20 MORE INFORMATION & FAQ An environmentally friendly choice All DCS ladder rails and transformer kits come with the energy saving Ecotimer TM. Designed to be hidden behind your existing switch plate, the timer has two ON periods per day that can be adjusted from 1 to 12 hours using the on/off switch (switch plate not supplied). The timer can also be used to select 3 separate heat outputs 50, 75 or 100% via a burst mode dimming function. DCS recommends that the Ecotimer TM is used to save energy thereby reducing pollution and carbon emissions. manufactured in New Zealand and Australia DCS design and manufacture heated towel rails from scratch, from raw materials available locally in the Australian and New Zealand market. DCS do not claim local manufacture status for products that have been partly or fully assembled elsewhere. DCS is committed to manufacturing in the local economy and does not engage in the import and distribution of product assembled offshore. DCS do not use offshore partners to partially or fully assemble any part of any heated towel rail that we manufacture. electrical ip zones Ladder style Zone V AC, IPX5 Elements replaceable. 1 Heating cable in the vertical tube equates to ~10% of the overall heated cable length. 2 Modular style Zone 1 12V AC, IPX7 Elements replaceable. 3 Heating cable in the vertical tube equates to ~10% of the overall heated cable length. 2 1 Ladder rail elements are very low maintenance and are not expected to fail during the lifetime of the towel rail. Should a repair be necessary, the element can be replaced at the factory in Australia or New Zealand for approx $145 dependant on the size of the ladder. 2 The heat liberated in the vertical tube contributes to the overall surface temperature of the towel rail through convection and conduction. 3 Modular rail elements are very low maintenance and are not expected to fail during the lifetime of the towel rail. Should a repair be necessary, the elements can be replaced on site by the customer. Every modular towel rail contains a spare element by design. 20

21 Q. WHAT ARE DCS TOWEL RAILS MADE OF? A. All DCS towel rails are manufactured from solid 304 Grade stainless steel and are available in a mirror finish (chrome appearance) or satin finish (brushed appearance). Matte black and matte white are powder-coated finishes applied to the stainless steel. Custom metallic finishes can be applied to the stainless steel (eg copper, brass), POA. Q. Is Stainless steel better than chrome plated mild steel? A. Yes, stainless steel is an inherently corrosion resistant material whereas chrome plated mild steel relies on the integrity of a plated finish (about 1/3 the thickness of a human hair) to prevent corrosion. Q. What is the warranty? A. 7 Year warranty for faults in materials and assembly, 3 years on electrical components. Q. Are DCS towel rails liquid filled? A. No, DCS towel rails are dry internally. Dry towel rails heat up faster, do not leak, do not require plumbing and have a very long life heating element. A detailed comparison of dry versus liquid filled is available online at Q. How far apart should modular rails be placed? A. The recommended vertical spacing is 240mm. The customer can vary this dimension, provided that the rail farthest from the transformer is within two metres of the transformer. Q. Can the towel rails be polished? A. Yes, the uncoated towel rails can be polished with metal polish pastes, such as Brasso and Autosol. The powder-coated finishes should be cleaned with a damp cloth. Q. Where is the transformer installed for modular towel rails? A. Modular towel rail transformers are normally installed behind the switch plate or directly above the towel rail location in the ceiling cavity. See installation instructions at for more details. Q. Can the isolation switch for the towel rail be next to the light switch? A. It is recommended that an isolation switch for the towel rail be placed within 1 metre of the appliance. Placing the switch further away will depend on the particular situation, but is possible. A DCS concealed cable accessory kit may be required. Consultation with the electrician early in the project would be essential. Q. Are the towel rails thermostatically controlled? A. No, the towel rails are designed to reach a temperature under towels of approximately 55 C. The surface temperature of the towel rails will vary depending on the number of towels on the rail, the ambient air temperature, and the dampness of the towels. Q. How much does it cost to run a towel rail per year (Any brand) A. Based on a conservative estimate of $2.50 per watt, per year, a 100watt towel rail would cost approximately $250 per year to run if left on constantly. DCS towel rails are supplied with an Ecotimer TM as standard. If the timer is used to run the towel rail for only 8 hours out of 24, the saving per annum would be approximately $166 (based on scenario above). Daily operating cost, 23 cents for 8 hours. Q. Can towel rails be installed above a bath or basin? A. No, is the safe answer for almost all heated towel rails that are mains powered V. However, DCS do manufacture 12V heated towel rails that can be installed safely in this location provided the electrician is fully consulted early in the project. Refer to the specifications on opposite page for all 12 volt models. Q. DO YOU REPAIR OR SERVICE DCS HEATED TOWEL RAILS? A. Yes we manufacture, service and repair all our towel rails in Brisbane and Auckland. Q. I am looking to get a custom made rail from DCS how do I go about that? A. We can manufacture custom towel rails to customers specifications by either the customer or architect submitting a drawing to a bathroom retailer who then deals with us. There is a drawing tool on our website at Q. Can the towel rails be used without the heating & can the single BARS be lined up differently instead of underneath each other? A. Yes, all our towel rails can be ordered as unheated and our modular rails can be arranged in any configuration, heated or unheated. Q. DOES THE ECOTIMER HAVE TO BE INSTALLED FOR THE TOWEL RAIL TO WORK? A. The timer does not have to be installed for the towel rail to work. However, with the timer installed the switch can function as a normal switch OR can be used to program the timer. There is really no reason not to install the timer. You can always switch it on or off, as you normally would. Q. CAN LADDER RAILS BE WIRED FOR 12V AND DO THEY PROVIDE THE SAME HEAT AS MAINS POWERED? A. Yes we can manufacture most of our ladder rail range in low voltage and they produce the same heat output as a mains powered rail. Q. CAN LADDER RAILS BE MOUNTED UPSIDE DOWN? A. Yes but the small retaining screws that would normally be concealed somewhat, facing the floor, may be more visible facing upwards. If you require cable entry through the top left or right leg you can order the towel rail cabled this way. 21
