1 BarrierGuard a new era in road safety 800 GROUP (02)

2 The BarrierGuard 800 a new generation of state-of-the-art design The BarrierGuard 800 heralds a new era in road safety technology. This new generation of road safety barrier - Australia s only TL4 rated Temporary Steel Barrier - offers state-of-the-art design features and levels of safety previously thought impossible. It is light weight and quick and easy to install, ensuring a highly-economical package in terms of transport and deployment. The BarrierGuard 800 can be used as a permanent installation, or for short-duration roadworks in distant locations, or where there are roadworks requiring frequent moves. Safety Features of the BarrierGuard 800 Crash Tested - At speeds from 50km/h to 110km/h At angles from 15 to 45 With vehicles from 900kg to 13,000kg High Containment Will contain a 13,000kg bus at 70km/h at 20 Will contain a 7,500kg truck at 50km/h at 45 Low Deflection 1,500kg Car, 20, 110km/h (EN N2) Approximately 1 metre deflection 13,000kg Bus, 20, 70km/h (EN H2) Approximately 2 metres deflection 2,000kg Vehicle, 25, 100km/h (NCHRP TL-3 and TL-4) Approximately 1.5 metres deflection International Accreditation USA certified to NCHRP TL1, TL2, TL3, & TL4 European certified to EN 1317 pts 1 & 2 - T1, T2, T3, N1, N2, H1 & H2 Convenience Easily Installed - Unique QuickMount connector design allows installation of up to 300 metres of barrier per hour. Versatile - Available in 6 and 12 metre section lengths with special angle sections for tight radii. A variety of terminations and transitions are available. Easily Accessed - Emergency access gate system available. Easily Replaced - Impact damaged barrier sections are quickly and easily replaced. Light Weight - Barrier only weighs 90kg/metre. The unique design of the QuickMount connector provides a substantial resistance to lateral impact forces, allowing a high strength / low weight construction. Low Cost Low Transport Cost - About 216 metres can be transported per load. Low Installation Cost - Fast installation or removal at up to 300m per hour results in very low costs. Other features The BarrierGuard 800 has been approved by all state governments. The BarrierGuard 800 offers high containment and low deflection levels. A 1500kg car impacting on a 20 angle, travelling at 110km/h has a deflection of just 1m and an exit angle of 4. The BarrierGuard 800 is designed to run the exact length of a work area. Unlike other steel barriers that require additional lengths to make the work area safe, this product needs no extra length to contain or redirect an errant vehicle. Up to 216 metres of the BarrierGuard 800 can be carried on a trailer unit and can be unloaded and installed on the road within an hour, using a trained team of three or four operatives. Installation time of the BarrierGuard 800 is significantly less compared to that of other barriers, due to its light weight, longer length units and easy quicklink connection system. The BarrierGuard 800 has a very low impact exit angle, unlike other barriers, resulting in exemplary post impact vehicle behaviour. The face of the BarrierGuard 800 is designed with a smooth profile and no posts, which negates pocketing. It also minimises the risk to motorcyclists and effects a smooth redirection. It can be used on all types of road surfaces and is designed to go around bends, where the radius is up to 20 metres. 2

3 Other features cont.. The BarrierGuard 800 offers cost savings, from fewer truck loads per job, less heavy lifting equipment, less staff, less traffic disruption, less lane closures and less traffic control or management. It has proven to have positive protection for temporary applications, at speeds of up to 110km/h. Its unique step profile catches the tyres of an errant vehicle, offering a significant reduction in bodywork damage and nuisance-glancing impacts. The profile is 98 degrees to the carriageway and does not incorporate any design features which would encourage climbing or rolling of smaller vehicles. Testing on the BarrierGuard 800 has proven that, following impacts, all components of the Barrier Guard 800 system remain fully intact with no breakage or separation of any part of the system. All bolts and anchors also remain in good order. These features offer greater safety to the end user and those operating within the work zone. Unlike concrete barriers, the BarrierGuard 800 does not chip, crack or have parts that might break off. The BarrierGuard 800 barrier is easily repaired, and is only damaged through careless handling. Testing the BarrierGuard 800 The BarrierGuard 800 offers extremely high containment levels. Impact collision tests have been carried out with the following results: The BarrierGuard 800 resisted and redirected a 13000kg bus at 70km/h, after a 20 degree impact, of only 8 degrees. Deflection of the barrier was only approximately 2.0 metres. A 7500kg truck travelling at 50km/h, impacting on a 45 degree angle, was redirected, came to a halt against the Barrier, and was only deflected just over 2.0 metres. A 1500kg car impacting at 20 degrees and travelling at 110km/h had a deflection of just 1 metre and an exit angle of only 4 degrees. A 2000kg vehicle colliding at a 25 degree angle close to the far end anchor (of a tested run), was safely re directed in spite of running into a progressively inflexible part of barrier (i.e. the anchored section). 6 Assembly The BarrierGuard 800 is anchored at each end of the run. Torsional rigidity and self weight keeps it in place together with the anchors producing low deflection. The 12 metre barrier is built as two 6 metre pieces bolted together in the middle with a male and female quicklink at either end. A 6 metre version is also available comprising two 3 metres pieces bolted together. In runs in excess of 500 metres an additional interim anchor should be used. Intermediate anchors (dog bones) can be placed at 250 metre intervals. The BarrierGuard 800 uses the quicklink connection system, a feature unique to this product. The barrier quicklinks provide a highly rigid and enormously strong linking system at the top and bottom of every barrier link. Coupled with the rigid anchoring, the quicklinks make the barrier highly impact and deflection resistant whilst providing just the right amount of flexibility in the steel body of the barrier to provide necessary energy absorption for the impacting motorist. For achieving emergency access or opening of the barrier, a designed system of part of the barrier can act as a gate with the barrier being swung open or entirely removed on castor wheels. QuickLink QuickLink 6

7 Easy to assemble These opening points can vary from 6 to 60 metres according to customer requirements. Anchoring can occur with either 450mm driven pins, chemical anchored bolts, mechanical expanding anchor bolts or large diameter long plug in poor foundations. An access window in the face of every section of the barrier allows unbolting to be done on site, for the removal of individual barriers or part barriers, in the event of an impact where you have long installed lengths. A full height termination barrier is available, which has a built-in end plate at its base for anchoring to the road, as well as provision to link with an inner anchor shoe assembly anchored to the road at the intermediate (bolted) midway point of the end terminal section. This arrangement provides the unique double anchoring system which is the foundation of the strength of the barrier. The barriers can stack together in a variety of configurations for transport which, depending on permitted load widths and height restrictions, can allow loads up to 18 barriers or 216 metres in length. The barriers can also be inverted. The barriers are easily and safely deployed using a crane attached to the truck. Alternatively, any crane can be used to unload on site and either cranes or forklift trucks can be used on site. Access Window 7
