5 PRODUCT SAFETY AND HANDLING DATA SHEET Mardome Rooflights Manufacturer: Product Description: Handling: Stacking and Storage: Maintenance: Sandford Close Alderman s Green Industrial Estate Coventry CV2 2QU Brett Martin Daylight Systems Mardome Rooflights are made from polycarbonate glazing and PVC kerb, under an ISO9001:2000 approved design and manufacturing system. They are available clear, or with a diffused surface to provide even light distribution without loss of light transmission. They are also available with tinted or opal glazing. The polycarbonate weather surface has a co-extruded UV resistant layer to prevent ultra violet damage to the substrate. The PVC kerb is Lead & Cadmium free. Both the polycarbonate and PVC have been tested in accordance with BS476:part 7, and achieve a Class 1/TP(a) fire ratings. Brett Martin Daylight Systems Mardome rooflights may have sharp edges and corners and should be regarded as a hazard; protective measures such as gloves and safety clothing should be worn when handling. The domes should be handled by a minimum of two people and more where appropriate, the large domes and opening vents can be heavy and awkward to handle. Mardome rooflights are usually delivered in individual packaging facilitating unloading and manouvering by hand. Smaller domes are boxed whilst large domes are in protective packing on a pallet. For large orders domes may be stacked on a pallet. If forklifts are used to lift a stack care must be taken to avoid damage. Mardome rooflights should not be exposed to weather before installation. They should be stored indoors if possible, or under cover to prevent damage from rain and sun. Do not remove the protective packaging until ready to be installed, to protect against surface scratching. In typical UK conditions, we would expect these domes to remain serviceable well in excess of 20 years, subject to correct maintenance. Rooflights should be inspected for damage every year. Rooflights should be cleaned using warm water and mild detergent to prevent any growth which may attack the protective surface, or dirt accumulation which could lead to heat build up. For cleaning off spillages such as paint or bituminous products suitable solvents include: White Spirit; Isopropanol; Petroleum ether (BP 65); Butanol; Ethyl or Methyl alchohol. Always apply at room temperature and not in direct sunlight, then follow general cleaning instructions as above. The use of harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners must be avoided. Rooflights should not be painted over with an opaque covering. This can be dangerous, and may cause premature failure. COSHH DATA SHEET Mardome Dome Rooflights June 12

6 CDM Regulations: CDM Regulations require that all risks are assessed and minimised, but do not define any specific measures required to achieve this. HSE Guidance Notes to CDM Regulations refer to unprotected fragile roofing materials as a typical hazard to be avoided. Mardome rooflights can be regarded as non-fragile to ACR[M]001 when new and fully fixed, provided fixed to a roof assembly which is non-fragile without rooflights. For details on handling and installation recommendations see the relevant Technical Bulletins for the dome option. Health Data: Brett Martin Daylight Systems Mardome rooflights present no hazards to health. inhalation: There are no significant risks from inhalation. skin contact: There are no significant risks from skin contact. ingestion: The polycarbonate glazing and PVC kerb have very low toxicity and may be considered biologically inert eye contact: Treatment for particles of polycarbonate and PVC dust caught in the eye, (for example swarf from fasteners) is as for any other form of dust. Flush the eye with copious quantities of clean water and seek medical attention. Fire and Explosion Hazard Data: Brett Martin Daylight Systems Mardome Rooflights have been tested in accordance with BS476 part 7. They burn with difficulty and generally require a continuous external flame source to sustain combustion. Without flashover fire conditions they will tend to self extinguish. In the event of a fire cool with water. Alderman s Green Ind Est Coventry CV2 2QU Tel: daylight@brettmartin.com
