1 St. Monica Food Pantry SECTION HOLLOW METAL DOORS AND FRAMES PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 SUBMITTALS: A. Shop drawings: Indicate door and frame elevations and sections, materials, gauges and finishes, glazing, fabrication and erection details, openings, location of finish hardware by dimension and locations and fire rating requirements. B. Product data: Indicate that hollow metal work complies with specified requirements, including performance criteria. C. Templates: Hollow metal fabricator shall request and secure finish hardware templates for scheduled hardware items. D. LEED submittals: In compliance with Section , Section , and as specified herein. 1. Product data for Credit MR 4.1: For products having recycled content, documentation indicating percentages by weight of postconsumer and preconsumer recycled content. Include statement indicating cost for each product having recycled content. 2. Product data for Credit MR 5.1: Product certificates for Credit MR 5.1: For products and materials required to comply with requirements for regional materials, certificates indicating location of material manufacturer and point of extraction, harvest, or recovery for each raw material. Include statement indicating distance to Project, cost for each regional material, and fraction by weight that is considered regional. 3. Product data for Credit IEQ IEQ 4.2: For paints and coatings used on the interior of the building indicating chemical composition and VOC content of each product used. Indicate VOC content in g/l. 1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE: A. Applicable standards; standards of the following, as referenced herein: 1. American National Standards Institute, Inc. (ANSI). 2. ASTM International (ASTM). 3. Steel Door Institute (SDI). 4. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Fire Codes. 5. Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL). B. Fire door assemblies: Openings scheduled to receive a fire rating shall be a rated door/ frame/hardware assembly meeting all requirements of the applicable rating agency. Doors and frames shall exhibit the required rating labels of Underwriter's Laboratories, Warnock-Hersey, or Factory Mutual as determined by the applicable code authority for the project. C. Labeling requirements: 1. Fire-rated components shall bear factory-applied labels showing name of manufacturer, name of third-party inspection agency, fire-protection rating, and where required for doors in exit enclosures, maximum transmitted temperature end point. 2. Permanently attach label to hinge stile of each fire-rated and smoke and draft control door.

Physical endurance: Comply with performance level for specified level classification in accord with ANSI A and ANSI A for doors and hardware reinforcing, ANSI A for doors, frames, frame anchors and hardware reinforcing. 2. Finish: Comply with standard performance criteria of ANSI A for primed steel surfaces. 3. Thermal performance: Minimum aged value of U = 0.10 = 10.2) or better, apparent thermal performance in accord with SDI Acoustical performance: STC of 25 or better in accord with SDI-128, ASTM E90-04 and ASTM E DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING: A. Deliver hollow metal work cartoned for protection. Mark each hollow metal door and frame at top hinge and on outside of carton with destination door mark indicated on door schedule. B. Inspect work upon delivery for damage. Reject damaged items. C. Store materials under cover, on raised platforms. 1. Stack a maximum of five assembled frame units and doors vertically with minimum 1/4" spacers between units. 2. Protect from moisture but provide for cross ventilation. Remove units from wet containers if wetting occurs. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 DOORS AND FRAMES: A. Regional materials: Doors and frames shall be manufactured within 500 miles of project site from materials that have been extracted, harvested, or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of Project site. B. Acceptable manufacturers include, but are not necessarily limited to following, subject to compliance with specified requirements: 1. CECO Door Products. 2. Curries, Assa Abloy Door Securities. 3. Door Pro Systems. 4. Republic Doors and Frames. 5. Steelcraft, Ingersoll Rand Securities Technology. C. Fabrication standard: Except for more stringent requirements specified, comply with ANSI/SDI-100, including performance levels as referenced. D. Steel: 1. Interior Doors; Cold-Rolled Steel Sheets: Commercial quality (CS) carbon steel, complying with ASTM A , Type B, minimum 18 gauge face sheets for interior doors. 2. Exterior Doors; Galvanized Steel Sheets: ASTM A653-07, Commercial Steel (CS), Type B, with an A90 zinc-iron-alloy (galvannealed) coating; stretcher- leveled standard of flatness; minimum 16 gauge face sheets for exterior doors. 3. Frames: ASTM A , commercial quality cold-rolled steel; 16 gauge for interior and 14 gauge for exterior frame locations and frames for acoustical doors.

