Preparation And Materials Before You Begin Dura Park Deck Type 140 from Dura Composites is unlike any other decking product on the market today. Spending a few minutes now to fully understand the installation process (as well as the performance advantages of Dura Park Deck) will enhance your installation experience and provide you with a completed project that will last for many years to come. To ensure you get the best results, we recommend working with a professional contractor with previous decking installation experience. Please also ensure that the guidance in this Technical Manual is strictly adhered to as improper installation including the use of non-approved trims, fixings and accessories will invalidate your product warranty. Before work commences, it is recommended that the site be compacted with a plate compactor (available at most hire outlets and hardware stores) to reduce settling.the site must be free draining or have a gradient of 1 in 100 (1%) which is equivalent to 10mm of fall for every 1m of deck) to allow water to run off otherwise there is a high risk of damp and mould build up beneath the deck. If your project circumstances are unusual, the guidance given within this document may not cover your specific installation scenario, so it is extremely important that you contact us on with any questions you may have regarding your planned install before you begin work. Safety First Keep children and pets away from the work area until the job has been completed and tools have been stored safely. Refer to the operators manuals for safety guidance on all power tools being used. When handling Dura Park Deck, always wear gloves with additional eye protection and work in a well-ventilated area. Do not burn PVC off cuts. Dispose of them safely as refuse. Wear eye protection when pressure washing or scrubbing. Dura Park Deck is NOT intended for use as columns, support posts, beams, joist stringers or other primary load bearing members. Please ensure that your proposed design meets any relevant local building codes and regulations before you begin the installation. 2

Tools Required Dura Park Deck Type 140 can be easily installed using a small number of tools. The list of tools and supplies you will need are as follows: Measuring Tape Table Saw or Chop Saw Cordless Drill Driver Jigsaw Scribe or pencil Safety Glasses Carpenter Square Skill Saw Taking time to choose the saw blade you will be using for your project is critical to the look and performance of your Dura Park Deck. For a smooth accurate cut, use a saw blade with a minimum of 80 teeth. Proper fastener choice is also a critical factor in the installation of your deck flooring. For optimal performance and ease of installation, Dura Park Deck stainless-steel screws are required. 3

4. Dura Park Deck - Key Considerations Static Electricity Static build-up is a naturally occurring phenomenon that can happen with many plastic products. Should you experience static-build up with your Dura Park Deck, rinsing the deck off with water from a garden hose typically resolves this issue. Thermal Expansion & Contraction Extremely warm or cold outdoor temperatures play a significant role in the installation and performance of all PVC based decking products. Dura Park Deck is no exception. All PVC products will exhibit linear thermal expansion and contraction with changes in temperature, and linear movement may be noticed in butt joints when this occurs. Following the expansion gap guide in this Technical Manual will help manage and reduce the effects of thermal expansion and contraction. Dura Park Deck PVC Decking provides installation advantages over other PVC products in that there is no manual side-to-side board gapping required. Deck designs that minimise butt joints and that are installed during normal or cooler seasonal temperatures will provide the best results. Please ensure that you allow Dura Park Deck PVC Decking to acclimatise to the exterior temperature before cutting and installing. Heavy Objects You should avoid installing heavy objects such as hot tubs or large planters on your Dura Park Deck decking area unless the underlying support bearer system is arranged (or has been suitably increased) to absorb any elevated direct load from above. For advice on your planned deck design, please consult your Dura Composites representative. Gapping Spaces for Butt Joints If your deck is longer than 3.66 metres, butt joints will be required. These joints should be staggered, as shown in the top drawing to the right to hide any minor gapping imperfections (or a breaker board can be used). Always ensure boards start and end on a bearer. See below for gapping requirements for butt joints. For best results allow Dura Park Deck boards to acclimatise to the install site for 24 hours and also remember that deck boards laid in the sun without protection will have expanded prior to install whereas boards in the shade will not have expanded. Try to store and pick the boards consistently especially during the summer months when maximum expansion occurs. Dura Park Deck boards will expand and contract slightly with changes in temperature. Expansion is most significant where extreme temperature changes occur and therefore please use expansion gaps in accordance with your region and the temperature at the time of the installation to accommodate for this movement. Where boards meet an adjoining fixed structure/post, please refer to the tables on the following page or leave a 6mm gap (whichever is the larger). 6

