2 SYSTEMS AND HOW THEY WORK REFRIGERATION, AIR-CONDITIONING AND VENTILATION SYSTEMS Refrigeration systems are to be found in many areas of industry and commerce. They can vary greatly in terms of type and size, but one thing is true for all systems: the cooling energy produced in one place must be brought to the product or process somewhere else. One field of application which is becoming more and more important is supplying cooling energy for air-conditioning systems. All parts of the refrigeration systems must be provided with long-term protection against condensation and energy losses. There are also requirements in terms of noise control and fire protection. 3 REQUIREMENTS MADE OF THE INSULATION LEGAL REQUIREMENTS Refrigeration and air-conditioning technology consumes the most energy in industrial installations and building equipment. In some European countries the requirements for the insulation of these systems are regulated by law. Why insulate? The prevention of condensation on the surface of the insulation is a minimum requirement which must be fulfilled in the long term by all insulation used in cold applications. From an energy perspective, it makes sense to design this insulation in such a way that above and beyond these requirements - optimal energy savings are achieved. The insulation must also meet acoustic and fire protection requirements. Furthermore, insulation in cold applications must ensure that thermal and acoustic bridging is prevented in the vicinity of the pipe brackets.

4 SOLUTIONS FOR REFRIGERA- TION, AIR-CONDITIONING AND VENTILATION SYSTEMS Armacell offers various system solutions for both thermal and acoustic insulation and fire seals for different types of pipes. Elastomeric insulation materials not only have excellent technical properties but can also be installed quickly, easily and neatly. Armacell insulation materials are ideally coordinated with each other and tested as a system. TECHNICAL PROPERTIES Closed-cell Armaflex has low thermal conductivity and very high resistance to water-vapour transmission. Armacell products also offer good noise control properties. Fire-resistant wall and ceiling penetrations for almost all types of pipes can be realized simply and reliably with Armaflex Protect. INSTALLATION BENEFITS Armaflex is a flexible, fibre dust free elastomeric insulation material which can be installed quickly, easily and neatly. The material is so flexible that it can be used reliably even in tight spots on the building site. The insulation material adapts to complicated shapes and can be glued securely in its full material thickness at critical points (e.g. penetrations, intersections etc.) The use of self-adhesive tubes and sheets greatly reduces the installation time and the amount of Armaflex Adhesive needed. If maintenance work is necessary on the insulated installations, the material can be cut open and then simply re-glued afterwards. With the Armafix pipe supports, which match the Armaflex range exactly, brackets can be mounted quickly and easily with no additional effort. When microbes come in contact with the insulation surface, Microban protection penetrates the cell wall of the micro-organism, disabling its ability to function, grow and reproduce. Because the protection is built in during the manufacturing process, it will not wash off or wear away. This gives AF/Armaflex products an added level of protection against mould and mildew. The new antimicrobial AF/Armaflex is therefore the ideal long-term solution for insulating ventilation or air-conditioning equipment. It has an ideal ratio of insulation values and optimal installation properties due to its specific microcell structure.
