Properties SMP adhesives General properties Skin formation Skin formation time is the time between applying the bead and the elastic skin formation on top of the adhesive or sealant Skin formation can be brittle. So the open time of an adhesive or sealant can be slightly longer than the skin forming time To have a high and durable bonding application the two materials needs to be pressed together within the skin formation time. This info can be find on the TDS belonging to the product. page 4

Properties SMP adhesives General properties Open time The open time of an adhesive or sealant is the maximum time in with the bonding or sealing application has to be carried out High quality and durable sealing of bonding application: To have a high and durable bonding application the two materials need to be pressed together within the open time of the adhesive. A high and durable sealing needs to be finished before skin formation starts. You can find this information on the TDS of the product in use page 5

Working with SMP products Why a triangle bead To create the best wetting on both materials surfaces To have no air in closers in the adhesive bead To avoid high pressure needed during the bonding application To create the longest open time To avoid skin forming in the adhesion zone of the bond line page 19

Working with SMP products Recommended triangle bead sizes 16mm 20 mm 4 mm 10 mm 25 mm To have a high-quality and durable bonding application, Bostik advises to create a triangle bead that is 5 times as high as the thickness of the final adhesive layer The width of the of the triangle needs to be around 50% of the final width of the bond For example: we need an adhesive layer of 25 mm wide and 4 mm high Bostik advises a triangle bead of 20 mm high and 10 mm wide page 20

Working with SMP products How to open Simson ISR packaging Use a sharp cutting knife and don t damage the thread of the top of the cartridge. Damage can cause leakage or can create a bad connection of the nozzle during the application (air pressure or hand pressure) Use a wire cutter and cut the sausage directly behind the clip damaging of the foil can create leakage in the sausages tools (air pressure or hand pressure) page 21

Working with SMP products Gunning application advice for Industrial sealants and adhesives page 22

Working with SMP products Calculation usage SMP products in cartridges and sausages page 23

Manual for structural window bonding Material used for windows: Glass (mineral) Accrylic(PMMA, organic) Carbonate (PC, organic) page 26

Manual for structural window bonding In general there are two options in windows Windows (Glass, PC,PMMA) with ceramic coating (frit) Windows (Glass, PC,PMMA) without ceramic coating The ceramic coating has two functions Protection of the adhesive against UV Visual aspect of the bonded window page 27

Manual for structural window bonding General info laminated windows Hardened laminated glass with a PVB or resin inner layer Added info regarding laminated windows: Do not cut squeezed out PVB foil away. PVB is in general a porous foil which contains an open cell structure and if damaged it can absorb water which can create white spots and delaminating between the two window panels Our MSR range will not harm any PVB or 2 K resin layer. But recommendations of the window supplier needs to be followed at any time. In general pre-treatments recommended by Bostik will not harm the PVB or the 2 K Resin layer used for laminated windows In general Prep G or Prep G plus will not harm the PVB or 2 K resin layer used for laminated windows Any damaged to PVB or 2 K resin layers needs to be avoided at any time, because it can influence the life time of the laminated window page 28

Manual for structural window bonding Window bonding with ceramic coating Pre-treat the edgesof the windowwithprepg Plus To have a 100% sustainable system it is advised to coat the edges of the windows with Bostik Prep G PLUS. Hereby also your sealing is protected by UV. UV blocked by ceramic coating UV attackmsr CA (SSKF) (when not protected with PrepG Plus) Simson MSR CA (SSKF) is protected byprep G Plus EDGE of window page 39

Manual for structural window bonding Window bonding with ceramic coating Distance keepers Use the distance keepers to control the thickness of the bonding line. Minimum thickness and width needs to be discussed with your engineering department or with the technical support of Bostik. Use weight holder to prevent the window for sliding. With our high green strength products clamping can be avoided in most cases. Apply a triangle bead of the MSR product Weight holders page 40

Manual for structural window bonding Window bonding with ceramic coating After bonding we advise a 24 hour curing process. Avoid condensation or cleaning water on the bonding line, recommendation will be to seal the window on the interior side. Clean the window on the exterior side with Cleaner I Apply masking tape on both sides of the seam Apply sealant into the seam and avoid air in closers After the seam has been sealed, a spatula can be used to level the seam and to remove the excess of MSR product page 41

Manual for structural window bonding Window bonding with ceramic coating Remove masking tape and, if needed, level the seam before the skin forming time with a small amount of soap mixed in tap water of with SimsonFinishing soap. This can be sprayed onto the seam and the seam can be levelled easily by hand. Never use lemon containing soapas this causes yellowing or degradation of the surface of the uses sealants and or used adhesives. page 42
