6 D E S I G N C R I T E R I A A N D T E C H N I C A L DATA DESIGN CRITERIA w w w c o m s a b - u s a c o m 6 MATERIALS Stee deck meets the requirements of ASTM A653 Standard Specification of Stee Sheet, Zinc-coated (Gavanized) by the Hot-dip Process, Structura (Physica) Quaity The guaranteed minimum yied strength is 50 ksi with a minimum zinc coating 2 mass of 275 g/m Z 275 (G90) tota both sides Stee deck base thickness is inches or inches Reinforcing stee meets the requirements of ASTM A615 GR60 Guaranteed minimum yied strength is 580 ksi The cear distance of each reinforcing bar from the bottom of the stee deck is 157 inches Concrete is assumed to have a minimum cyinder strength of 435 ksi, with a maximum aggregate size of 075 inches 3 Norma density structura concrete is (150 b/ft ) ALLOWABLE STRESS DESIGN (ASD) Strength Aowabe stress design principes were used in the deveopment of the structura oad tabes, ie, the factored resistance under consideration, ΦR the effect of the factored oads This is in accordance with the Internationa Buiding Code Since the sef weight of the stee deck and the concrete have aready been incuded in the structura oad tabes, the maximum specified oad (from the appropriate structura tabe) sha be: >(LL + 12/16DL), where: LL Specified ive oad DL Specified superimposed dead oad 12 Dead oad factor 16 Live oad factor Serviceabiity If defection contros, the maximum specified oad (from the appropriate structura tabe) sha be: (LL + DL) SECTION PROPERTIES OF STEEL DECK A structura section properties of the stee deck were cacuated in accordance with AISI S See page 5 for section properties and cross section detais STRUCTURAL LOAD TABLES Structura oad tabes provide maximum specified oads and were estabished in accordance with ANSI/SDI C-2011 and ACI Shoring During Construction Shoring requirements for the stee deck during construction were estabished in accordance with ACI The foowing strength and defection criteria were used: Strength Cacuations were based on the combined oads due to the wet concrete, the stee deck and certain construction ive oads Minimum construction ive oads appied separatey are: 1) 20 psf uniform oad 2) 137 b/ft transverse ine oad at the centre of the span Serviceabiity Cacuated defections were based on the uniform oad of concrete sab and stee deck, and the maximum defections were imited to L/180 or 0787 inches Load Tabes Both the strength and defection criteria were considered in accordance with ANSI/SDI C-2011, as foows: Strength Fexure was the ony criteria that was considered in the cacuations since shear-bond is not a mode of faiure (specified concentrated ive oad was incuded in the strength cacuations) Serviceabiity The cacuated defections due to specified superimposed oads (LL + DL) were based on a uniform oad with the maximum defection imited to L/360 The moduar ratio for norma density concrete was taken as 10 and the moment of inertia is the average of the uncracked and cracked moment of inertias For use of the defection parameter, DP, see exampe on page 7 To determine the defection due to the sab weight, aso see page 7 Use of Load Tabes Pease see exampe on page 7 for use of structura tabes STRUCTURAL TESTING In each structura oad tabe, the maximum unshored span conditions are given Using this information, one can determine the number of shores required for any given span condition Structura ComSab composite sab tests were carried out at the University of Saford, Engand by Prof D O Leary (Apri, 1993) Based on these tests, shear-bond was not a mode of faiure Typicay, composite sab systems fai in shear-bond However, since the ComSab composite sab system aso has reinforcing stee, shear-bond is not a governing faiure mode

14 C O N S T R U C T I O N A N D I N S TA L L AT I O N G U I D E L I N E S DECKING INSTALLATION PERIMETER TRIMS Are required for the retention of wet concrete to the correct eve at the decked foor perimeters and designed openings They are suppied in 10 foot engths of gavanized stee Perimeter Trims are usuay fastened by shot-fired pins to the structura stee or by sef-driing fasteners to the support structure at 24 inches on center, or as specified by the engineer of record RESTRAINT STRAPS The top of the perimeter edge trim is connected to the decking with Restraint Straps at approximatey 16 inches on centre using either pop rivets or sef-driing fasteners The Restraint Strap can be adjusted to suit the pitch and aignment of the perimeter edge trim w w w c o m s a b - u s a c o m RIB REINFORCEMENT AND MESH PLACEMENT The ComSab design requires that one stee reinforcing bar be paced in each rib profie The bar size, as shown in the oad tabes, can vary from 0394 inches to 138 inches in diameter The bars sha be paced on Rebar Supports which ensure a spacing of 157 inches from the bottom fange to the underside of the reinforcing bars Spacing of the Rebar Supports sha be in accordance with good practice guideines, and not exceeding 48 inches on center To ensure both vertica and horizonta stabiity during concrete pacement, the reinforcing bars sha be tied down periodicay through the Side-ap Washers with inch diameter tie wiring It is recommended that a minimum standard shrinkage and temperature reinforcing mesh of 6x6x6/6 be paced above the top of the stee decking and positioned towards the top of the sab, or as specified by the engineer of record 14 TEMPORARY SUPPORTS When the design span exceeds the maximum unshored span shown in the oad tabes, the wet concrete weight and construction oads sha be supported by adding temporary supports (shoring), as designed by the engineer of record Where temporary supports are required, it is important that: Beams and the support structure have adequate strength to support the construction oads as designed and specified by the engineer of record Shoring is normay paced at midspan or at other suitabe intervas, as required Shoring beams sha provide a minimum bearing width of 4 inches The shoring structure sha remain in pace unti the concrete has reached 75% of its design strength, or as specified by the engineer of record CONCRETE PLACEMENT Concrete sha be paced in accordance with ACI Before starting concrete pacement, stee decking sha be ceared of dirt, grease and debris, which coud adversey infuence the composite sab performance Care sha be taken to avoid concrete heaping in any area during concrete pacement Typica construction ive oads have been accounted for in the oad tabes Shoud additiona construction oading be required, approva by the engineer of record is required
