2 - TECHNICAL DATA SHEET - MAKERS OF ADHESIVES, SEALANTS, AND RELATED PRODUCTS SINCE Acrylast (Acrylic SealantSealant) Adress: 8428 Shepard RD SE T2C 1R6, Calgary, AB Phone: [403] Fax: [403] PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Acrylast Acrylic Sealant is a one-component, single-component, room temperature gunning, non-sag sealing compound for use in applications demanding the ultimate in adhesion and weathering. COMPOSITION Acrylic copolymer base APPLICATIONS Acrylast Acrylic Sealant is a high quality, permanently sealing material which finds widespread use in the following construction applications: a) General purpose caulking b) Glazing c) Weatherproofing d) Curtain wall sealing e) Low expansion, interior and exterior joints This material will not sag in vertical or overhead joints. Cure occurs when volatile solvent is evaporated from the applied sealant. The sealant continues towards a higher state of cure over a period of several weeks. The cured sealant provides a firm, flexible barrier against air and water for extended periods of time regardless of the type of exposure it is subjected to. A tenacious bond will be formed to all common construction materials without priming. LIMITATIONS Acrylast Acrylic Sealant should not be used in expansion joints or any construction form where severe lateral and shear movement is expected. Do not use in floor joints. PACKAGING Acrylast Acrylic Sealant is available in spouted cartridges and 20 litre pails. STORAGE LIFE Acrylast Acrylic Sealant will remain room temperature gunnable for a minimum of six months, when stored in unopened containers at temperatures of 72o F or below. 4 INSTALLATION JOINT DIMENSIONS Acrylast Acrylic Sealant should not get used in joints with a great deal of movement. All joints should be four times as wide as the maximum joint movement, and joint depth should not exceed one-half of the width. Most common types of expansion joint filler or backing can be used with Acrylast Acrylic Sealant. Use a foam backing to which the sealant will not bond, will optimize the expansion capabilities of the joint. SURFACE PREPARATION Surfaces to be sealed, caulked or glazed should be clean and dry. Loose material of all types should be eliminated. Oily materials have the most detrimental effect on a good sealant bond. APPLICATION Acrylast Acrylic Sealant can be applied with hand or air-operated caulking guns, or pumped from 20 litre containers with air or hydraulic equipment. Application is very fast and easy due to the thixotropic, buttery consistency of the material. For optimum appearance and bond adhesion, the sealant mass should be tooled after applying. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Acrylast Acrylic Sealant contains a small amount of volatile solvent. Store and use this sealant away from heat sources such as sparks or flames. HEALTH PRECAUTIONS Adequate ventilation should be afforded to prevent excessive inhalation of solvent. Normal personal hygiene practices such as washing after exposure to the sealant should be observed. The sealant may be harmful if ingested and a physician should be summoned immediately.
