Virtual Design Engineering An introduction to our BIM Strategy

Executive Statement Virtual Design Engineering The services we deliver to our customers Virtual Design Engineering are committed to the implementation of Building Information Modeling across the design, and construction. This is an ambitious target and is about much more than the adoption of new technology. The implementation of BIM is in essence a cultural change programme which will require us to embrace our core values of teamwork and mutual dependency to engage the hearts and minds of all involved to achieve maximum benefit. VDE's experienced team of Modular System adds value to those who has fabrication shops. The emergence of BIM-related technologies is transforming the design and construction industry and continues to reshape how projects are delivered. VDE has realized a variety of benefits, including improved communication amongst project stakeholders, enhanced efficiencies, and greater certainty for both schedule and cost conformance and the reduction of risk. VDE recognizes that BIM affords us the opportunity to deliver a higher quality product in the most efficient manner to our clients. Mohammed Nadeem Khan Chief Executive

Introduction Virtual Design Engineering commitment to BIM The ethos of BIM is aligned with Virtual Design Engineering Values Through the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling): Creates lean collaborative working practices for exemplar professional delivery. Promotes the culture of BIM to support the delivery of market leading Sustainability Supports our people to develop and enhance our service offering. Innovates and improves our Integrated Service Delivery throughout the project lifecycle enabling operational efficiency through data rich assets. Inspire engaged and energized people. Accelerate the development of talent and respond to our growth. Continuously create greater breadth and depth in capability, skills and expertise Retain talent by making a career within Virtual Design Engineering. Foster a high performance culture. Our goals for successful BIM delivery are to: Ensure that Virtual Design Engineering BIM is championed by each service sector, enabling Virtual Design Engineering to provide an integrated project solution. Ensure there is a BIM Execution Plan (BEP) in place at the inception of every project that is appropriate to the Virtual Design Engineering offering, to provide clarity of the project scope and specific objectives. Ensuring that our supply chain are engaged early in the project life-cycle, ensuring knowledge is shared, so that we can leverage the benefits of right first time design; achieve timely decision making; optioneering and the potential for off-site fabrication are explored.

Culture The Culture of BIM To successfully implement BIM there needs to be a change in our culture and approach to project delivery. This understanding and approach is being communicated through our business units and functional leads. The Revolutionizing BIM For Virtual Design Engineering the mindset of BIM culture is summed up in three statements: 1. BIM is about neutrality, integration, co-ordination and interoperability of information created and available to all project stakeholders. 2. BIM is an integrated process that enables projects to be designed, constructed and maintained more efficiently and effectively enabling faster, better, cheaper and greener results. 3. The concept of BIM is entirely underpinned by the need for a collaborative culture, no matter how much planning, process, or technology you apply to a project, the culture will always dictate the outcome. We recognize the importance of effective work process management and regular communication when outsourcing services. Improve project efficiency by streamlining work-flow to provide high quality services

BIM Process at VDE Successful BIM implementation relies on clearly defined and robust processes that strictly adhere to the Plan, Do, Check, Act Methodology. The creation of project guidelines and systems help stakeholders manage individual and collective project objectives to successful completion. The Virtual Design Engineering BIM process methodology can be summarised as: Plan Project Information documents the What, Why and who of a project. Model Standards that state the agreed task Standards. Model Level of Detail (LOD) defines the appropriate level of detail for inclusion within the model environment for each phase or stage of design. Do Use collaborative processes and technology to build a federated virtual project model. Use the federated model for design, construction, operation, maintenance and eventually demolition. Check Deliver predefined Quality Assurance by validating project information, model standards and level of detail via the Federated model. Act VDE use Completion Reports at key project stages to review models and constructed assets, then feed this learning back into subsequent stages and future projects. The above is embodied within the project specific BIM Execution Plan (BEP). Our Services HVAC 1. HVAC system is modelled based on SMACNA & DW144 standards. 2. The final model is generated after resolving any potential issues by re-routing, changing elevations and resizing. 3. Shop drawings are generated from coordinated MEP model. 4. Shop drawings are detailed enough to use for workshop fabrication and on-site installations.

detail rebar shop drawing will be generating based on basic input of rebar information with standard. An automated BBS sheet will also entitled used on Rebar-cad software. Only BBS sheet (excel and pdf format): BBS chart will be prepared by manual calculation in excel and pdf format. Our Quality Control Process Quality Control Process The main objective of the quality control (QC) process is to detect errors and correct them as quickly and efficiently as possible. Ensuring quality is a group effort, and our dedicated QC team is led by senior managers with more than 14 years of experience in MEP Coordination and Quality Control. The model is plotted on paper and a preliminary grid by grid check highlighted in yellow marker is done comparing it with the original contract documents. Member of the project team assists with this part of the process. The project team leader sends a status report to the QC Department. The QA/QC Manager reviews and distributes the files to QC Team to begin QC phase II 1. Missing data 2. Mismatches with the contract documents 3. Clashes (Old/New), Elevation, Routing, Fittings, etc. 4. Construction point of view 5. No-Fly-Zones. 6. Attribute Checking (Pressure class, Pipe material, etc.) 7. Location of Equipment such as VAV, Sleeves, Hangers, Valves. 8. Equipment Connection details as per Schematic Drawings. 9. Equipment Models as per Technical Submittals. 10. Annotations & Dimensions, Aesthetic View 11. Any miscellaneous issues Execution Project Integration
