3 Project Description GUYOTS ISLAND BANK STABILIZATION PROJECT DESCRIPTION General: The general scope of work includes the repair of Guyots Island banks which were damaged during the 2014 floods. Three locations have been included with a total distance of approximately 160 lf. (See attached site location drawings) Work to includes stabilizing the existing areas and installation of geotextile felt and ballast rock along the banks to reduce further erosion. The reconstruction consists of the installation of geotextile felt and large stones along the base of the bank up towards the top. Smaller stone will be placed in conjunction with the large stones to construct the embankment. A Certificate of Liability Insurance listing the Village of Carthage as additionally insured is required. Work activities are as follows: Bridge Area and Cove Area This work will be completed concurrently. A. Preparation and Clean-up Activities: 1. Install protection on the bridge to reduce effects of equipment on the existing decking. 2. Remove benches and handrail as needed to allow access to the locations. Store removed items on site. Handrail posts to be cut as needed to allow removal and reinstallation. 3. Install ground protection as needed to protect the remaining handrails and bench anchors from being damaged. 4. Install turbidity curtains around areas to be repaired. Visually monitor turbidity levels upstream and downstream of the work area during the repair operations. (Note: the project will include operating machinery on the edge of the river, although no operation is anticipated in the river at this time.) 5. Upon completion, grade areas, install topsoil and seed the affected areas. 6. Reinstall handrail and benches. The handrail must be welded back into position at locations previously cut. Prepare, prime and paint the weld locations. 7. Remove turbidity curtains. 8. Clean up and disposal of debris. B. Stabilize Earth Embankment: 1. At the affected areas, place geotextile felt and then place a mixed gradation of rock from the bottom of the effected banks to the top. Pricing must include rock. 2. The project will include operating machinery on the edge of the river, although no operation is anticipated in the river at this time. 3. Clean up and disposal of debris 4. Permitting/ Notifications will be the responsibility of the contractors. Picnic Area The work includes cutting back the bank to a more stable slope/grade, reseeding and planting woody root vegetation along the river bank. (See attached conceptual drawing)
