3 Factors to Consider When Selecting Disposable Gloves It is estimated that 13 million workers in the United States are potentially exposed to chemicals that can be absorbed through the skin.* Disposable gloves offer protection from potential irritants and help prevent contamination. ComfortFlex gloves are engineered with different materials and compositions for protection, flexibility and strength. u 1. Consider Environment and Application Disposable gloves provide protection from incidental contact with hazardous materials such as solvents and acids and help keep high sanitation standards in applications such as food processing. Glove selection should be based on the type of exposure and the nature of the hazard. Protection Protecting the hand from environment or product Environment or product Chemicals Acids Hand Environment or product Sanitation Protecting the environment or product from contamination Hand Skin Cells Particulates Liquids Contaminants u 2. Consider Material Glove Barrier Glove Barrier Disposable gloves are available in a variety of materials to provide the best combination of protection, dexterity and cost for different applications. In-use performance can vary widely depending on the application. Choosing the right material is critically important. Pros XBest X puncture and abrasion resistance XResistant X to many chemicals and solvents XModerate X stretch Cons XSome X nitrile glove components can cause accelerator-related skin irritation Latex XBest X fit, comfort and flexibility XSuperior X grip in wet and dry environments XMay X cause allergic reactions in some individuals XOils X degrade latex gloves XExcellent X strength and stretch XGood X chemical resistance XMaterial X blend is costly XMay X cause allergic reactions in some individuals XCost-effective X solution for short-term use XEasy X on/off XLow X durability XLimited X dexterity XMost X economical choice for short-term use XEasy X on/off XDoes X not stretch XLow X durability *Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

4 u 3. Consider Material Strength Stronger gloves last longer and decrease chances of contamination. The strength of a glove (tensile strength) is determined primarily by the type and thickness of the material. Magid measures mil thickness at the fingertips, palm and cuff per ASTM requirements, but references only fingertip thickness. A thicker glove material generally provides a better level of protection, but a lower level of tactile sensitivity. Materials have inherently varying levels of strength. Latex Low Strength High Strength u 4. Consider Elasticity Elasticity is how far the glove will stretch before tearing or breaking. If a highly elastic glove snags, it will stretch and remain intact. A rigid glove will tear more easily. Higher elasticity can also reduce hand fatigue. An elastic glove will flex with the hand, while an inelastic glove will limit mobility. Latex u 5. Consider Finish and Length In wet or oily environments where precision is required, a textured glove can provide better grip and control. When the user needs additional protection from splashing, or if the glove will be immersed in liquid, an extended cuff can provide protection above the wrist. Texture Smooth Textured Standard Length Extended 9.5 Inches 12.0 Inches Additional Selection Criteria Colors can be associated with different parts of the manufacturing process, and can also provide unique benefits such as: XBlack X Hides dirt XBlue X Easily visible when working with food Powdered gloves Help the user easily put on the glove and minimizes sweating while wearing Powder-free gloves Eliminate the risk of airborne contamination

8 ASTM Specification and Testing Requirements Below are the accepted industry minimum requirements for each disposable glove material type. Disposable gloves are subjected to numerous ASTM tests throughout the manufacturing process with strict quality controls to meet or exceed the ASTM standards. All ComfortFlex gloves meet or exceed these standards. Latex ASTM D6319 ASTM D3578 ASTM D3578 ASTM D5250 ASTM D7329 Requirement Minimum Tensile Strength 14 Mpa 18 Mpa 18 Mpa 9 Mpa N/A Elongation 500% 650% 650% 300% 500% Cuff Thickness N/A N/A N/A N/A 0.018mm (1 Mil) Palm Thickness 0.05mm (2 Mil) 0.08mm (3 Mil) 0.08mm (3 Mil) 0.08mm (3 Mil) 0.018mm (1 Mil) Finger Thickness 0.05mm (2 Mil) 0.08mm (3 Mil) 0.08mm (3 Mil) 0.05mm (2 Mil) 0.018mm (1 Mil) Length 220mm (8.5 in) 220mm (8.5 in) 220mm (8.5 in) 235mm (9.25 in) 260mm (10 in) To convert mm to Mil, multiply mm X Key Terms Tensile strength a measure of the force required to pull a glove until it breaks. Elongation a measure of how much a glove can be stretched before it breaks. Thickness measured in millimeters (mm) in three locations fingertip, palm and cuff, thicker gloves may provide better protection but a loss of dexterity. Length a standard disposable glove is 9.5 inches (240 mm), longer gloves provide additional protection. FDA Compliance u The US Food and Drug Administration places regulations on three types of food additives direct, secondary direct and indirect food additives. u FDA Food Contact Regulations (21 CFR ) covers indirect food additives such as gloves in a list of materials that are inherently safe, classified as GRAS (generally recognized as safe). u The components in all of our gloves are CFR compliant and are acceptable for use in food handling applications.
