1 VSW65 BeyondLiftSlide / SwingSlide Introduction VSW65 - BeyondLiftSlide The VSW65 BeyondLiftSlide is a wood-framed, individual panel sliding door system that makes large glass openings possible. With its single track, the custom system provides a clean line for a seamless transition from inside to outside. The VSW65 is easy to operate and can be designed to slide into a pocket. For years, architects have been trying to design projects with large glass walls that completely disappear when open a seamless transition from inside to outside that is also weather-resistant and easy to operate. Past solutions have had multiple tracks with thick wall requirements, were difficult to operate (since multiple panels were hooked together) and had limited weather resistance. The VSW65 addresses all these issues. The VSW65 is a multi-panel, single track sliding system with large glass walls that easily glide open and close, Closed panels lock end to end for an energy efficient seal and streamlined appearance. Each system is custom designed to the size and number of panels needed, and can have an almost unlimited number of panels. When open, the panels can be stored in a number of possible ways. Design Benefits: Creates a very large opening that gives a sense of more space Panels stack in a pocket outside the plane of the opening or hang unobtrusively to the side. This means the panels can be moved out of sight. All panels are in the same plane in a single track. This eliminates the need for bulky multi-tracks and thick walls for holding the tracks. Also possible to have panels acting as swing panels that can completely disappear in a pocket Slim sills, concealed hardware, and doors aligned edge-toedge mean clean lines and maximum view Sliding panels glide easily on a single head track Available with one or more single acting operable doors The VSW65 has been rated, certified and labeled in accordance with NFRC 100 and 200; see the Performance and Testing Results section for more details. Engineering Benefits: The wall can be very easily moved since each panel is moved independently and is not hooked to other panels The main weight is borne by the top track, which ensures smooth operation even when there is some dirt or debris in the bottom track Quiet and rattle-resistant operation because of sealed, ball bearing multi-roller running carriages Long-term ease of use with compensation and adjustment features High performance levels for air infiltration, water penetration, structural & thermal performance and forced entry Sustainable design features: energy efficiency, natural day lighting and passive ventilation Special Features of Nanawall VSW65 System Multitude of Stacking Possibilities - Including Pocket Options The panels can be stacked in a number of ways when the unit is opened; see Possible Stacking Options. The tracks can be laid out beyond the frame in a variety of configurations. Design Flexibility Custom sizes of frame heights up to 10 (3050 mm) and panel widths up to 5 (1525 mm) are possible. There is a variety of glazing choices (single glass, insulated glass, laminated glass, etc.), and a large selection of muntin layouts (horizontal mullions, SDLs, solid panels, higher bottom rails, etc.). VSW65 - SwingSlide (see Configurations 7 and 7A on page 5) The NanaWall VSW65 SwingSlide looks like a normal pair of French doors with fixed sidelights. The center swing doors provide all the functional and aesthetic benefits of French doors. The NanaWall advantage, though, is that the pair of single acting operable doors and the sidelights can also slide away to create unobstructed openings up to fourteen feet wide. Design Benefits Symmetrical center swing doors Flexibility of large opening glass walls Panels can stack unobtrusively to the side or out of sight in a pocket when open All panels are in the same plane in a single track Narrow stiles and rails maximize the glass area Hinges, sliding and multi-point locking hardware are concealed and integrated into the profiles Each system is a custom designed to the size needed. The maximum sliding panel width is 4 (1220 mm) and the maximum swing panel width is 3 3 (1000 mm). The maximum unit height is 10 (3050 mm) SPECIFICATIONS AND DETAILS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE NanaWall Systems 1

