DHT NO.: TANK, POLYETHYLENE, HORIZONTAL LEG, MINIMUM 500 GALLON CAPACITY PUBLICATION This specification is a product of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). It is the practice of TxDOT to support other entities by making this specification available through the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP). This specification may not be sold for profit or monetary gain. If this specification is altered in any way, the header, and any and all references to TxDOT must be removed. TxDOT does not assume nor accept any liability when this specification is used in the procurement process by any other entity. PART I GENERAL CLAUSES AND CONDITIONS 1. The equipment furnished under this specification shall be the latest improved model in current production, as offered to commercial trade, and shall be of quality workmanship and material. The respondent represents that all equipment offered under this specification shall be new. USED, SHOPWORN, DEMONSTRATOR, PROTOTYPE, REMANUFACTURED, RECONDITIONED OR DISCONTINUED MODELS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. 2. Respondent should submit with the solicitation or have on file with TxDOT, Austin, Texas, the latest printed literature and detailed specifications on equipment the respondent proposes to furnish. This literature is for informational purposes only. 3. All parts not specifically mentioned which are necessary for the unit to be complete and ready for operation or which are normally furnished as standard equipment shall be furnished by the vendor. All parts shall conform in strength, quality and workmanship to the accepted standard of the industry. 4. The unit provided shall meet or exceed all federal and state of Texas safety, health, lighting and noise regulations and standards in effect and applicable to equipment furnished at the time of manufacture. 5. It is the intent of TxDOT to purchase goods, equipment and services having the least adverse environmental impact, within the constraints of statutory purchasing requirements, TxDOT need, availability, and sound economical considerations. Suggested changes and environmental enhancements for possible inclusion in future revisions of this specification are encouraged. 6. TxDOT encourages all manufacturers to comply voluntarily with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Recommended Practice for marking of plastic parts per current SAE J1344 standard. All plastic components furnished to this specification should have an imprinted SAE symbol identifying the resin composition of the component so that the item can be recycled after its useful life. Manufacturers are encouraged to use recycled plastics and materials in the manufacture of their products in order to conserve natural resources, energy and landfill space. Respondents should note that future specification revisions may require mandatory compliance with the SAE plastic coding system. This Specification Supersedes Specification No., Revised March

2 7. TxDOT is committed to procuring quality goods and equipment. TxDOT encourages manufacturers to adopt the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards, technically equivalent to the current American National Standards Institute/American Society for Quality Control (ANSI/ASQC Q91-93), and obtain certification. Adopting and implementing these standards is considered beneficial to the manufacturer, TxDOT, and the environment. It is TxDOT's position that the total quality management concepts contained within these standards can result in reduced production costs, higher quality products, and more efficient use of energy and natural resources. PART II SPECIFICATIONS 1. SCOPE: This specification describes a high density linear polyethylene opaque white tank. Tank shall be minimum 500 gallon to maximum 525 gallon capacity, horizontal leg type, with two legs, complete with bands for mounting to a flat metal truck bed. The chemical properties used in fabrication of the tank will be any process recommended by the manufacturer for storing herbicides such as Dupont Velpar and Monsanto Roundup. The unit furnished to this specification shall meet or exceed the following: EXAMPLE: Norwesco Wylie T500L T525LNKS or TXDOT approved equal NOTICE TO RESPONDENT: Any example shown is listed to show type and class of equipment desired. Respondent is cautioned to read the specification carefully, as there may be special requirements not commonly offered by the manufacturer. DO NOT ASSUME STANDARD EQUIPMENT MEETS ALL OF THE DETAILED SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS MERELY BECAUSE IT IS LISTED AS AN EXAMPLE. Respondent is cautioned that any unit delivered to the FOB point which does not meet specification in every aspect will not be accepted. 2. DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Tank shall be: 2.1. Built for mobile service with a minimum capacity of 500 gallons and a maximum capacity of 525 gallons for use with liquid herbicide weighing 12 pounds per gallon. Examples of herbicide liquids used are Dupont Velpar and Monsanto Roundup Minimum 48 inches in width and minimum 71 inches to a maximum 75 inches in length. All dimensions shall fall within a range of tolerance of ± 2 inches to allow for differences in injection molding processes Built with two legs for support, with molded-in quarter section interior baffles to reduce sloshing. The two legs shall extend the entire width of the tank at the base Constructed by a molded process which is highly resistant to stress cracking and ultraviolet (UV) light damage or degradation and molded with added pigmentation which shall give the tank a smooth opaque white finish. The finish shall effectively inhibit algae growth by significantly reducing UV light inside the tank Equipped with a minimum 16-inch inside diameter (ID) access port with lid located at the tank s longitudinal midpoint. Access port may be centered or off-set The access port lid shall be equipped with a 4-1/2 inch to 5 inch ID covered fill opening. The fill opening shall be located in the center of the access port lid. 2-4

