2 /Termination Bar Minus Brick Wrap R E S Firestone s Thru-Wall Flashing is a high performance, flexible membrane alternative for protecting masonry walls from water damage. It is based on EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) synthetic rubber an elastomeric rubber membrane with a tradition of superior performance in harsh environments including commercial roofing and environmental containment. Firestone s flexible 40 mil (1.02 mm) Membrane forms a barrier to moisture ingress in cavity wall construction by directing water to a building s exterior. I /Termination Bar With Brick Wrap D E N T Tape Detail With Brick Wrap Durability and high thermal and dimensional stability were two reasons why Firestone's was installed in window head locations, shelf angles and as base flashing in the construction of 192 prison cell blocks at the Western Correctional Institution, Cumberland, MD. 3 The Durable, Flexible Solution to Masonry Waterproofing... Firestone -- A High Performance Choice Firestone is a tough, resilient membrane that will remain flexible even after aging. It exhibits excellent uniaxial and multiaxial tensile, and hydrostatic features, enabling it to withstand typical stresses caused by point loading conditions in a masonry application while maintaining membrane integrity. Outstanding expansion and contraction characteristics contribute to 's success in the dynamic building environment. Firestone shows high resistance to corrosion, abrasion and wear when exposed to caustic materials present in, and used with, concrete and masonry. The material s high modulus, excellent thermal and dimensional stability, superior resistance to weathering, ultraviolet (UV) radiation and ozone also contribute to the membrane s durability. Firestone s will not chalk, stain or discolor masonry. Economical & Easy To Install Firestone EPDM Flashing Membrane is simple to install. Unlike rigid flashing materials that require special tools to install, Firestone's EPDM may be installed by hand with standard construction tools. Firestone's Thru-Wall Adhesive Tape is specially formulated for Thru-Wall Flashing applications and requires no contact adhesives or primers in the fabrication of field seams, corners or end dams. When used with Firestone's Thru-Wall Flashing Spray Primer, the tape will adhere EPDM Membrane to parapets, caps, lintels, windows, shelf angles and base flashing applications, without the need for additional contact adhesives or primers. Broad Product Line-- Greater Installation Freedom Product line diversity gives the specifier greater design freedom in the selection of the right Firestone EPDM Flashing Membrane and accessories for a particular application. Firestone provides a complete line of installation accessories with which to install Firestone including: Thru-Wall Adhesive Tape, Spray Primer, Polymer Batten Strip, Metal Termination Bar and Lap Sealant. Performance You Can Trust Firestone s commitment to producing quality rubberbased products began over a century ago. The company was founded on the premise that it would offer not only superior materials, but also complete systems from a single source. Starting with a single manufacturing facility, Firestone Building Products quickly increased capacity to meet customer needs, growing from one to twelve plants in North America and expanding into multiple product lines. The Specialty Products Group of Firestone Building Products is a leading supplier of flexible EPDM membranes to a variety of specialized construction, waterproofing, environmental containment and OEM applications. Firestone's membrane has excellent low temperature (to -49 F) flexibility properties, making it easy to handle and install year round. It is compatible with a variety of substrates and can be installed in mortar, exposed at the edge, or used in conjunction with a stainless steel drip edge. Complete specifications and installation guidelines are available upon request from Firestone. Approximately 10,000 lineal feet of Firestone's is installed at the Glenmount Storage Yard, Washington, DC, Metro Area Transit Authority (WMATA).