2 Technical Description VSW65 BeyondLiftSlide / SwingSlide General Description The VSW65 is a Single Track Multi-panel Wood Framed Slider System, designed to provide a large opening glass wall or storefront with any custom panel size; see Maximum Size Chart. A panel adjacent to a sliding panel can be a swing panel that can also slide away with the sliding panels on an end panel attached to a side jamb. Swing panels are single acting but can be either inward or outward opening; see details in the cross-section drawings. Possible configurations and stacking bay options are many; see drawings for possibilities. Frame, Tracks & Stacking Bays The head jamb is extruded aluminum. The nominal head jamb thickness is 3 9/16 (90 mm) and the nominal side jamb thickness is 2 5/8 (66 mm). Various sill options are available. The tracks can be laid out in a variety of configurations. Various stacking layouts are available as suggested in the drawings. Pocket stacking options are also available. Panels Stiles and rails of panels are cross grained, triple laminated, solid wood with interlocking tongue-and-groove profiles; see cross-section drawings. The nominal panel thickness is 2 5/8 (66 mm). Standard woods are European pine, meranti or douglas fir. Other selected woods are also available. Frames and panels have a sanding sealer or a base coat applied to be field finished by others. Panels are pre-assembled; see Wood Finish Options in the General Introduction. Glazing Glazed units can be supplied with 15/16 (24 mm) insulating Low E tempered glass, clear insulating tempered, 1/4 (6 mm) single tempered or laminated, other high performing safety glass such as Heat Mirror, acoustic, special tint, etc. or other glass on request. A large selection of muntin layouts with mullions, solid panels, higher bottom rails, etc. is available. For a sliding panel with a swing panel hinged to it there is concealed locking on the edge of the panel to secure the swing panel. If there is a swing panel, there are the following additional hardware option on the primary swing panel(s). 1. Multi-point Locking. Consisting of lever handles on both sides, a Schlage compatible lockset, lockable latch, deadbolt and rods at the top and the bottom. Depression of handles withdraws latch, lifting of handles engages rods and turn of key or thumbturn engages deadbolt and locks. For a unit with a secondary inactive swing panel, available are matching dummy lever handles on both sides and a concealed flush bolt that operates the rods at the top and the bottom. 2. Deadbolt Lock. ADA approved pull handles on both sides with deadbolt(s) operated by a lockset. Turn of key or thumb turn operates lock. Lockset option of having key operation on both sides. To keep the panel closed, a door closer should be field installed, but please note that a door closer can only be installed for a swing panel that is attached to the side jamb. 3. No Hardware. For panic hardware to be installed by others, the main entry panel can be supplied with no locking hardware. Handle finish schemes: Standard-Stainless steel lever and flat handles in brushed satin or black titanium finish. Optional-Brass lever handles in oil rubbed or satin nickel and flat handles powdercoated dark brown or silver gray. Push/pull handles are available in dark brown or gray nylon finish. Weatherstripping Weatherstripping, consisting of EPDM or brush seals, is provided for effective seals between panels and between panels and frames. Sliding & Swinging Hardware Attached to the upper corners of each panel are load-bearing, stainless steel unidirectional carriers with two rollers each. Each roller has sealed bearings and is coated with toughened Polyimide to ensure quiet running and optimal resistance to extreme temperature. Locking Hardware and Handle Options On all swing panels and on sliding panels as needed, a two point locking hardware is provided, consisting of top and bottom locking rods operated by a 180 turn of a flat handle on the inside only or concealed flush bolt. On most sliding panels, the top rod interlocks the male locking receptacle with the female receptacle of the adjacent panel. The lower rod is thrown into the sill or striker plate NanaWall Systems SPECIFICATIONS AND DETAILS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.

Similar structural support is needed for the stacking bay(s) and any upper track leading to it. Structural support for lateral loads such as wind load must be provided. It is recommended that all building dead loads be applied to the header prior to installing the NanaWall. If so and if a reasonable amount of time has been allowed for the effect of this dead load on the header, then only the building s live load can be used to meet the above requirements of L/720 or 1/4 (6 mm). If not, both the dead and live loads need to be considered. B. Examine surfaces of openings and verify dimensions; verify rough openings are level, plumb, and square, with no unevenness, bowing, or bumps on the floor. C. Installation of units constitutes acceptance of existing conditions INSTALLATION A. Install frame by qualified installer in accordance with manufacturer s recommendations and installation instructions.
