Thickness 4" (100 mm) for Steam, 2 1/2" (38 mm) for condensate. 2.9 Ricwill & Nova Piping Systems.1 Subject to Building Operations approval..2 Specify Ricwill and/or Nova piping systems for direct bury steam and condensate Powder Form Insulations.1 Specify powder form insulations only for repairs, 2" (800 mm) and smaller lines and services to temporary buildings. Dryotherm or equal Finishing Cemember to 450 C.1 CAN/CGSB Applications and Thickness Hot water storage tanks Boilers Breechings Heat exchanger Flash tanks Steam and condensate 2.12 Fastenings.1 Tape shall be self adhesive 100 mm wide..2 Contact adhesive shall be quick-setting..3 Lap seal adhesive shall be quick-setting for joints and lap sealing of vapor barriers..4 Adhesive for canvas shall be washable, for cementing canvas to equipment insulation..5 Steel wire shall be 1.3 mm diameter galvanized annealed..6 Stainless steel wire shall be 1.3 mm diameter, type Steel bands shall be 19 x 0.4 mm stainless steel Jackets.1 Material.1 Canvas where exposed. Insulation to be held in place with light weight mesh. 3.0 APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS 3.1 General.1 Apply insulation after all tests have been completed and approved by Engineer..2 Surface to be clean and dry during installation of insulation and finishes..3 If not specified herein, application to be to manufacturer's recommendations..4 Maintain uninterrupted integrity of vapor barrier..5 Apply half round high density insulation under supports and hangers, extending for 150 either side of hanger/support. 3.2 Installation.1 Install in accordance with ANSI/NFPA 90A and ANSI/NFPA 90B and BCICA Manual..2 Insulation supports where welding or bolting is permitted..1 Angle anchors shall be welded or bolted to equipment at lowest point of insulation. Thereafter, locate every 4.5 m vertically..2 Welded steel clips shall be 200 mm maximum on centers, but not less than 2 rows per side.

6 Page 6 of 6.3 Insulation.1 Multi-layered: staggered butt joints and expansion joints in insulation, secured with wire or bands at 400 mm on centre intervals..4 Expansion Joints in Insulation.1 Leave space in each layer at 7 m intervals..2 Pack space lightly with Type E-1 flexible mineral insulation..5 Insulation at bolts, studs, nuts, and instrumentation shall be beveled to permit removal without damage to insulation or finish..6 Fastenings.1 Secure insulation with stainless steel wire, steel bands at 900 mm on centre before application of finishing cement..7 Vapor barriers shall be adhered and sealed with vapor seal adhesive..8 Finishes.1 Cement: apply over insulation in 2-6 mm thick layers, reinforced by mesh stainless steel wire netting..2 Canvas shall be sewn and pasted on to all insulation and over cement finishes. Seams inconspicuously placed..3 Metal jacket..1 Apply over insulation in lieu of cement finish where specified..2 Apply over all other insulation in lieu of canvas finish where specified..3 Pull up tight. Provide overlap and secure with bands..4 Final surface shall be clean, smooth, and ready for painting. 3.3 Special Requirements.1 Breechings: weld steel clips and/or angle anchors. Stretch mesh stainless steel wire over insulation, anchor to wire or bands. Finish with finishing cement and canvas..2 Diesel generator exhaust piping and muffler shall be insulated and finished as for breeching. Install anti-friction material between muffler and insulation to prevent breakdown of insulation due to vibration. ***END OF SECTION***
