2 Introduction Verosol is a leading provider of energy-saving solar shading solutions. These solutions enhance the internal environment, by reducing heat gain controlling glare and still preserving a view through. Verosol s expertise is used to reduce energy costs and subsequent CO 2 emissions for the benefit of end-users, building owners, as well as the wider society. Specification Service The ultimate performance benefits of any shading system depend on a number of factors such as the: geographical location of the building facade orientation type and size of glazing heating and cooling regimes use of space within the building Verosol specification experts welcome the opportunity to offer advice on the best solution based on your requirements. Verosol can also provide indicative energy saving benefits of proposed solutions using a clever energy saving calculator which uses independently verified performance data of glazing and blind fabrics. Extensive laboratory facilities allow Verosol to provide material testing and comparative analysis. These services are provided without cost exclusively for specifiers. 3 Verosol Verosol have an extensive fabric and hardware range to suit all types of commercial applications. The combination of systems and fabrics and Verosol s technical expertise provides solutions which: Reduce energy consumption and costs Reduce CO 2 emissions Assist with regulatory compliance Effectively control glare Still permit a view through Allow fabric colours to be chosen for style not because they affect performance Provide a range of transparency levels Preserve elevational consistency Offer a range of blind styles Provide a range of operation methods Offer independently proven and accredited fabrics Have a proven pedigree and global application s By controlling heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter By reducing energy needed to heat and cool the building By providing effective solar control By controlling the amount and the quality of light entering the building By reducing light transmission Whereby the metallised backing means that the performance of the fabric is not colour dependent Which allows for different elevations or areas to receive appropriate shading and glare control Whereby the reverse of the fabrics are similar irrespective of colour or transparency Suitable for all commercial applications From manual to electric to automatic By ensuring that all performance data is independently verified As for the last three decades Verosol fabrics have been used on projects around the world Introduction 2 Verosol Project References 5 Range 6 QS s QS.0 Standard QS.1 Standard FX QS.2 Cassette QS. 4 View and metallised fabric The possibility of looking through fabric (through the minimal holes ) is determined on one hand by the openness of the weave and on the other by the quantity of light which permeates through the thread. This latter is called diffuse light. For good vision contact through the fabric, too much diffuse light must be prevented from permeating the fabric. This is because the eyes adapt to the total yield of light. Too much diffuse light means that vision contact is thus limited. Verosol offers you the solution for this - metallised fabric ensures an optimum reduction in the quantity of diffuse light. Glare and fabric colour Glare is determined to a significant degree by the total light transmission through windows and blinds. Light transmission which is too high leads to eyestrain particularly with computer users. Although many monitor screens have good non-reflective qualities, it continues to be important to limit the luminance ratio. If this is not done, then the eyes must continually adjust to the changing light levels. Correct light transmissions are often achieved by working with dark or thickly-coated materials. Whilst dark coloured materials with a low openness factor may offer some visual contact, they have a major disadvantage when it comes to energy saving or thermal comfort. Thickly coated materials are not suitable in terms of visual contact with the outside world, nor for the harvesting of natural light. Verosol s metallised fabrics are the optimum solution - mitigating discomfort from glare whilst preserving visual contact with the outside world. See a video demonstration here Reflection: energy saving Good interior solar shading reflects back much of the sunlight through the glass to the outside. As long as the sun s rays have not generated a warming effect, the reflection also ensures that the relevant space is only minimally warmed, or not at all. Typically this cannot be achieved with traditional interior sun shading. This absorbs too much of the sun s rays so that the reflective effect is extremely minimal. Here, too, Verosol has the answer. As well as optimum contact with the outside world, Verosol s metallised fabrics have excellent reflective properties. Even with reflective glass the heat ingress through solar gain can be at least halved, whereas with conventional shading a heat trap is built up between the glazing and the blind. It is important to note that Verosol s metallised fabric reflects the sun s rays with a diffuse effect, so that from the outside the building s glazing does not appear reflective. Thermal comfort of coloured products versus metallised fabrics An extremely warm surface is produced if sunlight is absorbed by the interior solar shading. Much of this warmth is then passed on in the form of infrared radiation. People in the vicinity of the product experience this radiation and can become uncomfortable. For good visual comfort the brightness screening must only have a limited light transmission and typically this is achieved with darkcoloured materials, but their major disadvantage is that they absorb and re-radiate heat. With metallised fabrics the glare is controlled but the radiant heat is also controlled due to the reflective properties of the fabric - irrespective of the colour chosen. 26 Accreditations Since 1 all Verosol products have been awarded with the Öko-Tex Standard 0, meaning that they are free from harmful substances and contribute positively to our well-being. All Verosol products have low VOC emissions and therefore do not affect indoor air quality. Öko-Tex can be seen as the European equivalent of US Greenguard. (Accreditation opposite is for Originals. Test No. for SilverScreen = and for EnviroScreen = ). For many years Verosol has held an ISO 001 certificate for its quality management system. Verosol use this internationally recognised standard to monitor and improve product quality and service levels. Verosol also have an Environment Management which has been accredited to the International Standard ISO As part of this accreditation Verosol set objectives and targets for implementing internal improvements to reduce the environmental impact of the organisation. The Good Environmental Choice Label is the only environmental labelling programme in Australia which indicates the performance of a product from a whole product life perspective. The accreditation is awarded to products that meet environmental performance standards which have been created and assessed in conformance to internationally recognised labelling standards. In 200 Verosol SilverScreen fabric for roller blinds achieved an independent ultra-low VOC certification from CETEC. Awarded by the Green Building Council of Australia, SilverScreen emission levels were just of < 0.5 mg/m2/hr ( days) showing that SilverScreen contributes to a healthy and safe office environment. Verosol is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This is a non-profit making organisation committed to expanding sustainable building practices. Their mission is to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life. The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute is an industry-independent, non-profit organisation that oversees the GREENGUARD Certification Program. GEI establishes acceptable indoor air standards for indoor products, environments, and buildings. GEI s mission is to improve public health and quality of life through programs that improve indoor air.
