All carrying truss repair steel (Sheets S36-S46), shall be considered non-redundant main load The East Leaf north and south carrying truss members as shown on Sheets S04-S35 are fabricated and will be delivered under a separate contract. Carrying truss members AA2, AA3, AA4, AA5, AA6, AA7 are assembled. The shop bolts are not fully Before, during, and after jacking the Trunnion Girder and CTA column, the structure shall be monitored via survey and the shoring systems inspected in accordance with the Special Provisions "Jacking Operations, Trunnion Girder" and "Jacking Operations, CTA Column". carrying elements subject to tensile stresses requiring conformance to fracture critical material requirements, FCM, unless noted otherwise. All carrying truss repair steel shall meet Notch Toughness Requirements of the AASHTO/AWS Fracture Control Plan (FCP). torqued. All gusset plates A are loose. It shall be the Contractor's responsibility to inspect the fabricated material prior to erection, coordinate delivery of the structural steel with the fabricator, and unload and store the material at the jobsite. Any disassembly required for placement of the steel into the pit shall be the responsibility of the Contractor. The trunnion girder shoring system may be unloaded and moved as required to allow for partial opening of the bridge for material delivery into the pit. The trunnion girder shoring system shall be reinstalled and re-loaded to 240 kips prior to reopening the bridge to vehicular, pedestrian, and CTA traffic. The Contractor shall be responsible for erection of all structural steel, including the carrying truss members. The Contractor is solely responsible for final detailing, and will not be paid extra for any field adjustments or modifications required to accomplish proper installation. Any disassembly of the previously fabricated carrying truss members as required for erection is the responsibility of the Contractor. 7. After completion of the structural steel repairs, the existing trunnion girder shoring system shall be unloaded, disassembled, and transported to a CDOT facility in accordance with the Special Provision "Dismantling Shoring System, Trunnion Girder". 8. After completion of the structural steel repairs, the CTA column shoring system shall remain loaded and in-place. SUGGESTED CARRYING TRUSS DEMOLITION AND ERECTION PROCEDURE. The procedure outlined below is a suggestion. The Contractor shall provide a demolition and erection procedure stamped by a Structural Engineer registered in the State of Illinois for review by the commissioner prior to any demolition on the carrying truss. The carrying truss shall be braced to prevent lateral movement at gusset plate A during The Contractor shall note that bolts are used in place of original rivets. It is anticipated that this change may cause some interferences and erection conflicts for bolt installation. The Contractor and the Fabricator shall review the drawings for such conflicts in detail and bring them to the attention of the Commissioner for resolution prior to fabrication. Likewise, the Contractor shall verify the fit and clearance of all new components that connect to existing or replaced sections of the structure. Where interferences occur, the Contractor shall use clipped washers, trim the edge of interfering member or install countersunk bolts as possible mitigating solutions. All modifications must be approved by the Commissioner prior to implementation. The Contractor is responsible for proper fitting and assembly of all parts of the proposed work. Plan dimensions and details relative to the existing structure have been taken from existing plans and are subject to nominal construction variations. The Contractor shall field verify existing dimensions and details affecting new construction and make necessary approved adjustments prior to construction or ordering material. Such variations shall not be cause for additional compensation for a change in the scope of the work. However, the Contractor will be paid for the quantity actually furnished at the unit price for the work. The Contractor shall be responsible for the fabrication and procurement of all structural steel not shown on Sheets S04-S3 CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE NOTES. Some of the work in this contract is in close proximity to existing utilities. Relocation of any utilities shall not be permitted. demolition and erection. Remove and replace one half (north or south) of members AA2, AA3, AA4, and AA7. The same half of all members should be removed. Remove and replace members AA6 and AA5 in one piece. Only one member per carrying truss shall be removed and replaced at any time. Remove and replace the A gusset plate corresponding to the side of the carrying truss replaced in Step 0. The location and diameter of the holes in new connecting material must match holes in the existing structure. Bolt and rivet spacings and sizes must be verified in the field by the Contractor prior to ordering material for fabrication. Holes in the existing structure may be enlarged only as approved by the Commissioner and in accordance with the Special Provisions "Erect Structural Steel" or "Furnish and Erect Structural Steel". Holes may be sub-punched or sub-drilled in the new material and field reamed to match existing holes provided the sub-hole is fully contained in the outline of the reamed hole. Final holes must be round and may not be oversized. The cost of this work shall be considered incidental to the pay item to which it pertains. Existing trunnion girder shoring system has been installed and loaded to 240 kips on both the north and south towers under a separate contract. Remove and replace the remaining half of carrying truss members AA2, AA3, AA4, and AA7. Only one member per carrying truss may be removed and replaced at any time.. All contact surfaces on new and existing steel, including connection bolts, nuts, and washers, shall be free of scale, burrs, dirt, or other foreign material, oil, previously applied paint, lacquer, or Remove and replace the remaining A gusset plate. other coatings that would prevent solid seating of the connecting parts. Trunnion girder reinforcement (Sheets S200-S209) shall be completed prior to jacking the existing trunnion girder shoring system or the CTA column shoring system. 7.
