2 Pipex px Product Group: Manholes, Chambers & Tanks Pipex px Product Type: Combined Sewer Overflow CSO Pipex px Specification: PX-MH-SP-E.01 Pipex px Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Chamber Bespoke Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) chambers are installed as relief points for excess flow in Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS). CSO chambers enable the dual function of enabling the discharge of excess flows directly into river, streams and local watercourses during storms or periods of increased rainfall, while minimising the environmental impact of foul solids, sediments & pollutants that are inevitably contained within the flow. Pipex heavy duty HDPE CSO chambers are prefabricated to project specific dimensions and configurations for fast track site installation, including to live combined sewer applications. The chambers will be factory constructed to provide a fully welded, watertight seal for the containment of foul and surface water and the protection of local water tables and the environment. Pipex CSO chambers are entirely bespoke and can be supplied with any type of static or mechanical screen, retro or factory fitted, flow control devices, weir walls, jet wash/spray systems and inline valves as required by end user. The chambers can be supplied circular or rectangular as well modular to suit specific site requirements, with internal pipe work and channels as standard. Each CSO chamber will be numbered with an indelible marker to correspond with the site layout drawings. CSO Chamber Detail Drawings CAD detail drawings of each CSO chamber, based on consultants design, will be submitted by Pipex for approval by the client. Drawing details will indicate cover level, connection invert levels, tank and flow capacity. Thermoplastic Materials of Construction CSO chamber and internal pipe work will typically be HDPE Din 8075 & Pipex Chemical corrosion guide is available on request. Pipex thermoplastic waste material is 100% recyclable. Methods of Construction Thermoplastic welding completed in accordance with BS EN Plastics Welding personnel, under the Certification Scheme for Welders and Inspection Personnel (CSWIP). Approved by the Thermal Welders Institute (TWI). British Standard Specifications Rectangular and Circular Combined Sewer Overflow chambers will be fabricated in general accordance to BS EN and generally tested to BS EN 7158 (plastic inspection chambers for drains and sewers). Pipe Connections The spigot ends can be supplied as plain end or adapted to suit the connecting drainage system e.g. vitrified clay, PVC, cast iron, ductile iron, HDPE as required. Joint options mechanical or push fit couplers. Internal Benching and Channels The CSO chambers can be supplied complete with open channel barren bends. Benching will be fabricated to a gradient of 1:10 to 1:30 as required and welded from the wall of the chamber to the through drain channel or inspection covers. Manhole Access Steps/Ladders Pipex can install either access steps or ladders to comply with each end user s specific requirements. Access steps will be bright yellow polypropylene steel core steps to BSEN 13101:2002. Plastic Encapsulated access Steps WIS :1990. Ladders will be either GRP or Stainless Steel to BS EN 14396:2004. Access steps and ladders will be factory installed into the chamber with a welded water tight seal. CDM Regulations Confined Space Regulations 1997 Contrary to traditional CSO chamber construction methods, Pipex CSO chambers eliminate the need for confined space working. By providing an alternative approach, foreseeable health and safety risks are reduced from the outset. Installation and Loading For CSO chamber handling & installation refer to Pipex Work Instruction WP47. The CSO chamber shafts and bases are designed to meet the stiffness requirements (as per BS7158) for installation up to the specified invert depth. Pipex must be notified of any poor site ground conditions and/or high water table conditions at the proposal stage. Additional tank reinforcement maybe required for locations with a high water table. When the CSO chambers are situated in D400 load areas e.g. road carriageways, a concrete surround will be required to take the load transmitted by the Reinforced Concrete cover slab. Operation and Maintenance When installed to Pipex installation instructions the CSO chambers will operate with minimum maintenance. Due to the nature of the thermoplastic construction materials, the units will resist the build of Fat s, Oil s & Grease (FOG). If rodding is required use polypropylene rods, alternatively the chambers can be pressure jetted to a maximum pressure of 180 bar 2600 psi in accordance with WRc jetting standard. If alterations are required to the chamber Pipex will be contacted to discuss the procedure. Manhole Step Testing BS EN 13101: Step iron bending test when installed within a Pipex chamber BS EN 13101: Step iron pull-out test when installed within a Pipex chamber BS EN 1277: 1996 Method 2 condition A - Positive pressure test on gasket chamber internal bolted inspection cover plate Product Options Available: CSO chamber Shuttering System Optional timber shuttering can be supplied to suit the consultants specification, factory fabricated for each chamber to accept the poured concrete surround (150mm minimum surround). Rebar Reinforcement Pipex can install rebar reinforcement tied into the external HDPE reinforcement. Pipex can offer to design reinforcement to suit specific load requirements. CSO chamber Top Formwork and Access Turret Optional reinforced top formwork with access turret with a clear opening to suit chamber cover and frame, welded to the chamber to accept insitu poured concrete cover slab.
