4 TERMS AND CONDITIONS FREIGHT TERMS: The following freight terms will apply to all orders. MEARIN: For Fiberglass system components and accessories required to complete Fiberglass system installation, Full Motor Freight allowed on individual orders of $3, net or more. MEADRAIN AND MEAGARD: Polymer Concrete system components and accessories required to complete Polymer Concrete system installation will be FOB Michigan City, Indiana or your designated Service Center, as determined by MEA-JOSAM. PAYMENT TERMS: For accounts with established credit, payment terms are 2% cash discount, payable 30 days from date of invoice, net 31 days. Invoices still unpaid after 31 days from date of invoice will be subject to interest charges of 1-1/2% per month. Minimum invoice: $50.00 net Confirmed irrevocable letter of credit or cash in advance of shipment is required for accounts without an established line of credit. Any terms and conditions appearing on your orders which are inconsistent with our quotation and conditions of sale shall be of no effect. QUOTATION TERMS: Prices quoted are protected for 30 days from BID DUE DATE. If an order is received within this period, the material must be shipped within 90 days from date of order, otherwise prices will be those in effect at the time of shipment. ORDER ACCEPTANCE: All catalogs, price lists, literature and other material describing our products are not to be construed as offers to sell same. All orders are subject to acceptance at our office in Michigan City, Indiana or your designated Service Center. Your order, when shipped by us, shall be the complete contract between us, subject to and incorporating therein the terms and conditions herein contained, and any inconsistent provisions contained in your order shall not apply. Prices contained in any of our catalogs, price lists or other literature are subject to change without notice. CANCELLATION: Orders are not subject to cancellation without our written consent. If an order is canceled, the Buyer shall pay costs incurred with filling the order. Any charges incurred because of cancellation or change of special material made on order must be paid for by the Buyer. Any items not cataloged by us and made on special order remain the property of the Buyer and must be paid for. GUARANTEE: All MEA-JOSAM products are guaranteed against defective materials and workmanship or errors in shipping, and any material or part proving defective will be replaced free of charge provided that MEA-JOSAM is notified within a reasonable time for inspection after delivery, and the equipment, material, or part claimed to be defective has been properly maintained and used in accordance with instructions and is delivered prepaid to Seller at Michigan, City, Indiana. Under no circumstances will MEA-JOSAM assume any liability for damages or labor charges resulting therefrom. EXPRESS LIMITED WARRANTY: All recommendations on the use of MEA-JOSAM products are made without any warranties or guarantees. The products described in our literature are sold with an Express Limited Warranty which is in lieu of all other express or implied warranties. It is the responsibility of the customers of MEA-JOSAM to ensure that each particular product is fit for its intended purpose and that the conditions in which it will be used are suitable. Any products supplied by MEA-JOSAM will be done solely upon the standard Conditions of Sale, incorporated into all contracts. MEA-JOSAM develops and improves its products on a regular basis and information provided in this document is subject to change without prior notification. DELAYS: MEA-JOSAM will not assume any liability for delays or defaults occasioned by strikes, fires, or exercised by governmental authorities, failure to obtain material, or by any cause unavoidable beyond its control. RETURNED GOODS: Material may be returned subject to the following conditions. 1. Must first be referred to your local MEA-JOSAM Representative for prompt handling; 2. Minimum value of $ net; 3. Replacement parts will not be accepted for return; 4. Buyer must identify original shipment of material by invoice number and invoice date; 5. Buyer must obtain prior written authorization; 6. 25% restocking charge; 7. Less any charges necessary to put the material into saleable condition; 8. Credit will be issued to apply only against future purchases; 9. Outgoing freight will be deducted from the credit; 10. Material must be returned freight prepaid; 11. 6 How to Choose a Trench Drain MEA-Josam provides a rapid, reliable and cost effective way of draining all types of surfaces, taking into account variables such as surface type, average rainfall and local incline. SURFACE DRAINAGE The standard methods of surface drainage are Point Drainage or Linear Drainage: Point Drainage Linear Drainage Unlike Point Drainage, which requires multiple outlets with below surface connecting piping and individual contouring of the concrete surface, Linear Drainage offers the following benefits: Centrally located drainage Surface water interception over it s entire length Shallow installation depth requires less time and materials Water draining below surface is easily accessed through top gratings Simplified grading of surface No buried pipe Fall Options Constant Depth Used wherever fall is not required or the natural incline suffices. A choice of different channels heights and nominal widths ranging from 5" to 6" is available. Stepped Fall Channel runs with a stepped fall provide for cost-effective, free flowing and even discharge. vi

