1 Memorandum TO: Clark Champion, General Manager, Sun Lakes HOA #3 FROM: SUBJECT: Thomas Spendiarian, RA Lance Willis, PhD Practice Court abatement line items DATE: April 12, 2013 Here is a more detailed review of the abatement options for the converted practice courts in the format that you requested. It should be noted, however, that the attenuation values are included for informational purposes. As discussed previously, an acceptable abatement strategy is achievable for this site, but it must be implemented in a specific way in order for the wall system to meet its acoustical performance specification. This means that while there is some latitude in construction materials, the amount of absorbing material and the placement of the walls and absorption must be done in the manner detailed in the March 12, 2013 report. The line items given below are not mix and matchable except in regard to the materials or wall type used. Decibel values are not additive. The changes in attenuation listed below are relative to the conditions existing on February 25, 2013 when testing was last done on the site. This included Acoustifence installed on the east and north fencing with no absorptive liner on any wall surfaces. Wall heights are with respect to playing surface. Wall lengths are approximate. The design of any new features at the Sun lakes community center, should incorporate aesthetics, landscaping, topography, budget, engineering, permitting and scheduling. Aesthetics are important, in that a large feature such as a noise control wall will be visually prominent, in its position at the entry of the community center. The color, shape, texture and form of the fence should be designed with the preferences of the residents in mind and subject to their review and approval. Any fence greater than 6 high will require permitting by the County Development Review Dept. and will require engineering, and a complete drawing package. Securing competitive bidding will also require drawings. For these reasons, it is recommended that Sun Lakes secure proposals from qualified Architects and/or Landscape Architects for such work. It is understood that Sun Lakes is currently interviewing Landscape Architects for work at the community. The design of this fence can possibly be added to their scope of work for the current RFP s. Or possibly, a new Request for Proposal can be released. 1 of 10

2 North Wall The existing chain link fence is not capable of supporting sound insulating or absorbing panels. A free standing wall is recommended. Minimum height: 9.0 ft Length: 81 ft Absorptive Liner: optional Wall Types Item per ft Length (ft) North South East West Verticrete $ $10, AcoustiShield (w/ liner) $ $17, ~ Soundfighter (w/ liner) $ $22, ~ Sound Barrier Wall (by Noise Barrier) $ $24, ~ South Wall The existing masonry wall is sufficient in height and construction. Existing height: 9.5 ft Length: 50 ft Absorptive Liner: required Note: The quilted fiberglass absorber is a temporary solution. It will have a short lifespan in an exterior application. For more information, see: 2 of 10
