1 LEED information sheet helps you earn LEED credits products are as responsible as they are beautiful. The following information is provided to assist you when applying for LEED credits when you specify materials. leed credits (commercial interiors) 1. materials Waste Management (MR 2.1 & up to 2 points) Credit Requirement Develop and implement a construction waste management plan. Recycle or salvage at least 50% (1 point) or 75% (2 points). packaging is designed to be almost entirely recyclable, making it easy to divert construction waste from landfills. fabrication capabilities reduce the amount of materials needed on site. Reclaim makes it easy to extend the life of panels, redirecting them from landfills. 2. Recycled Content (mr 4.1 & up to 2 points) Credit Requirement The sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one half of pre-consumer (post-industrial) recycled content must equal at least 10% (1 point) or 20% (2 points) of the total value of project materials. Varia Ecoresin and 100 Percent both contain high levels of recycled content. Some Hardware contains recycled content. Please see the recycled content category in the LEED FACTS section below. 3. Low-emitting Materials/IAQ Compliant Products (eq point) Credit Requirements s and sealants used INSIDE the building seeking certification must not exceed LEED limits for. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) content. ALL adhesives and sealants used by and offered meet this LEED requirement. See LEED s Matrix below for specifics. 4. Regional Materials (mr up to 2 points) Requirement A minimum of 10% of construction material costs must be extracted or harvested and/or manufactured within 500 miles of the project site (as the crow flies). Manufactured is defined as the final assembly of components into the product that is furnished and installed. This does not include on-site assembly, erection, or installation of finished components All Varia Ecoresin and Chroma panels are manufactured in Salt Lake City, Utah. All products fabricated by are considered to be manufactured in Salt Lake City, Utah. Any products fabricated by a Partner or other third party are considered to be manufactured at the site of the third party. panels can help projects within 500 miles earn this regional material credit. Total Recycle Factor = (% post-consumer content) + 0.5(% pre-consumer content) ** SCS Certificate available at ***LEED assigns a default value of 25% post-consumer recycled content for steel. Stainless Steel hardware includes all Point Support: Barrels, Caps and Flanges. Suspend: Cable Connectors, Surface Brackets and Flanges. Align: Smooth and Curve Collection april matdoc 35 rev , Inc. 3 Calculating the value of recycled content of a panel The recycled content cost is calculated by multiplying the value of the product by the total recycle factor. The Total Recycle Factor is the sum of the percentage of post-consumer recycled content and ½ of the percentage of pre-consumer recycled content. Examples: Varia Ecoresin (except Crush and River Rock): cost of the panel x 0.20 = value of recycled content Varia Ecoresin Crush Max (Pure, Blue or Turquoise): 1/2 inch: cost of panel x = value of recycled content 3/4 inch: cost of panel x = value of recycled content 1 inch: cost of panel x = value of recycled content 100 Percent: 1 inch: cost of panel x 1.00 = the value of the recycled content 500 mile regional map This map shows areas that would qualify for the LEED Regional Materials section (MR 5.1) The 500 miles is measured as a geographic distance, not driving distance. Materials cannot be LEED certified, they can only help projects earn LEED points. Please see above for details on how materials can help your project earn LEED points. What processes are considered on-site fabrication (to qualify this site as the site of final fabrication for regional manufacturing credit)? LEED defines manufacturing as the final site of assembly of components into the building product that is furnished and installed. The intent is to reduce the mileage traveled of construction and furniture materials in order to minimize the negative environmental impacts of such transportation. This credit can be applied to materials when they are fabricated or integrated with other materials into a multi-component system, such as when used in cabinets and furniture. The site of such fabrication can be considered the manufacturing location and can help earn LEED credits within 500 miles of the project site. Cutting, drill- april matdoc 35 rev , Inc. 5 ing holes, and applying hardware are not considered manufacturing for LEED credits. When panels are installed without being fabricated into a multi-component system the manufacturing site is the original site of manufacturing. Manufacturing sites for our products can be found under the Regional Materials section of our LEED document. Does drilling holes and installing hardware count as final assembly? No. Drilling holes and installing hardware do NOT fall under the LEED definition of manufacturing or final assembly. Please see above for a more detailed explanation. Do Reclaim panels qualify for additional LEED credits? Reclaim accepts previously installed panels as well as panels that were damaged or flawed in the manufacturing process. Previously installed panels could be counted towards LEED credits as salvaged material, but we do not yet have a process for labeling them separately. The next version of LEED will likely have a credit associated with purchasing materials from companies like, who take back their materials at end of life. Are recycled content claims certified? Varia Ecoresin (with the exception of River Rock) is certified by Scientific Certifications System (SCS), a third party certifier, to contain a minimum 40% post-industrial recycled content.
