3 What is Stewardship?? Responsibility for actions today which influence the protection and values of future generations. Implies that ownership of the land is temporary. An ethic in which humans care for the land as one part of the natural system. To participate in environmental stewardship is to make a personal commitment to the land and water and to sustain and enhance it for generations to come.

10 Ontario Stewardship Councils 41 Volunteer, Not-For For-Profit Community Stewardship Councils reflect the demographics of the community MNR provides a staff person and a small amount of seed money ($10K/year) to assist the council Councils create the capacity to help people help themselves.

Addresses the need for efficient, empowering, community based,, and government supported program. Increasing the sophistication of citizen activity (State of Res. Reports, Strategic Plans). Autonomy is our strength but also our challenge.
