Aarsleff Ground Engineering EXPERIENCE: Aarsleff s expertise as Ground Engineers is evidenced not only by its 25 years in UK construction and its dedicated staff, but in the decades of satisfied customers who have come to expect nothing but the best from Aarsleff Ground Engineering. CAPABILITY: Aarsleff works within the Rail, Commercial, Infrastructure, Energy and Residential market, delivering smart sustainable solutions to the country s most technically challenging foundation projects. Aarsleff has a full fleet of rigs, machinery and plant including Aarsleff s Junttan PM20 s and PMX22 s for the driven steel, concrete or timber pile installation, ABI Banut Rigs for residential sites with restricted, low headroom or difficult access, Movax Volvo Rigs for the installation of sheet piles and retaining walls and Boart, Klemm and Mait Baby rigs for its geotechnical services. IN-HOUSE: Aarsleff s in-house technical, estimating, design and manufacture teams gives it the capability to design and install various types of ground engineering and foundation solutions for a variety of clients and contractors. MULTI-DISCIPLINARY PACKAGE: Aarsleff Ground Engineering provide its clients with a multidisciplinary offer where the best service, techniques and commercial offering is delivered by our vastly experienced teams. It is a foundation package tailored to suit your project requirements, known by its clients as a One Stop Shop Solution.

Smart Sustainable Solutions 1. Soil Nails Aarsleff can offer soil nailing solutions as a cost effective method for long or short term stabilisation of steep existing or proposed slopes. The stability of the slope is maximised through the installation of steel or glass fibre threaded soil nails placed into pre bored holes or simultaneous drilling and installation techniques. The end results in conjunction with the correct drainage and surface protection reduces the chance of future ground movement. 2. Ground Anchors Aarsleff specialise in Ground Anchors and can carry very high loads depending on ground conditions where Soil Nails are not a viable option. Typical examples where Ground Anchors can be applied include supports to bored and sheet pile retaining walls, stabilising marine structures and cofferdams, anti-flotation for deep structures, tie backs to river and canal walls, dam upgrading, rock face stabilisation and the strengthening of dock structures. 3. Mini Piles Aarsleff specialise in the design and installation of cased mini piles using a variety of techniques from 100mm diameter to 600mm diameter. Mini piles are used in conjunction with steel reinforced ground beams to replace traditional footings when ground conditions become unfavourable. Mini piles are used to strengthen existing structures such as bridges, retaining walls and floor slabs. 4. SFA Piling (Sectional Flight Auger) Aarsleff have smaller rigs capable of installing SFA piles in areas with limited headroom, restricted access, noise restrictions, unstable ground conditions and open bore piles. The piling rigs can weigh as little as 1.5 tonnes and can install up to 450mm diameter piles in only 3.75m headroom.

5. Drilling & Grouting Aarsleff have the specialist plant and labour to carry out all types of drilling and grouting works from the filling of redundant coal mines to chemical injection using tube-a-manchette (TAM). Drilling and grouting can be used for consolidation, stabilisation, waterproofing and soil mixing to increase strength of soil and many other applications. 6. Gabion Baskets Aarsleff can offer Gabion Baskets to its clients. Gabions are used in many situations including the stabilisation of earth movement and erosion, river control, reservoirs, canal refurbishment, landscaping and retaining walls. They can be manufactured in welded mesh or woven wire. 7. Timber Crib Lock Installation Aarsleff can offer a timber crib retaining structure to suit most engineering, aesthetic and budget requirements. A timber crib retaining system is a cellular mass-gravity retaining wall. The finished structure s inherent weight and collective mass allows it to retain the target material without being destabilised. It is constructed using individual sections of interlocking pressure treated timber to form a framework which is then filled with aggregate during assembly to add weight and stability to the structure. Health and safety is an integral part of all its business operations. Aarsleff is OHSAS accredited, and has also gained a prestigious award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents for the ongoing focus on zero accidents within the workplace

Key Geotechnical Advantages 1. Soil Nails Maximise available land usage Minimise the interruption inherent in alternative approaches Especially effective in areas of environmental or architectural sensitivity Soil nail installation is advantageous at sites with remote and/or difficult access because smaller equipment is generally needed Soil nails are relatively flexible and can accommodate relatively large total and differential settlements 2. Ground Anchors Practical alternative to propping High loads can be obtained in relatively poor ground Duckbill and Platipus Anchors can be used in a variety of soil conditions Strand and Bar Anchors can be installed Lightweight and corrosion-resistant which make them suitable for a range of design life requirements and soil conditons Permanent and Temporary Solutions 3. Mini Piles Work extremely well both in tension and compression Speed of installation Can be installed in confined spaces Mini Piles cause minimal disturbance/vibration to adjacent structures during the installation With suitable ground conditions they can be installed cost effectively, with high load capacities Can be installed in areas presenting difficult access and/or overhead clearance Can be structurally incorporated into existing foundation systems Can work within low headroom in restricted working conditions Virtually vibration free Aarsleff have a wealth of experience in the design and installation of Geotechnical Solutions

4. SFA Piling Can work within low headroom in restricted working conditions Low noise and low vibration Ability to bore through masonry or concrete foundations Permanent liners can be incorporated as steel reinforcement or through very soft strata Rapid on-site set up 5. Drilling and Grouting Well established method Maintenance free Grouting can prevent against collapse of redundant voids associated with mine workings tunnels, sewers and culverts Speedy response Cost effective Sectional handover Can be performed in limited working space Optional grid spacing to value engineer solutions 6. Gabion Baskets Strong bases Reduce the velocity of running water Construction materials required are easy to transport to sites, easy to unload and place Resist breakage and separation, due to the flexibility of their wire mesh construction Aesthetically pleasing structures 7. Timber Crib Lock Installation Well established method Fast installation Durable Cost effective retaining structure Minimal site disruption during construction Aesthetically pleasing and natural appearance Requires no specialist equipment or machinery to install Minimum certified design life from 15 to 60+ years

Sheet Piling Solutions As a company who specialise in Sheet Piling, Aarsleff s work revolves around certain key construction features: permanent retaining walls; temporary sheet piling; conventional and marine sheet piling; steel bearing pile foundations; and temporary and permanent anchors. Our methodologies include the use of techniques such as silent, vibration-free piling and telescopic leader rigs, as well as conventional driving equipment. Permanent retaining walls utilising sheet piles are used on schemes large and small, from simple projects to complex slope stabilisation solutions. They offer cost effective alternatives to contiguous and secant concrete walls. Whatever the client s remit, problem or challenge, if it involves sheet piling, we can engineer an approach to help fulfil or tackle it. Aarsleff offer the following Sheet Piling solutions: Propped Walls Cantilever Anchored Walls King Sheet Piled Walls (KSP) Steel-Bearing Pile Foundations Conventional and Marine Sheet Piling Permanent Retaining Walls Temporary Sheet Piling Sheet Pile Basements/Underground Carparks
