1 AND LEED NC LEED 2009 FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION AND MAJOR RENOVATIONS LEED is a national third-party certification system that recognizes leadership in green building. The LEED Green Building Rating Systems are voluntary, consensus-based, and market-driven. Based on existing and proven technology, they evaluate environmental performance from a whole building perspective over a building s life cycle, providing a definitive standard for what constitutes a green building in design, construction, and operation. LEED for New Construction and Major Renovation is a rating system for buildings that was designed to guide and distinguish high performance buildings that have less of an impact on the environment, are healthier for those who work and/or live in the building, and are more profitable than their conventional counterparts. The LEED for New Construction Rating System can be applied to commercial, institutional and high-rise residential projects, with a focus on office buildings. LEED for New Construction is a performance-oriented rating system where building projects earn points for satisfying criterion within five environmental categories: Sustainable Sites (SS), Water Efficiency (WE), Energy and Atmosphere (EA), Materials and Resources (MR) and Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ). An additional category, Innovation in Design (ID), addresses sustainable building expertise as well as design measures not covered under the five environmental categories. Regional bonus points (RP) are an additional feature of LEED and acknowledge the importance of local conditions in determining best environmental design and construction practices. 3 AND LEED HOMES LEED FOR HOMES (2008) LEED is a national third-party certification system that recognizes leadership in green building. The LEED Green Building Rating Systems are voluntary, consensus-based, and market-driven. Based on existing and proven technology, they evaluate environmental performance from a whole building perspective over a building s life cycle, providing a definitive standard for what constitutes a green building in design, construction, and operation. LEED for Homes, which launched in February 2008, measures green homebuilding performance based on eight categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Materials & Resources, Energy & Atmosphere, Indoor Environmental Quality, Location & Linkages, Awareness & Education, Innovation and Design Process. The LEED for Homes Rating System works by requiring a minimum level of performance through prerequisites, and rewarding improved performance in each of the above categories. The level of performance is indicated by four performance tiers Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum according to the number of points earned. FOR MORE INFORMATION, VISIT.COM

This can earn up to 5 points ($), assuming the minimum energy performance requirements for EAc1.1 were met through other means. 5* 5* 5* 5* *Icynene insulation products can reduce heating and cooling costs by up to 50%. EA2: Insulation (^) Note: Energy use study shows that over 40% (+) of residential building energy consumption is attributed to space heating and cooling. (+) US Energy Information Administration 2005 Residential Building Energy Consumption Survey, Icynene insulation products may contribute towards the enhanced insulation requirements necessary for 2 points, both by offering high R-values and by greatly simplifying the effort required to achieve HERS Grade 1 workmanship Please note that LEED for Homes includes both a performance path of calculated energy use (EA1) and a prescriptive path (EA2-6). These two paths are mutually exclusive, so only one can be used. Effective R-values of wall, ceiling, floor and basement components must exceed those specified in IECC 2006 by 5%. EA3: Air Infiltration (^) 3 Greatly reduced or minimal envelope air leakage can be expected with Icynene insulation products superior air sealing capabilities. Icynene insulation products are air barrier materials and, when installed in accordance with manufacturers instructions and together with complementary strategies, will help achieve minimal envelope leakage of less than or equal to the required 50 Pa MR2: Environmentally Preferable Products 8 Icynene insulation products are Collaborative for High Schools (CHPS) EQ 2.2 Section compliant, meeting nationally recognized requirements as a low-emitting material in accordance with the California Department of Health Services Standard Practice. They can therefore earn 0.5 point (^) Note that LEED for Homes includes both a performance path of calculated energy use (EA1) and a prescriptive path (EA2-6). 5 AND LEED SCHOOLS LEED For Schools (2009) LEED is a national third-party certification system that recognizes leadership in green building. The LEED Green Building Rating Systems are voluntary, consensus-based, and market-driven. Based on existing and proven technology, they evaluate environmental performance from a whole building perspective over a building s life cycle, providing a definitive standard for what constitutes a green building in design, construction, and operation. Regional bonus points (RP) are an additional feature of LEED and acknowledge the importance of local conditions in determining best environmental design and construction practices. The LEED for Schools Rating System recognizes the unique nature of the design and construction of K-12 schools. It addresses issues such as classroom acoustics, master planning, mold prevention and environmental site assessment. By addressing the uniqueness of school spaces and children s health issues, LEED for Schools provides a unique, comprehensive tool for schools that wish to build green, with measurable results. LEED for Schools (2009) Credit Total Available EA2: Minimum Energy EA1: Optimize Energy Icynene insulation products may contribute towards reducing design energy consumption by 10% for new buildings or 5% for major renovations compared with a reference building designed to ASHRAE Standard Up to 14.3 % energy savings can be achieved with Icynene insulation versus traditional energy options. This can earn up to 7 points, assuming the minimum energy performance requirements for EAp2 were met through other means. *Icynene insulation products can reduce heating and cooling costs by up to 50%. IEQ3: Minimum Acoustical Icynene insulation products may contribute towards meeting maximum allowable background noise levels (as described in Annex B of ANSI S of 45dBA in primary learning spaces. Note: Sound can travel through a variety of mechanisms, but the most common means is through air. The most effective way to reduce the transmission of airborne sound is therefore to effectively control air movement. As a combined air barrier and insulation material, Icynene products offer an effective means of reducing sound problems that are the result of air leaks, penetrations and alternative (flanking) sound paths. The best practice is to partially fill the cavity, sufficient to provide an air seal but also to provide an air gap discontinuity for the transmission of sound. IEQ4: Low- Emitting Materials 4 Icynene insulation products are Collaborative for High Schools (CHPS) EQ 2.2 Section compliant, meeting nationally recognized requirements as a low-emitting material in accordance with the California Department of Health Services Standard Practice. They can therefore contribute to the low-emitting materials - ceiling and wall systems - credit. <1 <1 <1 <1 IEQ10: Mold Prevention 1 Icynene insulation products have low water vapor permeability and effective air sealing capabilities that reduce moisture transport, helping to contribute towards the prevention of mold growth in the building envelope. Icynene light density insulation products also allow moisture to dissipate from the building envelope contributing towards the reduction in potential for mold growth in the building envelope. Further, Icynene insulation products have also been third party tested to confirm they do not provide a food source for mold. <1 <1 <1 <1 MD-C-200 has low water vapor permeability and effective air-sealing capabilities that reduce moisture transport, helping to contribute towards the prevention of mold growth in the building envelope.
