The waterproofing protection is of fundamental importance to guarantee a long durability of the waterproof membranes, especially for those artifacts where eventual repairs would be too expensive if not even impossible (green roofs, retaining walls, foundations, parking areas, etc.). The protection techniques are so important to request a true and proper design to integrate the waterproofing one. VALLI ZABBAN, to solve those issues, has designed a line of resilient elastic mats particularly recommended to protect the system from dynamic and static punching in order to assist it to bear even severe stresses to which it could be subject during use.

1. RUBBERVAL HIGH DENSITY ELASTIC RESILIENT MAT MADE OF PRESSED AND VULCANISED GRANULAR RUBBER Ecological mat to protect both synthetic and bituminous waterproof membranes from damages caused by blunt objects, landfills or any concrete casting. RUBBERVAL drastically reduces the risks of membranes perforation, both during the phase of completion of the roofing and afterwards when the work is completed, ensuring its durability. RUBBERVAL is a 750/950 kg/m 3 density mat made up of natural and synthetic elastomeric compounds, coming from the recycling of E.L.T. ( end of life tyres), bound by mass-polymerized polyurethanes. The application is quick and simple, as specified in the various indicated uses. The material must not be left exposed to UV rays for a long period of time if not treated with the proper protective paint. ADVANTAGES Excellent mechanical protection of waterproofing membranes. Easy to install. Immediately walkable after instalment. Excellent mechanical resistance to blunt objects impact. Very high dimensional stability in presence of permanent loads (walkabl e roofs and driveways, green roofs, foundation castings). Strong resistance to abrasions and tearing. Rot-proof, resistant to mould and dampness. Eco-friendly because made of recycled rubber. Low-cost thanks to its extreme application easiness. 7 2. GREEN ROOFINGS The choice to destine roofing as green roof is related to the perspective of regaining usable areas and to improve the housing qualities of residential building complex, serving as green space. This purpose can fulfil some fundamental tasks, from the city planning point of view, since these areas can be used as both public and private gathering areas, therefore the choice can be mostly connected to: Usability of the roof linked to activities to be carried out in open space. Visual usability for an architectural plus that contributes also to an environmental counterbalance. Variations and improvement of the environmental contest conditions since green roofs lead to a water regulation of rainfalls and, most important fact, actively contributes to the dust reduction. Variations and improvement of environmental performance conditions of buildings internal areas, mainly from the thermal and acoustic point of view. 1. Intensive trafficable green roof 2. Intensive passable green roof 3. Intensive green roof 4. Light intensive green roof 5. Intensive walkable green roof 6. Extensive green roof 7. Sloped extensive green roof Given the very high value, both technical-architectonic and economic of these roofs, it appears absolutely necessary to consider suitable protections of the waterproofing subject to considerable mechanical strains both from dynamic punching during the carrying out of the green roof, and static punching when in use. RUBBERVAL protection mat carries out these purposes in the best way thanks to its elasticity and resilience.

3. PARKING AREAS The design of the building modern structures, both commercial and residential, must necessarily take into account, in addition to the specified technical issues of the work, of other various and important factors such as the very high costs of the buildings areas and the necessity of parking spaces. A better management of the available space became therefore a necessity so that the destination of the building s roof to parking areas is a widely tested solution and which the best designers turn more frequently to. The waterproof roofing, necessary to protect the integrity of these artifacts, considering the important and numerous physical mechanical stresses to which the structure is exposed (compression, cut, traction) requires an accurate and correct planning which will have to take into account, in addition to a correct installation, also the use of waterproof bituminous membranes (and in case of isolated roofing also of insulation) with a good performance. VALLI ZABBAN has designed a line of membranes especially recommended to solve the waterproofing problems of all those artifacts which, as well as to protect these works from the previously mentioned situations, are also able to bear the heavy stress which they undergo during use. Given the very high value both technical and economical of these roofing it appears absolutely necessary to plan suitable waterproofing protections which in these artifacts go under considerable mechanical stress. The RUBBERVAL protection mat carries out these functions at the very best thanks to its elasticity and resilience. 2. Sloping layer 3. Vapor barrier 4. Thermal insulation 5. Membrane first layer 6. Vertical overlap vapor barrier Application RUBBERVAL is simply dry-laid over the waterproof membranes taking care to overlap the side edges and the tops for a length of about 5-8 cm, the laying of the stratigraphy subsequent elements ensures the anchoring.

