8 Alzheimer s and Dementia A worldwide concern According to Alzheimer s Disease International (ADI), more than 35.5 million people worldwide are affected by problems linked with Alzheimer s. In 2009 the number of Australians with dementia was estimated to be 245,000 (over 1% of the population).
