2 SPECIFICATIONS PORTER No PORTABLE BASKETBALL BACKSTOP SYSTEM (FOR INDOOR OR OUTDOOR USE) WITH FAN FIBERGLASS BACKBOARD Unit is designed for use in elementary schools, training camps, YMCA, park district programs, and 3-on-3 type basketball tournaments. Goal height is easily adjustable at 8'-0" (2.43m), 9'-0" (2.74m) or official 10'-0" (3.05m) goal height setting without the use of any tools. Entire unit shall fold into an overall space of 10-1/2" (26.7cm) x 3'-8" (1.12m) x 9'-6" (2.90m) (with goal removed) for compact storage. The base unit shall be of a low profile, welded, unitized design, fabricated from 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" (3.8cm x 6.4cm) heavy-wall rectangular tubing for maximum rigidity. Base unit shall be equipped with heavy welded steel hinges to accept front mast support and rear diagonal folding brace assemblies. Rear of base unit shall be furnished with spreaders for ballast, or use with an optional floor tie-down system for indoor use. Base shall be furnished with four (4) non-marking, gray rubber feet to protect gymnasium or multi-purpose room floors. Front mast support shall also be fabricated from 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" (3.8cm x 6.4cm) heavy-wall rectangular tubing, and welded into a unitized unit for maximum rigidity. Both sides of front mast support shall be furnished with formed steel handles to facilitate folding of unit. Upper end of front mast support shall be furnished with two (2) 3" diameter casters for ease of transport when the unit is in the folded position. Front mast assembly is pre-drilled for use with optional front safety padding. Rear folding brace assembly is fabricated from heavy-wall, 1-1/2" (3.8cm) square tubing with integral hinge assemblies to lock unit in the vertical position and to lower unit to the horizontal position for transport and storage. Hinge assemblies shall be furnished complete with locking type through pins and padlocks to prevent any form of usage by unauthorized individuals. Backboard extension assembly shall consist of four (4) 1-1/2" (3.8cm) square heavy-wall steel tubes which are hinged at the upper ends of the front mast support assembly to provide height adjustment and compact folding of unit. Extension assembly shall be furnished with two (2) diagonal tube sections to secure backboard at the desired height for maximum stability. Entire unit finished in a durable black powder-coated finish for indoor or outdoor use. Molded fiberglass backboard shall be of official size (54" x 39" x 1-1/2") (137.2cm x 99.1cm x 3.8cm) and shape with official orange target area and perimeter markings. Goal shall be official, finished in a durable orange enamel, furnished complete with a high quality white nylon net and plated mounting hardware. Minimum ballast (not furnished) for unit to be 250 pounds (114kg). Recommend using Porter No Vinyl Utility Bag Set of 7 for use as ballast (each bag holds 40 lbs. of stone or sand (not included)) on base of portable. May also use a standard 32-gallon Rubbermaid Roughneck water-filled trash can or equal amount of weight in sandbags or concrete blocks. Front safety pad shall be furnished in two sections. Complete pad shall be 2'-0" (61.0cm) in width at the top, 4'-0" (121.9cm) in width at the bottom, and 5'-8" (172.7cm) in height. Each section shall include an integral plywood backing for attaching to front mast support. Panel shall be constructed with 2" (5.1cm) thick bonded foam filler (6 lb. density) covered with a flame retardant, UV resistant, red vinyl coated polyester fabric. Padding is secured to backstop front support frame by means of eight (8) #10 x 3-1/2" lg. wood screws. See Page No. B for details on front safety pad. Backboard shall be 48" x 36" (122cm x 91.4cm) in size, fabricated from 3/8" (95mm) acrylic with weather resistant aluminum perimeter frame to maximize rigidity. Furnished with unitized steel reinforcing frame to provide direct mount goal feature. Goal mounting area shall be reinforced by vertical and horizontal support tubing to minimize undue loading on the acrylic section during slamdunks, etc. Entire unitized steel reinforcing frame shall be powder coated in a durable black, weather-resistant finish. Backboard silk-screened in official type, white perimeter and target area markings. See Page No. B for details on front safety pad. OPTIONAL ITEMS TO SPECIFY Porter No Vinyl Utility Bag Set of 7 for use as ballast (each bag holds 40 lbs. of stone or sand (not included)) on base of portable. See Page No. B for specifications on Porter No Backboard Padding, for use on No Portable Backstop. PORTER No FLOOR TIE-DOWN KIT Kit shall consist of two (2) handwheels with 1/2-13 threaded studs to extend through holes in the rear of the base and into optional floor anchors (specify type required) when unit is to be used on gymnasium or multi-purpose room floors without the use of ballast. PORTER No SET OF PLASTIC CAPS Set of plastic caps to close exposed ends of all open-end tubing on No. 535 portable backstop. (Meets TUV approval).
