Approve the Minutes From August 13, Consideration of a Letter of Design Approval for the Two Projecting Signs for Alkey s, located at 165 West Main Street, as Requested by Dainel Bourlon, of Fastsigns Northeast Dallas, on Behalf of John Young, the Business Owner. 4. Adjournment. NOTICE OF ASSISTANCE AT THE PUBLIC MEETINGS The Lewisville City Hall & Community Development Conference Room are wheelchair accessible. Access to the building and special parking are available at the front entrance along Church Street. 2 Minutes Old Town Design Review Committee August 13, 2018 Item 1: The Old Town Design Review Committee was called to order at 4:10 p.m. with the following members present: Erum Ali, Jack Miller, and Jack Tidwell. Members Amanda Ferguson and Sharon Ellis were absent. Staff present: Michele Berry, Planning Manager; Jonathan Beckham, Planner; Stephanie Grigsby, Residential Plans Examiner. Item 2: The second item on the agenda was the approval of the minutes from the July 23, 2018 meeting. A motion was made by Erum Ali and seconded by Jack Miller to approve the minutes. The motion passed unanimously (3-0). Item 3: Consideration of a Letter of Design Approval for the Exterior Lighting and Six Multi-Tenant Wall Signs for the Awesome Center located at 251 South Mill Street, as Requested by Henry Rahmani, the Applicant, on Behalf of CADG Mill Street LLC and HAT Group LLC, the Property Owner. Staff gave a brief overview of the exterior modifications. Both the applicant and property owner were present and available to answer questions. The Committee asked for more details on the signage such as color and border and whether the tenants were confirmed. Discussion was held on fonts that would match the character of Old Town. A motion was made by Erum Ali and seconded by Jack Miller to approve the exterior lighting as presented with the option for the bronze finish and to approve the six multi-tenant wall signs with a dark brown fiber cement board insert and the condition that the Awesome Center building marker sign use a bold quatum font. The motion passed unanimously (3-0). 3 STAFF REPORT TO: FROM: Old Town Design Review Committee Jonathan Beckham, Planner MEETING August 27, 2018 SUBJECT: Consideration of a Letter of Design Approval for the Two Projecting Signs for Alkey s, located at 165 West Main Street, as Requested by Dainel Bourlon, of Fastsigns Northeast Dallas, on Behalf of John Young, the Business Owner. BACKGROUND Alkey s is a new restaurant and bar proposed to be located at 165 West Main Street. The applicant is seeking approval for two projecting signs, one located on the front façade of the building and one located at the rear facing Wayne Ferguson Plaza. ANALYSIS Front Projecting Sign The proposed front projecting sign will be eight feet tall with neon. The sign will be centered on the parapet wall above the existing awning. The design will prominently feature the word displayed horizontally in yellow neon lights. The words Lounge & Eatery will be positioned on the lower end of the sign in white neon lights with a neon-illuminated martini glass. Blue neon lights frame the. The design of the sign will be mirrored on both sides. The sign edge will have the words Alkey s with a martini graphic in acrylic/vinyl. This portion of the sign will not be lit. The proposed sign conforms with the Old Town projecting sign requirements. Rear Projecting Sign The proposed rear projecting sign will similarly feature the word in a horizontal orientation, illuminated with blue neon lights and outlined in red neon lights. This design is mirrored on both sides. Below this the words EATERY and LOUNGE are featured on a roughly 45 degree angle in white neon light, outlined in blue neon lights. The applicant has provided two proposed locations for the rear sign: one above the rear entrance, and one on the top west corner of the building. The proposed sign conforms with the Old Town projecting sign requirements. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the Old Town Design Review Committee consider a letter of design approval for the two proposed projecting wall signs as presented.
