5 CUSTOM PANEL MATERIALS AND SPECIFICATIONS CUSTOM PANEL MATERIALS AND SPECIFICATIONS Made to order Custom Panels may be created from Acrylic, Aluminum, and Plastic Laminate materials. Custom Panels are available in sizes up to 24 W x 36 L with multi-panel ganged machined operations providing scaled economies and the lowest panel cost. ACE can provide a complete professional finished panel resource for all your custom panel design installation needs. CNC ROTARY PANEL ROUTING MACHINE ACRYLIC SHEET Acrylic sheet stock is an excellent panel material. At 3/16 thick it is very flat and ridged, ideal for mounting large multi-pin connectors that require a heavy push/pull for engagement. It provides electrical isolation for connectors with grounded shells typical of many audio and video applications. This acrylic has a glossy black finish which is easily engraved and back filled with white acrylic paint for an up scale hi-tech appearance. Alternately, use the acrylic panel as a sub-panel and engrave a plastic laminant over lay panel for nomenclature call outs. ALUMINUM ALLOY SHEET Aluminum alloy sheet stock can be cut, black powder coated and engraved for almost any panel requirement. This alloy (6061-T6) is very ridged and flat. Stocked in 1/16 and 1/8 thickness. Smaller panels are typically made from 1/16 aluminum. Larger panels (e.g. rack panels) are cut from 1/8 aluminum. Other thickness are available on a custom order basis. Currently the connectrix system pocket panels, rack panels, and wall panels are fabricated from this tough aluminum alloy (see pgs 20 & 25). ACRYLIC AND PLASTIC LAMINATE OVERLAY PANEL EXAMPLE PLASTIC LAMINANT SHEET Plastic Laminant sheet stock is used for engraved over lay panel. This material is 1/16 thick and provides an opaque engraveable laminated surface over a contrasting sub-surface (e.g. black over white). For example, when using a standard high density cutout panel, (connectrix #PNL1425, pg. 22) where some cutouts are not populated, an over lay panel can be cut and engraved showing only the positions used and covering unused positions. Many colors and combinations of front and reverse engraveable stock are available on request. Other uses include signs, operating instructions, block diagrams etc. for a permanent professional presentation on any project. A B C In this custom example the Plastic Laminate Overlay Panel (A) is routed and engraved to match the Acrylic Sub Panel (B) which is loaded with custom audio, data, electrical, and video connectors. The Acrylic Sub Panel provides electrical isolation for connectors with grounded shells. The 2 panels are then combined (C) and are ready for installation and wiring. 6 CUSTOM SPEC PANEL FABRICATION AND ENGRAVING CUSTOM SPEC PANEL FABRICATION AND ENGRAVING FACILIS Your panel will be made to the exact agreed specification and delivered on time. Panels are precision cut and engraved to your exact specifications from a variety of materials on precision CNC rotary cutting machines. Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) systems feed data to the machines that define your panel cuts accurate ±.001. Panels and parts with identical material requirements are ganged together into a single production run. Acrylic, aluminum, and plastic laminate material panels are completely cut and engraved in the single set-up and production run for the fastest turn around time possible. The Aluminum panels, after cutting, are prepared for powder coating and thereafter sent to the engraving router. Lead times are generally much shorter for acrylic and plastic laminate because they are completed in the single fabrication event, and no further surface finishing is required. Aluminum requires additional time to powder coat and engrave. Cut, engraved, back filled and painted panel blanks are sent to the assembly bench and populated with the specified connectors, switches, nutserts etc. The final completed panel is carefully inspected and checked twice before packaging for shipment.
