Specifying the Product 1. Product description and suitable applications Valéron Vortec EVD is the premier wa- ter-resistive resistive barrier that incorporates a patent-pending pending pattern of multi-directional channels to promote drainage, reducing the chance of mold, mildew and structural damage. Developed and manufactured by Insulation Wholesalers international partner Valéron Strength Films, a world wide leader in the high strength specialty film and moisture management systems with over 35 years experience in the industry. Valéron Vortec EVD (Engineer Vented Drain) is a crush resistant, weather resistive barrier designed to drain moisture away from the wall cavity in homes and commercial 2. Benefits Valéron Vortec EVD drainage system offers a number of benefits including: Cavity free installation as opposed to traditional building wraps that require cavity construction. Can be used behind a range of claddings including masonry, siding materials, weatherboards, stucco, EIFS, curtain wall and cementitious cladding systems. Its engineered 3 dimensional dimple texture provides a crush resistant airspace between the framing and cladding. Engineered 3-dimensional surface prevents waterponding and facilitates moisture drainage away from the wall cavity. Its multidirectional pattern promotes drainage but Valeron Vortec Drainage System buildings. An engineered surface pattern of raised, microperforated dimples creates a crush resistant airspace between framing and cladding, allowing moisture to drain away from the wall cavity rather than pond behind the building façade. Valéron Vortec EVD allows necessary moisture vapor migration while helping to protect against energy robbing air infiltration and the formation of mold and mildew that can lead to frame rot and poor indoor air quality. Valéron Vortec EVD is designed to drain and is intended for use behind a range of cladding systems including stucco, EIFS, masonry, cementitious cladding and weatherboard. Composition and materials; Valéron Vortec EVD is an engineered vertical rain sheet offering superior outdoor durability and strength. It is manufactured of 100% UV enhanced, cross laminated high also permits vertical, horizontal and diagonal installation without altering drainage properties. Lightweight and translucent rolls offer easy installation promotes ease of locating studs, openings etc. Tear, snag and puncture resistant Semi-permeable to allow proper vapor migration Ultraviolet resistance for up 6 months. Helps maintain the moisture level needed for better curing of stucco, improving the curing process resulting in stronger stucco. Can be used on both steel and wood framing Warmer, dryer homes Roll sizes Available in standard widths of 1.52m x 61. One role provides 93m² coverage. 3. Limitations Valéron Vortec EVD is intended for exterior wall applications and is not for use in applications in which temperatures will exceed 93 degrees Celsius or as an alternative to asphalt-saturated organic felt underlayment in roofing applications. Valéron Vortec EVD is not intended to perform the function of an exterior siding product and should be covered as soon as possible. 4

4. How it works Valéron Vortec EVD Drainage system presents a innovative solution to a common building element, the building wrap. Traditional building wrap provides a water resistant barrier underneath the cladding but in order for it to drain water away safely a cavity needs to be constructed. This is not the case with Valéron Vortec EVD, as its specially engineered,3 dimensional surface creates a airspace between the framing and cladding allowing moisture to drain therefore eliminating the need for cavity battens. 6 Preparation and installation 1. Installation guide S1 Vertical joint min. over lap Horizontal joint min. overlap Approved Tape for joints Valéron Vortec EVD fixed to stud and top plate at 400 centre's *ACIS Approved tape can be used over both vertical and horizontal joints. This is optional but allows for maximum performance Valéron Vortec EVD can be fastened to either timber or steel framing by way of staples or clouts. 1. Preparation of timber/ steel framing Erect timber/ steel framing and prepare for barrier 2. Unwrapping Start from the lower corner 50mm below the bottom plate and unroll Vortec EVD in either direction, print side out. Wrap Vortec EVD around corner and continue rolling, fastening it while moving around the structure. 3. Secure Secure Vortec EVD firmly in place by fastening it every (600mm) along the horizontal header, sill plate and vertical studs. Place extra fasteners around each opening to be cut. Install Vortec EVD with the higher piece lapped over the outside of the lower piece with a minimum overlap of 150mm.At roof sections, lap the multidirectional drainage barrier over the entire top of any step flashed areas against the wall. D1: Vertical overlap D2: Horizontal overlap Min. overlap 150mm Min. overlap 150mm 6

S2 Identify windows and staple/ fasten accordingly around the edge ( approx. every 150mm)This is made easier by Vortec EVD translucent properties Cut from corner inwards 4. Cuts/Openings Place fasteners round windows or any other openings. Make an X cut in the wrap at the windows rough opening and remove the middle section. 5. Openings Fold the 4 flaps in through the opening, fastening them inside with staples set approximately every 150mm. S3 Cut and fold flaps back 7

S4 Vortec EVD folded round and secured using staples/clouts at approx. 150mm centre's. Prepare for taping 6. Flexible Flashings Valéron Strength films recommends the use of flashing materials. Install the bottom flashing over the wrap. Press firmly down to achieve adhesion. Also apply tape to the top corners, pressing firmly once more. Once completed adhere approved window tape over each corner at a 45 degree angle to achieve water-tightness. S5 Tape also adhered to the top corners of the opening. Approved tape is cut and adhered to Wrap along the window sill, with the vertical component at least 200mm high. Pieces of tape are then adhered over these corner flashings at approx. 45 degrees * Note: Only approved tape to used with the Valéron Vortec EVD system due to its unique properties. 8

S6 Window install, prepare with packer placement. Windows must be installed in accordance with window manufacturer s recommended requirements. Window tape 7. Install window Prepare for window placement, place packers accordingly and install window. Windows must be installed in accordance with manufacturer s recommended installation procedures. Once window is installed correctly use approved tape and seal up the head flashing by running the tape over it and adhering it back to the Vortec EVD surface. PRESS FIRMLY TO ENSURE A TIGHT SEAL.. S7 Window head flashing S7.1 Flashing detail Tape is installed over the top of the window flashing and adhered back to the Vortec EVD drainage barrier 9

7.1 Door installation Around exterior doors, follow the same flashing procedures as indicated in steps 2 to 7 for windows. Important points 8.0 Penetrations There are many different types of penetrations including dryer vents, bathroom exhaust fans, pipes, electrical outlets, external lights etc. - To seal Valéron Vortec EVD Drainage barrier around all electrical, plumbing penetrations etc use approved tape. S1 Cut a star pattern, appropriate to size of penetration using a craft knife. S2 Allow the penetration (in this case a pipe) to penetrate. Then push wrap back round the penetration. S3 Using the butterfly taping technique, use approved tape, seal up the bottom like so ensuring a firm seal around the pipe and the Valéron Vortec EVD. S4 Then place another piece of tape over the top to create a positive seal around the pipe penetration. Ensure a tight seal around the pipe. PRESS FIRMLY. 9.0 Other important details At roof sections, be careful to lap the building over the entire top of any step flashed areas against the wall. All horizontal overlaps should be not less than 150mm and vertical overlaps should be not less than 150mm. Seams/joints between overlapping layers should be taped or sealed for maximum performance, however this is optional and stapling the layers over one another will suffice. Valéron Vortec EVD can be slippery. Use caution when walking or standing on Care should be taken when fixing in windy conditions, due to the large sail area created by the wide roll width 10