4. INVERTED ROOF In the building field, the inverted roof offers an extremely interesting solution for its carrying out simplicity and the advantages that generates whereas the roofing accessibility is considered for the maintenance only. Indeed the roofing particular stratigraphy, which considers the thermal insulation, imperatively by extruded expanded polystyrene, laid over the waterproofing layer, it ensures a particular and extremely efficient protection to it, both against the atmospheric agents and the thermal strains ensuring a remarkable endurance. VALLI ZABBAN has designed both bitumen distilled polymeric waterproofing membranes and effective technical solutions specific for all issues concerning this particular roofing. The correct planning of the roofing stratigraphy, together with the use of specialized manpower for the application, are fundamentals for the roofing functionality and, consequently, for its durability. Given the very high value both technical and economical of these roofing it appears absolutely necessary to plan suitable protections to the extruded expanded polystyrene, which undergoes considerable mechanical strain either from dynamic punching during the gravel lay out and from static punching during use. The RUBBERVAL protection mat carries out these functions at the very best thanks to its elasticity and resilience. 1. Sloping layer 2. Membrane first layer 3. Membrane second layer 4. Screed Application RUBBERVAL is simply dry-laid over the waterproof membranes taking care to overlap the side edges and the tops for a length of about 5-8 cm, the laying of the stratigraphy subsequent elements ensures the anchoring.

5. WALKABLE FLAT ROOF The walkable flat roof is, as deducible by the name, an accessible area and can be used as a useful and available space extension. Depending on the typology and the access frequency is necessary to design the more suitable technical solution giving particular attention to the roofing efficiency and to its durability. Given the very high value both technical and economical of these roofing it appears absolutely necessary to plan suitable protections of the waterproof element which undergoes considerable mechanical strain either from dynamic and static punching during use. The RUBBERVAL protection mat carries out these functions at the very best thanks to its elasticity and resilience 2. Sloping layer 3. Vapor barrier 4. Thermal insulation 5. Membrane first layer 6. Vertical overlap first layer 15. Angle connection 16. Vertical overlap vapor barrier The waterproofing system needs to be separated from the heavy protection with a prior layer of a RUBBERVAL mat dry laid on top of the waterproofing membranes taking care to overlap it on the lateral edges and tops for about 5-8 cm width.

2. Waterproofing 3. Sand 4. Rubberval protection layer 5. Screed 6. Screed expansion joint D. < 6 m = flooring joint d. < 3 m = flooring joint v. < 2 m = perimeter vertical joint E. > 2 cm = plastic or elastomeric joint e. > 1 cm. = plastic or elastomeric joint e. < 1 cm. = dry joint The concrete heavy protection, when considered, must be divided with some joints along both directions. The distance between the joints must not be superior to 3 m and its width not less than 1 cm to be filled with a plastic or elastomeric product, it is also necessary to use joints of at least 2 cm every 6 m to be filled with plastic or elastomeric product. 2. Waterproofing 3. Sand 4. Rubberval protection layer 5. Gres flooring 6. Screed expansion joint D. < 6 m = flooring joint d. < 3 m = flooring joint v. < 2 m = perimeter vertical joint E. > 2 cm = plastic or elastomeric joint e. > 1 cm. = plastic or elastomeric joint e. < 1 cm. = dry joint

The RUBBERVAL protection mat is also recommended to be used: under gres flooring, terracotta, etc. laid with cement on reinforced concrete screed not less than 4 cm. thick; 2. Waterproofing 3. Rubberval protection layer 4. Sand 5. Self-blocking paving under ready-made concrete or terracotta elements, stone, etc. 3-4 cm thick laid on a 3 cm. sand layer, maximum dimension 0,25 m2; 2. Waterproofing 3. Rubberval protection layer 4. Prefabricated concrete slabs on supporting feet under floating floor made with concrete slabs placed on specific supports and then directly on the waterproofing system.

6. NON WALKABLE FLAT ROOF UNDER HEAVY PROTECTION In this technical solution the waterproofing system must be separated and protected from the heavy protection with a layer of a RUBBERVAL mat dry laid over of the waterproofing membranes taking care to overlap it on the lateral edges and tops for about 5-8 cm width. To preserve the waterproofing membranes from damages that could be caused both during the gravel laying and from the static punching this has on the system, is the best guarantee for a long efficiency of the roofing. 2. Vertical overlap second layer mineral self-protective waterproofing membrane 10. Flashing 11. Mechanical fixing 12. Primer 13. Vertical overlap second layer 14. Angle connection 15. Vertical overlap vapor barrier Application RUBBERVAL is simply dry-laid over the waterproof membranes taking care to overlap the side edges and the tops for a length of about 5-8 cm, the laying of the stratigraphy subsequent elements it ensures the anchoring.

