3 General Information Service platforms and catwalks are built to meet OSHA specifications. Where HVAC units and other rooftop-mounted equipment require a level platform (catwalk) to provide access for service, repair or maintenance, Thybar shall design and manufacture according to project specific requirements and applicable codes. Catwalks must meet governing building code standards, as demonstrated by comprehensive analysis that the catwalks meet or exceed requirements. All catwalks must be installed in strict accordance with applicable codes and manufacturers standards. Whenever a conflict occurs between the manufacturers or construction standards, the most stringent shall apply. Load analysis calculations must be provided for catwalks. Calculations are to be signed and sealed by a professional engineer (PE) registered in the state where the project is located. All materials shall be provided by the same manufacturer and shall be certified by the manufacturer. Catwalks shall be made of a material that is compatible with the roof curb and the rooftop unit base rail material. Dissimilar metals are not to be used. 54 years of excellence

4 Specification Thybar catwalks shall be connected to Thybar roof curbs with 12 gauge gussets of size, shape and quantity as required to resist forces as determined by latest versions of the International Building Code, California Building Code, Florida Building Code or other applicable codes. Roof curb walls will be reinforced with 12 gauge backing plates to safely transfer catwalk load to curb wall. Gussets are to be bolted to curb wall using ½ bolts. Catwalks are to be designed and constructed to resist the effects of site-specific concentrated loads, uniform loads and dead loads according to the requirements of the International Building Code. Curb walls are to be of heavy gauge galvanized steel side construction, and minimum wall thickness is determined by analyzing the stresses generated when the HVAC unit and catwalk design force act on the curb wall. This specification is to be a minimum requirement for catwalk design consideration and is not intended as a substitute for legislated, more stringent, national, state or local construction requirements. Catwalks shall be constructed: - By Thybar Corporation, [inches wide, inches high] - Walkway shall be of galvanized 14 gauge serrated steel, supported as determined by a [state of project location] registered Professional Engineer (PE). - With handrail of [inch height (42 min.)]. Handrail to be made of Kee-Klamp railing components between schedule 40 galvanized pipe. Catwalk ladder shall have 2 Grip-Strut ladder rungs of 14 gauge galvanized material. 54 years of excellence

5 Specification SUBMITTALS A. Submittals shall demonstrate that the catwalks utilized are in compliance with the specifications. Submittals shall include material and type of connection hardware required. B. Drawings showing catwalk width, height and method of access. C. A manufacturer s statement showing that the catwalk will meet the applicable code requirements. Statement is to include load calculations signed and sealed by a professional engineer (PE) registered in the state where the project is located. D. The magnitude of the load induced force is to be determined by governing code requirements. The force is to be reduced into an equivalent statically applied force. The statically applied force is to act in horizontal and vertical directions at the catwalk to curb connections, resulting in torsion, flexure, tension and shear forces that the gussets and attachment hardware must be shown to be able to resist. EXECUTION - INSTALLATION A. Install in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions. Catwalks must not be installed in a manner that will result in rooftop unit damage or roof curb reduced weight carrying capacity. B. The roof curb shall be placed prior to the installation of the catwalk. Catwalk shall be installed prior to installation of rooftop unit. C. Prior to performing installation of catwalk, Contractor is to notify project designer of any conflicts with other trades or equipment that may result in undesirable contact due to inadequate space or other unforeseen conditions. Corrective work necessitated by conflicts after installation shall be at the responsible contractor's expense. D. Contractor is to notify project designer of any discrepancies between the specifications and field conditions or changes required due to specific equipment selection prior to installation. On completion of installation of catwalk herein specified, the Contractor shall inspect the completed system and report in writing any installation error or other faults in the system that could affect the load resistant capabilities of the catwalk/roof curb assembly. The Contractor shall submit report to the project designer and include consequent steps taken to properly complete the catwalk/curb installation. 54 years of excellence

6 Specification Platform/catwalk curb assembly instructions are to be used as general guidelines only. Included with shipment are as-built drawings for proper location of sections and channels. Use as-built drawings to identify and locate match-marked sections. If curbs will not be installed and roofed-in upon receipt, it is recommended that curbs should be stored level and adequately supported to avoid damage and, a clean, dry location to avoid possible corrosion problems associated with extended contact with the ground. If the roof curb will be mounted on a new building, it can be assembled at any convenient location and installed as soon as the roof support members are in place. As a general rule, the curb should be placed directly on the roof support members, use tack welding (or other equivalent fastening method) to secure the curb in place. As an alternative, the roof curb can also be mounted on a roof deck. When a deck is used, be sure to provide additional blocking directly below the curb flanges to give further support and minimize vibration. 1. Select an area conveniently located near the unit installation site, and open the curb shipping carton(s). Verify that all materials, nuts, bolts and gasketing, were received. 2. Apply adhesive backed gasketing provided with curb to the entire perimeter of the top of roof curb and all supply & return channels. 3. Optional TEMS Rail: Locate TEMS Rail as per curb drawing supplied with shipment. Note: These instructions are meant as a general guide only.
