate and ensure they project ±25mm below the bollard baseplate, and that the anchors are at least 2mm below the baseplate. 7 Bollard Installation Method 7 Raise the bollard using lifting equipment with soft slings, and place it over the over the anchors. The bollard is set correctly when the baseplate s upper surface is level with the top of the concrete. Hand-tighten the nuts to stop the bollard moving. If the concrete slopes inland, the front side of the bollard (the water side) has to be levelled with the upper level of the concrete. Bollards should always be installed with their baseplates level. 8 The gap in the concrete that surrounds the bollard baseplate should be filled until level with the concrete s upper surface using shrinkproof cement mortar or grout (at least BETEC140 or equivalent see Check the grout supplier s instructions for get the recommended hardening time. Mortar should be fully hardened before the bollard is used or problems may result later on. 9 After the mortar or grout has fully hardened, remove the hand-tightened nuts. Apply one layer of paint to the bottom of the anchor hole s countersink, to prevent paint damage below the nut. Hand-tighten the nuts onto the anchors again. 10 Fasten the nuts fully, in a cross pattern, using an electric or hydraulic torque wrench. The applicable torque can be found in the documents supplied with the bollard (documents may be sent separately from the bollard). Check the nuts for proper tightening after two weeks. If required, reapply the necessary torque to tighten them to the material yield. 11 Anchor recess holes in the bollard baseplate have to be filled with artificial resin (at least BETOCHEM 3000 or equivalent see around the anchor nuts and adjustment bolt holes. The holes must be free of grease and other contaminants should be clean before filling. 12 After assembly the bollard must be checked for possible paint damage. If necessary repair any damage according the relevant specifications. 8 Caution Lifting and fitting of fenders over water is a potentially hazardous undertaking. This should be carried out by those responsible for the project installation. Safety is paramount. Always ensure the following: 1 That the applicable Health (Welfare) and Safety Laws of the country of installation are strictly obeyed. 2 Only qualified and competent operatives shall carry out the work and all are wearing appropriate PPE. 3 Cranes and lifting equipment have been professionally assessed for the applicable lift loads and radiuses required to install the fenders, and they are suitable for the local environment.