7. FOUNDATIONS The waterproofing of foundation structures and, generally speaking, of backfilling works, it requires an accurate and careful planning since it will not be possible to intervene to stop possible leaks. The main problems which need to be evaluated by designer are linked to the capillary water rising and to the steam presence which, condensing on cold surfaces, causes dampness formation, to the pressure applied by the groundwater and the washout generated by meteoric water. VALLI ZABBAN has designed a line of membranes and a rubber protections line named RUBBERVAL especially recommended to solve the waterproofing problems of these artifact which, as well as to protect these works from the previously mentioned situations, are also able to bear the heavy stress which they undergo during use. 1. Digging foundation 2. Slab 3. Waterproofing membrane 4. Rubberval protection layer 5. Foundation slab 6. Elevation walls Application To waterproof the foundation slab it should be initially made a slab used for the waterproofing application, over which it will be laid the RUBBERVAL protection mat taking care to overlap the side edges and the tops for a width of about 5-8 cm; the slab base and the following foundation structures will therefore be laid.

8. RETAINING WALLS The waterproofing protection of retaining walls is of fundamental importance to ensure the waterproofing work. RUBBERVAL thanks to its elasticity and resistance, is the ideal product to be used in these situations. 1. Waterproof bituminous membrane 2. Draining pipe 3. Breathing element 4. Rubberval protection layer 5. Waterproof bituminous membrane 6. Non woven mat 7. Soil 8. Waterproof bituminous membrane 9. Pavement 10. External wall 11. External plaster Application Primer will be laid over the foundation; once dried it will be waterproofed with a polymeric bitumen membrane designed for foundations waterproofing.

1. First waterproof membrane 2. Second waterproof membrane unrolled towards the top 3. Gas propane burner 4. Overlap 5. Primer 6. Vertical wall Revive with flame the bituminous membrane which waterproof the foundation and therefore lay RUBBERVAL in a steady way taking care to adhere it everywhere by suitable pressure. Repeat the procedure with the following roll adjoining it to the previous one avoiding to leave pockets between panels (a light overlapping of maximum 1 cm is tolerated). For a better application we suggest to lay the RUBBERVAL roll starting from the top and then move downwards. 1. Unroll towards the bottom 2. Rubberval first and second sheet 3. Waterproofing membranes 4. Primer 5. Vertical wall

8.PROTECTION GALLERIES ALONGSIDE ROCKY RIDGES The current frailty territory problem, rains that are more and more strong and concentrated put a strain on the infrastructures especially along mountains roads making necessary, to secure them, to build protection and retaining walls which need to be waterproofed and protected. Seen the danger, continually threatening, that these galleries are hit by crushed stone and rocks sliding from the mountains, it is absolutely necessary that the waterproofing is protected in a suitable way. VALLI ZABBAN has designed a line of membranes and a rubber protections line named RUBBERVAL especially recommended to protect these works subject to very strong mechanical strains. 1. Waterproof membrane 2. Road 3. Waterproof membrane 4. Rubberval protection layer 5. Protection gallery 6. Waterproof membrane 7. Rubberval protection layer 8. Soil Application Alongside the elevation wall RUBBERVAL will be applied as specified for the backfilling walls, while at the gallery top it will be laid directly on the membrane taking care to overlap the side edges and the tops for a width of about 5-8 cm. The application of the filling material will ensure the anchoring.

10. WALKWAYS AND PUNCHING PROTECTION FROM LIGHT STATIC STRUCTURES Once the waterproofing is made and completed it is necessary to make the walkways for the maintenance and the protection in case fixtures need to be installed on the roof. 2. Waterproofing slated membrane 3. Rubberval 4. Screed 5. Rubberval 6. Prefabricated concrete slabs on supporting feet 7. Air conditioning fixtures Application In case of light fixtures is possible to laid the RUBBERVAL mat over the waterproofing membrane which is directly glued on the application surface, the walkways for the maintenance, always protected by a RUBBERVAL mat, will be made with concrete slabs on supporting feet.

11. WALKWAYS AND PUNCHING PROTECTION FROM HEAVY STATIC STRUCTURES In case of remarkably big dimensions fixtures on top of the roofing it will be necessary to make a platform upon which the structures will be placed; this platform will be waterproofed and the membrane will be protected with a RUBBERVAL mat to ensure the roofing strength capacity. 1. Rubberval 2. Support 3. Waterproofing slated membrane 4. Waterproofing slated membrane 5. Platform 6. Prefabricated concrete slabs on supporting feet 7. Rubberval 8. Screed 9. Technical fixtures Application Lay the RUBBERVAL mat on the waterproofing membrane over the platform made to install the fixtures. The walkways for the maintenance, still protected by a RUBBERVAL mat, will be made with concrete slabs on supporting feet.
