» Intent Provide a common format and data requirements Allow AM suppliers to report their data in a common format to aid with procuring activity requests for materials and services. Allow design authorities and other industry organizations to gather supporting data to select AM and incorporate AM into designs and products. Allow Government Agencies and Laboratories to support AM adoption with a standard means to publish performance data. Allow common data reporting to establish qualification plans, material specifications, process specifications, and exchange of data with some traceability to how the data was first generated. 2

» Element Requirements Minimum data element requirements for reporting of material and 100 process data for the purpose of:! Standardizing test specimen descriptions and test reports.! Assisting designers by standardizing AM materials databases.! Aiding material traceability through testing and evaluation.! Capturing property-parameter-performance relationships of AM specimens to enable predictive modeling and other computational approaches. 3

» Materials and Process Reporting Requirements All standard material specifications used. Information from these specifications should include, as a minimum: + Description and preparation of feedstock materials prior to AM operations. + Procedure for using or re-using feedstock material. + A description of any non-standard materials used and/or deviations from materials standards used. + All standard process specifications used, as a minimum: All processes used to produce the specimen from feedstock material. Placement and orientation of the test specimen in the build chamber. A description of all non-standard processes used and/or deviations from process standards used. 4

» Test and Inspection Reporting Requirements All standard test and inspection methods used. The shape and dimensions of the test specimens, with tolerances specified. The test plan. Test procedures. Non-destructive inspection procedures and results. A description of all non-standard test methods used and/or deviations from standard test methods used. Post Processing Reporting Requirements 5

» Explanation: This example is included to illustrate the way this standard may be implemented. The cover of the referenced material and process specifications are shown asan example of how these specifications may be separate documents.» Report of Testing Tension Properties of FDM» Prepared in Accordance with ASTM F42 WK30107» Material 79M SPECIFICATION PLASTIC FILAMENT, RAPID PROTOTYPE,» FUSED DEPOSITION MATERIAL» Process 79P PROCESS SPECIFICATION FOR FUSED DEPOSITION MODELING» Testing Performed ASTM D638 Tensile. All values are measured after at least 48 hours storage at 23 C/50% relative humidity. All properties are measured on injection molded samples. All samples are prepared and tested in accordance with ASTM and ISO standards.» Tensile properties. The typical tensile specimens for baseline properties shall be fabricated from the FDM filament in accordance with ASTM D638 and tested in accordance with of 79P to meet the minimum requirements shown in Table I. See Figure 1 for a description of the orientations and configurations. ASTM F2921 contains information on standard additive manufacturing terminology and can be used for reference.