Recommended Gap Table (Dura Park Deck) Install Temp C Region Europe Gaps (mm) Middle East & Africa Gaps (mm) Board Length 1m 2m 3m 3.66m 1m 2m 3m 3.66m Extreme Heat Most outdoor building products can retain heat - especially after a long day in direct sunlight. Dura Park Deck is typically cooler than other decking products; however with all decks. the darker the colour the warmer the surface temperature will be, so if you are building a deck that will be in direct sunlight in high heat conditions, we recommend choosing our lighter Slate Grey color option. Although Dura Park Deck s sub surface fixings make it extremely barefoot friendly, please note that footwear may be required in extreme heat situations. Please also ensure that you allow for adequate air flow around gas and charcoal grills, and avoid splattering cooking grease. A fabric - backed grill mat can be placed under the grill to avoid grease spills. As is the case with all materials, external sources of heat will cause Dura Park Deck to increase in surface temperature. These heat sources include (but are not limited to) the following: Reflected sunlight by low emissivity or insulated glass in windows and door walls. Elevated surface temperatures caused by low emissivity glass may result in warping, sagging and/or increased thermal expansion and contraction of Dura Park Deck. Fire from exterior fireplaces, chimineas, fire pits, etc. could potentially lead to heat build-up and cause damage to your Dura Park Deck. If you have questions regarding these potential risks please contact Dura Composites prior to installation for recommendations on how to reduce or eliminate the temperature accumulation. Dura Park Deck is designed to replicate the appearance of real wood and has a woodgrain effect surface finish in two attractive colours Coffee and Slate Grey. Just as with natural wood, there will be a degree of colour and grain variation from board to board, so to achieve the most aesthetically pleasing look, it is recommended that you lay out your boards prior to installation. Be sure to pull boards from the pack randomly to achieve the look you want. Any colour variation that occurs will not affect the performance of the Dura Park Deck in any way. 7

Deck Preparation Installation and Technical Manual Decking & Landscaping 1. Choose the location and size of your deck First you will need to: A) Choose where you wish to install your deck B) The final dimension C) Choose which colour Dura Park Deck PVC Decking boards you want to use D) Decide on the orientation of your deck (i.e. the direction the boards will run) Be aware that very large or raised decks may require planning permission. Raised decks should not be built with the deck level more than 600mm above ground level without specialist advice. 2. Measuring The Area Once you have decided on the location of your deck, you should measure the length and width of the total area. Using a string line and pegs into the ground is a great way to measure and visualise your deck. Break down the area into smaller rectangles if you intend to build an unusual shape. Please refer to Dura Deck Quick Quote to assist with this process. 3. Deck Design Now that you know the size of your deck, next you must decide which deck board(s) you plan to use and which direction you wish the boards to run in each area. Boards can be laid horizontally, vertically or diagonally. If you have any questions about your deck design, please consult a Dura Composites representative prior to ordering your Dura Park Deck boards. 4. Maximum Clear Span Careful planning of your finished deck layout will result in better looking finished projects. It is the sole responsibility of the installer to be sure that Dura Park Deck meets all requirements for the intended use. Failure to follow these installation guidelines could void your warranty. Correct joist or bearer spacing is required for proper installation.the 'Clear Span' is an architectural term used to describe the distance between the two inside surfaces of the span supports; i.e. the distance that is unsupported. For Dura Park Deck the Maximum Clear Span is 400mm and this should not be exceeded. 8

5. Dura Park Deck Installation Installation and Technical Manual Decking & Landscaping Step 1 Step 1 Place the Start Trim flush and square with the edge of the first joist or bearer. Step 2 Step 2 Fasten the Start Trim using a 25mm A4 316 grade stainless steel screw placed into each of the pre-drilled holes of the trim. Step 3 Using the pre-drilled holes, fix the first Dura Park Deck board into the bearers at each 400mm point (3a), ensuring that you screw into at least every other predrilled hole as a minimum (3b). Step 3a Step 3b Please note that you may need to trim the board length in order to ensure that the holes align with the bearers. Where boards need to be installed end to end, please refer to the expansion gap guide requirements on page 7, paying particular attention to the ambient temperature. 9

