Potato Solutions HAULM REMOVAL

The Syngenta Potato Portfolio (Seed crops only) * * Dovetail is now revoked and may only be applied up till 31 st July 2012

Outline recommendations Max Total dose 5l/ha Max Individual dose 4l/ha l/ha water No pre-harvest interval but allow at least 14 days after main treatment for skin set Split or single dose Use SMART test if first application over 1 l/ha DO NOT ADD ANY WETTER OR ADJUVANT this is a Label Requirement

The Confident Recommendation One product solution for all crop situations and weather conditions... The most widely used method of haulm destruction in the UK... Technically the best desiccant on the market FAST, SAFE, FLEXIBLE, LEAF & STEM

REGLONE STOPS BLIGHT FAST Effect of Reglone on Blight Infected Leaves Source: KALKDIJK & SCHEPERS PAV HOLLAND 2000 Potato plants inoculated with a blight spore suspension and incubated until visible sporulation observed. 3 l/ha Reglone or 0.25 l/ha carfentrazone + oil applied in 400 l/ha water to the plants. 48 hours after treatment fresh unsprayed potato leaves placed in contact with the lower sporulating part of the treated leaves. The non-treated leaves incubated for 6 days and then assessed for number of leaves with blight lesions present. See next slide for results

REGLONE STOPS BLIGHT * U/T Reglone 3 l/ha carfentrazone oil % Leaflets With Lesions * = Significantly Different from Untreated and carfentrazone LSD = 27.6 See next slide for interpretation

Reglone + Shirlan STOPS Blight Fast!! Reglone treatment significantly reduced the viability of blight on treated leaves within 48 hours. Carfentrazone had no significant effect. Reglone s rapid action quickly deprives blight of healthy leaf to thrive on. Reglone + Shirlan is the best option for growers who wish to preserve tuber quality. NOTE - Continue to maintain a rigorous Shirlan fungicide regime until all green leaf has gone.

Flail and Reglone Programme Reglone 1.5 l/ha (SMART test passed) Flail (7 days later) Reglone 2.5 l/ha (3 days later) Reglone 1.0 l/ha (12 days later)

No Flail Programme Reglone 2.0 l/ha (SMART test passed) Reglone 2.0 l/ha (7 days later) Reglone 1.0 l/ha (15 days later)

In Spring 2011 we asked growers: What are the key benefits of Reglone? They replied: Reliable and consistent in its performance even in wet, overcast conditions Flexibility in its use, all crop situations. Plus variable rates Rapid defoliation of leaves and quick stem kill Fast skinset, essential for storage Reliable control of tuber size, important when growing salad varieties and seed Makes harvesting trouble free and straight forward Tuber safe when using split dose applications Stops blight in its tracks (dries up blight) Cost effective Protocol approved Compatible with SHIRLAN, protecting tubers against blight REGLONE puts me in control of my desiccation and harvest management

R ainfast in 10 to 15 minutes E asy to use in all desiccation weather scenarios G ood to fill, rinse and spray L ow cost O nly need to buy one product N ot all diquats are Reglone E xcellent results consistently with Reglone

NOT ALL DIQUATS ARE REGLONE... Grower Split field trial (Yorkshire) after initial application of 1.5l/ha applied T2 1.5 l / ha 1.5 l / ha Generic Note: Syngenta have not tested all the generic products available on the market

Application Recommendations for Reglone desiccation Use Potato Nozzles facing alternately forward and backward for improved defoliation + less drift Recommended water volumes: l/ha for dense or hard to kill haulm 200 l/ha for senescing crops or follow up split applications Use Orange 05 Potato Nozzle at km/h Use Gold 04 Potato Nozzle at 8 10 km/h

Application Recommendations (Non-Desiccation ) Option 1 - Syngenta Potato nozzle Alternate Potato nozzles to face fore and aft along the boom to improve coverage and penetration 04 Gold nozzle for 8-10 km/hr 05 Orange nozzle for km/hr Water volume l/ha Option 2 Syngenta Defy nozzle for residual herbicides Alternate Defy nozzles to face fore and aft along the boom to improve coverage all sides of soil clods Water Volume 100 l/ha
