Chainflex Cables

Common Cable Failure Modes Loss of Continuity Insulation Damage Shield Failure Jacket Abrasion Swelling/Cracking Corkscrew

Chainflex Design 1. Strain-relieving Center Core Maintains cable geometry and provides additional tensile strength. 2. Conductor Stranding Strand diameter, pitch, and direction optimized through testing. 3. Conductor Insulation High quality, adhesion resistant, and pressure extruded. 4. Bundled Design Cancels torsion forces and distributes stress over greater length of conductor. 5. Pressure Extruded Jackets Fills gussets between conductors guiding them through flexing motion. 6. Braided Shield Optimized braid angle prevents breakage and increases torsional stability while preventing EMI. 7. Outer Jacket Material specifically chosen to be oil/chemical resistance, abrasion/cut resistance, UV, and high temperature range

Bundled Design Cables constructed in layers are more prone to corkscrew effect. Igus has not experienced the corkscrew effect with the bundled Chainflex design during testing or installed in the field.

Pressure Extruded Jacket Competition: loose tube extruded over barrier tape construction. Movement is not controlled allowing conductors to move within the cable and wear faster. Chainflex: conductor movement is controlled maintaining uniform geometry.

Shield Construction Competition: non-braided long pitch allows shield to separate exposing to EMI also places shield wires under greater stress increasing chances of breakage. Chainflex: Tightly braided with short pitch maintains EMI protection while reducing bending stresses.
