Our Inspiration We develop our design concept for our project through research on Energy Star homes. Three mesmerizing works by architects from around the U.S. serve as our inspiration. Design Process bcworkshop emphasis affordability and efficiency Studio Gang focus on exterior design Daniel Libeskind explore natural lighting Daniel Libeskind: The Villa Studio Gang Architects: Brick Weave House bcworkshop: Rapido 2.0

Affordability and Efficiency The bcworkshop Rapido 2.0 project s main goals are the affordability and the efficiency of the home. Motivated by their work, we created a list of Eco friendly materials that are cost efficient, yet sustainable. Closed cell spray foaming Cedar wood framing Aluminum roofing Bam-boo flooring Cedar wood siding finish Cedar wood siding Structural wood framing Bamboo Flooring Closed cell spray foaming Aluminum roofing

Material Specs Structural wood framing Cedar wood siding Pricing Cedar wood framing-$4,000 Bamboo flooring-$1,000 Aluminum roofing-$5,000 Cedar wood siding finish-$3,000 Closed cell spray foaming-$4,000 Other expenses-$13,000 Estimated-$30,000 Structural wood framing Bamboo flooring Closed cell spray foaming

Aluminum roof sheets Bamboo flooring Cedar wood siding Material Specs (continue) Our finish is simplistic and good enough for letting moisture thru the gaps of the siding. Therefore preventing mold and termite build on the cedar infrastructure. The reason we will be using Closed cell spray foaming in the attic is because it has a higher R value. It can also mold on to the framing giving it an air tight fit. Cedar wood is strong durable and very accessible. Bamboo is abounded and resistant to moisture which leads to no termites. Our aluminum roof is resistant to whether conditions and resistant against rust for 25 years. It is also 75% recycled aluminum from cans and such Etc. The bottom portion of the house will be fitted with Blow in cellulose insulation. Structural Framing Closed cell spray foaming

Brick weaving Window patterns Wood shading devices Exterior House Design In their design for the Brick Weave House, Studio Gang Architects incorporated patterned brick wall as a shading device. This exterior finish serves as heating/cooling enhancement device. This made the house perform its efficiency to its highest level. Window roof overhangs

Final Touch In The Villa Daniel Libeskind spoke about natural lighting of the home. He completed this task by placing windows in a certain way to input sun light in the house. This made the house 2x as more efficient than leading homes. Interior living room Right side of the Villa in the noon Front of the Villa in the morning Front of the Villa in the evening

Our Design

Our Design Our design concept evolve around efficiency, comfortable-ability and innovation.

Efficiency The house is oriented to take advantage of the summer South-East breeze to help cool the main terrace, while the carport is located at the North-West side, with no openings into the house, to protect it from the winter wind.

Efficiency Natural lighting is also incorporated through large opening on the North, south, and East side of the house. Meanwhile, no openings are located on the West side to eliminate undesired heat into the house. In addition, we placed trees and vertical wood trellis as a shading device on the east side of the house.

Efficiency The roof expand above the North front porch, and the east side terrace, as well as the car-port on the north west corner. The one side angled rectangular form of roof serve as unifying element, while protecting the outdoor spaces the house.

Comfortable On the interior, the public realm of the house (living, dinning, and kitchen) are integrated as one open-flow space, which allow for fixable adaptation of the space. Meanwhile, the private realm (bedrooms) are located into the back of the house for privacy.

Comfortable A major feature of our design are the front porch and side terrace located on the east side of the house. The front porch serve as welcoming transitional space between the living space and outside, while the east terrace function as additional social space that is connected directly with the interior through sliding doors. In addition, the east terrace act as connection between the front and backyard of the house, allowing for visual and physical accessibility between the two spaces.