Step 4 Step 4 Repeat the previous step for each consecutive Dura Park Deck board until you reach the last board. Cut the last board to width by ripping down on a table saw or skill saw. If your last board is not a full board and therefore an end trim cannot be used, you can use the Edge Trim to cover your exposed edge and either screw down or affix with a suitable bonding agent. Step 5 Fasten the last Dura Park Deck PVC Decking board, through the pre-drilled edge.repeat this process every 400mm along the outer joist edge. If using a self-produced optional End Trim, affix using suitable bonding agent. Step 5 Step 6 Option A for Edge Trim You now need to install the deck board trim edging. The Edge trim will snap into place over the ends of the exposed deck boards, and the edge of the last Dura Park Deck board installed. Screw trim edging as shown. Step 6 10

Step 7 Tightly fasten the trim edging to the deck boards from underneath using 25mm A4 316 grade stainless steel screws, one screw in each screw hole. Where the trim pieces meet, add additional screws from underneath the deck board, locating a screw 20mm from the corner on both sides of the joint to help manage the expansion and contraction of the material. Please refer to the expansion gap guide table on page 7. Step 7 Step 8 Option B for Edge Trim If your preference is to integrate your PVC Dura Park Deck with an existing PVC Balustrade, you can choose to use a PVC Fascia Board sourced from your local builder s merchant. This should be fastened to the bearers in the usual manner, covering all open edges of the boards to give a neat finish. The Dura Composites range of PVC Balustrading will be available in For more information please consult your Dura Composites representative. 11

6. Dura Park Deck Care & Maintenance Dura Park Deck is easy to care for and requires very little maintenance, saving you valuable time both now and in the future. Normal airborne pollutants and dirt from every day foot traffic can be easily washed away with a garden hose and spray nozzle. For tougher stains such as spillages from food or beverages, the following additional steps may be necessary: 1. Use a non-abrasive soap and water applied with a soft bristle brush. Work the brush in the direction of the deck board grain. Rinse thoroughly. 2. A power washer may be used to clean decking at a maximum of 1,500 PSI with a fan tip nozzle 12 inches above the deck surface. Spray in the direction of the deck board grain. Use caution not to damage the surface and always take the proper safety precautions when operating a pressure washer. Additional Considerations Mould & Mildew may appear on the surface of Dura Park Deck if it comes into contact with decomposed dead organic material. Any mould or mildew can be easily washed away with a garden hose or pressure washer as described above. Stubborn Stains: The best cleaner to use is just soap and water! No chemicals are needed with Dura Park Deck PVC Decking. If you choose to use additional detergents, it is best to complete cleaning during the early morning or evening hours when the deck surface is cool to prevent cleaners from drying and/or evaporating on the deck surface. When applying cleaners, spray the deck boards with a power washer or garden hose to prewet the deck surface. Follow the manufacturer s dilution and application instructions. It is important to thoroughly remove all cleaner from the deck surface. We recommend using a power washer in line with the instructions given above. 12

You Should Always Avoid the Following: Rubber or Vinyl Products Avoid using rubber or vinyl welcome mats, planters, tarps, pool toys or any other similar item on the surface of Dura Park Deck PVC Decking for any extended period of time. Additives in these items have a tendency to adhere to the surface of PVC boards and may discolour them. This is a common occurrence with all decking products with a PVC surface. Welcome mats, grill mats or other similar products can be used provided they have a fibre backing. Sun lotions & Bug repellents Sun lotions and bug repellents contain active ingredients that will react negatively with the Dura Park Deck in Slate Grey surface of any PVC based decking product. If these types of product come in contact with the surface of your Dura Park Deck PVC Decking, clean them off immediately. Check product labels and consult with the manufacturer as to the product compatibility with plastic materials prior to use on or near your deck. Furniture & Heavy Objects Take caution when moving metal chairs, patio furniture, heavy wood or metal planters, etc. as items such as these may scratch the surface of your Dura Park Deck PVC Decking. Citrus Based Cleaners The acid contained in citrus based cleaners may have a negative reaction to the surface of Dura Park Deck PVC Decking and therefore the use of citrus based cleaners is not recommended for this product. Ice and Snow Ice can be removed by calcium chloride. Snow can be removed with broom or plastic shovel. Do not chip ice or snow off of your Dura Park Deck PVC Decking with sharp edge tools or shovels as this may damage the deck surface. We hope you enjoy using your Dura Park Deck Type 140 PVC Decking for many years to come.