Finish: Prime painted steel surfaces shall comply with requirements for acceptance stated in ANSI A Interior doors and frames: One coat of manufacturer's standard rustinhibitive primer. 2. Exterior doors and frames: One coat of manufacturer's standard rustinhibitive primer after chemical treatment of galvanized surfaces for paint adhesion. F. Door classification: 1. Standard hollow metal doors: Level II, 18 ga., Heavy Duty, Model Two seamless, 1-3/4" thickness. 2. Label fire-resistive composite metal doors: a. Level II, 16 ga., Heavy Duty, Model Two seamless, 1-3/4" thickness, with mineral fiberboard core for all ratings over 20 minutes. 3. Exterior insulated composite metal doors: Level III, 16 ga., Extra Heavy Duty, Model Two seamless, 1-3/4" thickness, with polyurethane core. G. Door characteristics: 1. Edge bevel: Vertical edges beveled 1/8" in 2"; double-acting doors rounded on 2-1/8" radius. Non-handed door blanks with filler plates are not acceptable. 2. Top and bottom edges: Flush, welded, minimum 18 ga. steel. Provide weep holes in bottom edge of exterior doors. 3. Join door edges by projection welding no more than 6" on center extending the full height of door. Vertical seam shall be visible at both edges of door. Fill and finish vertical seam smooth. 4. Astragals: Mortised, 12 ga. material. Fire-rated B and "C" labeled doors shall be of type not requiring astragals to obtain rating. 5. Glazing stops: At glazed doors, provide, welded stops on security side of door and 20 gauge loose channel stops at opposite side. Prepunch stops and provide countersunk stainless steel flathead sheet metal screws. Glazing gap (between fixed and loose stop) shall be glazing thickness plus 1/4" for 1/8" glazing tape each side. H. Frame construction: 1. Welded steel frames: 14 ga. for exterior doors and all interior frames exceeding 48" between vertical mullions, 16 ga. for all interior frames supported at 48" and under; with backbend returns, setup arc welded, with all joints, including face, flange and throat, full welded, dressed and ground smooth; no mechanical interlocking allowed. Provide welded frames with temporary spreaders during shipping, storage and erection. 2. Machine door frames for hardware scheduled for installation on that frame. Filler plates installed at unused openings will not be acceptable. 3. Joints: a. Dress welded joints and ground smooth, indistinguishable in completed work. b. Make non-welded connections with tight fitting, closed joints. c. Make joints with aligned faces and arrises. I. Frame anchors: 1. Wall anchors for frame attachment to drywall partitions: Manufacturer's standard adjustable type for attachment to studs. Provide one anchor per jamb for each 2'-0" of height or fraction thereof. Anchors for firerated frames shall be labeled type.

4 St. Monica Food Pantry Floor anchors: Provide frames with minimum 18 ga. anchors for attachment to floor. For wall conditions that do not allow for the use of a floor anchor, provide an additional jamb anchor. Anchors for fire-rated frames shall be labeled type. 3. Head struts: For frames over 7'-0" high, provide 1/4" by 2" steel struts spot welded to jambs, each side, extending to building structure. Attach to structure. For frames over 4'-0" in width, provide center strut at head. J. Primers for treating inside of frames to be fully grouted in masonry and concrete construction: Field or factory applied as specified below: 1. Factory applied primer: a. Basis of design: Tnemec Series 66 Hi-Build Epoxoline sprayapplied at 4 to 6 mils dft. b. Glidden Professionals, Devran 224HS High Build Epoxy. c. PPG Aquapon High-Build Semi-Gloss Polyamide-Epoxy Coating Series. 2. Field applied bituminous coating: a. Cold-applied asphalt mastic, meeting SSPC-PS 9.01, compounded for 15-mil dry film thickness per coat. b. Provide inert-type non-corrosive compound free of asbestos fibers, sulfur components, and other deleterious impurities. K. Preparation for hardware and anchors: 1. Reinforcement: Factory reinforce door and frame components for hardware installation in accord with ANSI A and ANSI A Punch single leaf frames to receive three silencers; double leaf frames to receive two silencers per leaf, at head. 3. Provide grout shields where frames in masonry walls are cut or drilled. 4. Install hardware reinforcement and anchors without distortions or blemishes on exposed surfaces. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 FRAME INSTALLATION: A. General: 1. Install hollow metal frames in accord with ANSI A , ANSI A , SDI , manufacturer s product data and approved shop drawings. 2. Shimming of door hinges is not an acceptable correction of door frames installed out of erection tolerance. B. Welded frames: 1. Set welded frames in position prior to beginning partition work. Brace frames until permanent anchors are set. 2. Set anchors for frames as work progresses. Install anchors at hinge and strike levels. 3. Grout frames in masonry walls as specified in Concrete Unit Masonry section. 4. Remove temporary braces and spreaders after wall construction is complete. C. Fire-rated frames: Install in accord with requirements of NFPA No. 80 and ANSI A

5 St. Monica Food Pantry DOOR INSTALLATION: A. General: 1. Install doors in accord with SDI , ANSI A , manufacturer s product data and approved shop drawings. 2. Seal tops of exterior, out-swinging doors prior to painting. Paint bottoms of doors in accord with Painting and Coating section prior to hanging doors. 3. Install hollow metal doors in frames, using hardware specified in Door Hardware section. 4. Shimming of door hinges is not an acceptable repair of warped doors or door frames out of erection tolerances. B. Edge clearances at doors: 1. Between door and frame, at head and jambs: 1/8". 2. At meeting edges of pairs of doors and at mullions: 1/8" to 1/4" (1/8" for fire rated doors). 3. At sills without thresholds: 3/8" maximum above finish floor. 4. At sills with thresholds: 3/8" maximum above top of threshold. 5. Between face of door and door stop: 1/16". C. Allowable erection tolerances: 1. Variation from specified clearances: ±1/32". 2. Variation in face alignment, pairs of doors: ±1/16". 3. Variation in face alignment between door and frame: 1/8" maximum. D. Fire-rated doors: Install in accord with requirements of NFPA No. 80, SDI and ANSI A CLEANING AND PROTECTION: A. Protect hollow metal work from damage and staining until Date of Substantial Completion. Replace or repair damaged or stained components. B. Replace components which exhibit warp, buckle or broken welds. End of Section
