FOUNDATIONS R Vapor Retarder 6 mil poly or approved vapor retarder* lapped 6 placed between the slab and the base course. Exceptions: Unheated accessory structures Unheated storage room <70 sf and carports Flatwork not likely to be enclosed and heated Where approved by the building official IRC 2009 WHAT BUILDERS NEED TO KNOW KEY POINTS OF THE NEW RESIDENTIAL CODE * Visqueen, Polyethelyne Sheeting

WEATHER RESISTANT BARRIER WEATHER RESISTANT BARRIER R703 and Table Weather Resistant Exterior Covering Both wind and water resistance for exterior wall covering systems recognized. R Wind Resistance Wall coverings, backing materials and their attachments shall be capable of resisting wind loads in accordance with Tables R301.2(2) and R301.2(3). R Water Design and construction preventing water intrusion into the wall assembly thru a water-resistant barrier behind exterior veneer and a means for draining water to the exterior (this is not new). Water resistive barrier behind anchored veneer with 1 air space is now mandatory. (brick, concrete, masonry and stone) When determined by design analysis, approved design standards meeting engineering practice used to evaluate the sidings. R and Table Wind: resistance according to Tables R301.2(2) and R301.2(3) and ASTM E330. New fastening requirements for siding to meet manufacturer s recommendations and test reports.

WEATHER RESISTANT BARRIER No water resistant barrier here! IRC says there should be! WEEP HOLES R Weep holes Provided at a maximum spacing of 33 on center. Shall not be less than 3/16 in diameter. Shall be located immediately above the flashing. See Figure R Incorrect Installation

EQUIPMENT SIZING N Equipment Sizing Heating and cooling equipment shall be sized as specified in Section M All buildings must have load calculations performed. M Sizing HVAC system sized according to ACCA Manual S based on load calculations from ACCA Manual J (Version 8 is the latest version) LIGHTING SYSTEMS N1104 Lighting Systems (addition) 50% of permanently installed lighting fixtures required to be CFLs or other high-efficacy lamps. Comment: Can or recessed lighting are exempt in Oklahoma.

ATTIC ACCESS HATCHES N Ceiling and Access Hatch Insulation Requirements (clarification) Access doors to unconditioned space will be weatherstripped and insulated to same R-value as the ceiling. Insulation baffle installed at edges to prevent spilling into the living space and maintain the installed R-value. ATTIC RULERS N Blown or Sprayed Roof/Ceiling Insulation Markers installed 1 for every 300sf with numbers at least 1 tall to help determine the depth of the installed insulation. Stickers must face the attic access opening.

ATTIC VENTILATION All Cavities in attic to be ventilated AIR BARRIER INSPECTION Table N Air Barrier and Insulation Inspection

ENERGY CODE COMPLIANCE METHODS THREE ENERGY COMPLIANCE METHODS 1. PERSCRIPTIVE

ENERGY CODE COMPLIANCE METHODS THREE ENERGY COMPLIANCE METHODS ENERGY CODE COMPLIANCE METHODS Comment: U-factor = 1/R. Windows rated by U-factor. 2. U-FACTOR AND UA ALTERNATIVES U-factor from Table N shall be allowed instead of the R-values from Table N Insulation rated by R-factor

ENERGY CODE COMPLIANCE METHODS THREE ENERGY COMPLIANCE METHODS 3. PERFORMANCE N Testing option. Tested air leakage is less than 7 ACH when tested with a blower door at a pressure of 50 pascals (0.007 psi). Testing shall occur after rough in and after installation of penetrations of the building envelope, including penetrations for utilities, plumbing, electrical, ventilation and combustion appliances. BRACING DIAGRAMS Bracing Diagrams to appear on plans R Information on construction documents. Construction documents shall be drawn upon suitable material. Electronic media documents are permitted to be submitted when approved by the building official. Construction documents shall be of sufficient clarity to indicate the location, nature and extent of the work proposed and show in detail that it will conform to the provisions of this code and relevant laws, ordinances, rules and regulations, as determined by the building official. Where required by the building official, all braced wall lines, shall be identified on the construction documents and all pertinent information including, but not limited to, bracing methods, location and length of braced wall panels, foundation requirements of braced wall panels at top and bottom shall be provided.