8 Options Polymer Concrete Polymer concrete is resistant to abrasive and aggressive materials and is unaffected by the freezethaw cycle of de-icing salts. The smooth, rounded internal base of the channel facilitates high flow rates and creates an optimal self cleaning action reducing maintenance work and keeps expenses to a minimum. Polymer concrete is recyclable and can be partially reused in the manufacturing process. The smooth internal surface promotes efficient water flow and creates a self-cleaning action to reduce maintenance expenses. The lighter material allows prefabrication of multi-channel runs that can be handled easily. Fiberglass Properties Compression Strength Approx. 24,400 PSI Flexural Strength Approx. 9,900 PSI Water Absorption 0.3% Heat Resistance 300 F Hydraulic Calculations Several factors are important if accurate calculations are to be made: the size and surface features of the site to be drained, along with the average amount of water to be deposited in this area. The length and fall of the line as well as the geometric shape of the individual channel units are taken into account in these calculations. By taking all of the above factors into consideration, the type and length of the required channel line and the number of collection points needed in practice can then be specified in the form of tables and diagrams. Steps to calculate the site s hydraulic requirements: 1. Multiply the catchment length by the catchment width to give the surface area to be drained by the channels 2. Multiply the catchment area by the chosen rainfall intensity (3.1" per hour being the most commonly used). The calculated figure is the litres per hour that the channel must cope with 3. Divide by 3600 to calculate the site requirements in litres per second 4. Divide by the channel length (in meters) to give the flow rate (litres per second per meter) 5. Cross-reference flow rate with MEA s hydraulic data to determine channel required 6. 25 Frequently asked questions 1. Do I need to seal the channel joints? Since most surface drainage products are installed on the ground level, the small amount of water that weeps through the channel joints doesn t pose a problem. For containment areas and installations where a sealed drainage system is required, all Meadrain polymer concrete channels have a built- in recess (sealable rebate) which provides the proper space for silicone or polyurethane sealant to perform their designed function. 2. Do I need to have grates installed in channels during concrete pour? Depending on the amount being poured, the surrounding concrete can compress the width of the channel section. Either Meadrain grates, wrapped or taped, or wooden boards cut to the width of the grates should be inserted into the channel to prevent such compression. 3. How do I clean the inside of the channel? Even though all Meadrain channels are produced with a smooth interior to promote water flow, long periods without water can allow debris to settle inside the channel. Trench shovels are available at construction supply outlets, but they tend to damage the channel interior. The best method to clean the channel is with water. 4. How many sections are needed for a 20 foot trench drain? Simply multiply the length of the trench drain times to determine the number of sections required. (20 x.3048 = 6.09 sections) 6 sections = 19.7 feet. 5. Do I need lock devices? Lock devices ensure the grates remain in place regardless of the direction of the traffic flow. Meadrain Clip-Fix and Profix grates contain an integral locking device. Remove the grates for unobstructed access to the channel interior; no lock bars to remove. 6. Do I need to store the channels inside? Meadrain channel sections have an extremely low water absorption rate and are unaffected by UV rays or temperature changes. There is no restriction to their storage location. 7. Do I need an expansion joint? When draining large surface areas, it s recommended a linear expansion joint is installed. This joint must be located a minimum 4 from channel edge to meet Class C load ratings. 8. Do I have to use sloped channels? With smooth interior and radiused bottom, Meadrain channels effectively drain surface water regardless of slope. For areas or interior installations with infrequent water, slope provides momentum to assist the water drainage to the outlet. 17

27 Installation 1. Excavate a trench with a sufficient width; ensure at least 3 inches (class A15) of bedding concrete can be placed under and alongside the channel. For higher loadings see the chart below. The carrying capacity of the subsoil must also be taken into account, or respectively, the carrying capacity of the trench floor must be established. 1. The arrows point in the direction of the outlet The number visible on the channel body shows the position of the channel within the drainage line, e.g. channel number Lay out channel elements in the planned sequence alongside the excavated trench (as per installation plan, if available). Begin with outlet channel. Assemble channel bracket if available Remove preformed knockouts from the channel or silt box for the discharge outlet. Knockouts must be removed with the aid of suitable tools (e.g. rough-drill the predetermined breaking point, then remove the knockout using a flat chisel) Stretch a stringline, pour concrete into the trench and place channels in the concrete, starting at the discharge point (ie. silt box). Embed silt boxes and gullies similar to the installation of channels (thickness of concrete surround). When laying channels, ensure that directional arrows point towards the outlet. Fit the respective end caps at the start and end of the channel line. Connect the discharge point to the sewer system Brace channel elements to counteract lateral compression utilizing installation brackets or insert gratings in the channel groove. Protect the gratings from any concrete spillage. 8. Ensure the concrete surround is equal on both sides of channels. Where installation takes place in concrete slabs, provide for expansion/contraction joints and do not let the drainage line interrupt existing expansion/contraction joints Lay the ground surface which directly adjoins the channel side to be at minimum, 1/8" higher than the upper channel surface Clean any spilled concrete from gratings, channels, and outlet points, insert and secure gratings to channel body using the grating locking system. 19
