Property evaluated: Structural 2.0 USES screws are used to fasten gypsum board to either wood or cold-formed steel framing members, and to connect metal plaster bases (lath) to wood or steel framing members. ESR-3483 Reissued September 2017 Revised October 2017 This report is subject to renewal September A Subsidiary of the International Code Council 3.0 DESCRIPTION 3.1 General: screws are manufactured from carbon steel wire conforming to the specifications in the manufacturer s quality documentation. The screws have a Phillips Bugle Head or a Phillips Modified Truss Head. The screws have an electroplated clear zinc coating. Tables 1 and 2 provide descriptions and Figures 1 and 2 provide illustrations of the self-piercing and self-drilling screws, respectively. The screws fully threaded unless noted otherwise. 3.2 Suzhou Hongly Self-piercing Tapping Screws: Type S: The self-piercing tapping screws with a Phillips bugle head style and fine threads are Type S screws complying with ASTM C1002 for attaching gypsum board to steel framing members Type W: The self-piercing tapping screws with a Phillips bugle head style and coarse threads are Type W screws complying with ASTM C1002 for attaching gypsum board to wood framing members Type A: The self-piercing tapping screws with a Phillips modified truss head style and fine threads are Type A screws complying with ASTM C1002 for attaching metal plaster bases to wood or steel framing members. 3.3 Suzhou Hongly Self-drilling Tapping Screws: Bugle Head Style: The self-drilling tapping screws with bugle head style and fine threads comply with ASTM C954 for attaching gypsum board to steel framing members Modified Truss Head Style: The self-drilling tapping screws with modified truss head style and fine threads comply with ASTM C954 and are used to attach metal plaster bases to steel framing members. 4.0 DESIGN AND INSTALLATION 4.1 Design: General: Screw length must be selected on the basis of thickness of the fastened material, based on the length of load bearing area (Figure 3) given in Tables 1 and 2, as applicable. When tested for corrosion resistance in accordance with ASTM B117, the screws show no white corrosion after three (3) hours and no red rust after twelve (12) hours Prescriptive Design: The Type S screws described in Section are recognized for use in fastening gypsum board to cold-formed steel framing members less than inch (0.84 mm) thick in accordance IBC Section ICC-ES Evaluation Reports are not to be construed as representing aesthetics or any other attributes not specifically addressed, nor are they to be construed as an endorsement of the subject of the report or a recommendation for its use.