3 The access port lid shall fit snugly to prevent leakage or inadvertent detachment. Lid shall not require the use of a hold-down device such as clips, bands or straps Equipped with a factory installed, completely assembled 3/4 inch agitation line as indicated on Attachment A, Drawing of 500/525 Herbicide Tank. Agitator housing nozzles shall be nylon or other chemically-compatible material. All plumbing from the bottom of the tank to the agitator nozzles shall be stainless steel and all connections shall be assembled with threadlocker compound to prevent unintentional separation during operation. The threadlocker shall be Loctite, medium strength blue, part number manufactured by Permatex Corporation Equipped with an upper 1-1/2 inch female pipe fitting (FPT) outlet for a return line at the rear of the tank as indicated on Attachment A Equipped with a factory installed primary suction outlet which shall be a 1-1/2 inch bulkhead fitting located in the bottom center of the tank. All bulkhead fittings shall be bolt-on 316 stainless steel, with seals made of Viton, polyethylene, or TxDOT approved equal External fittings shall be installed with polyethylene gaskets and externally coated with Permatex Form-A-Gasket sealant, 2C 80011, No. 2, or TxDOT approved equal, to prevent leakage Equipped with a factory installed anti-vortex plate over the bottom outlet. The anti-vortex plate shall be designed so that flow from the tank is not restricted. All outlets and inlets shall be reinforced in accordance with industry standard Equipped with calibration scales molded on each end of the tank marked in 25 gallon increments. Each scale shall have minimum 2 inch black rectangular strip painted over the length of the scales. The molded markings of the scales shall be painted or sanded in relief to stand out in contrast to the black strip. These scales shall accurately measure the volume of the liquid inside the tank Equipped with sight gauges located on each end of the tank for quick reference to the level of liquid in the tank. The sight gauges shall work in conjunction with the scales required in Para Furnished with hold-down bands to secure the two support legs of the tank to the truck bed. The hold-down bands shall be constructed of minimum 1 inch galvanized or painted steel bent to the specific radius of the tank. The bands shall have a welded mount foot at each end with pre-drilled 5/8 inch holes Configured as shown in Attachment A. 3. TESTING 3.1. The vendor shall ensure the accuracy of the calibration scale for each shipment of tanks received. TxDOT will make a random selection of the delivered tanks and test the sample for accuracy of the scale All tanks shall be tested and be free of leaks, exterior paint, oil and other markings not mentioned in this specification. The tanks shall be thoroughly cleaned inside and outside prior to delivery Tanks failing the scale accuracy test or failing to meet any other specification requirements will be returned to the vendor at vendor s cost. 3-4

4 4. PARTS AND SERVICE: The manufacturer of the equipment furnished shall have an authorized dealer within the state of Texas. The authorized dealer shall have factory-trained personnel available for warranty repairs and the performance of service. The dealer shall also maintain an inventory of high-usage parts and a quick source for low-usage parts. 5. WARRANTY: The unit shall be warranted against defects in material and workmanship for a period of not less than 12 months and shall cover 100 percent parts and labor for the unit. If the manufacturer's standard warranty period exceeds 12 months, then the standard warranty period shall be in effect. The vendor shall furnish the manufacturer's warranty to the receiving district at time of delivery. The warranty begins on the date the unit is determined to meet specifications and is accepted by TxDOT. 6.
