1 Internatial Seed Workshop Organized by Seed hysiology Lab Department of Crop Physiology University of Agriculture, Faisalabad - Pakistan

2 OVERVIEW & OBJECTIVES Seed industry in the 21 century has become great challenge for sustainable agriculture producti. Seed is primary propagating material and seed quality is thus vital for successful and sustainable crop producti. Seed technology embraces breeding for evaluati and release, producti and physiology for seed development, processing, storage, testing and certificati while unscrupulous business practices and lack of knowledge in the seed marketing have led to legislati of seed act. Due to large gap between the certified seed supply and producti, the import has sharply increased. Key drivers of this increase include the multinatial seed companies, the increased availability of F1 hybrids; protecti of intellectual property, an increasing use of counter-seas producti and the development of GM crops. Futile delivery system for agricultural technology and seed business has reflected in terms of remoteness between public and private sector. The significance of seed technologists and seed analysts has been realized due to increased demand of quality seeds in both public and private seed sectors. Seed Physiology Lab in department of Crop Physiology offers wide range of facilities from testing to seed enhancement, capacity building and seed programs encompassing all aspects of seed biology, producti and management. Keeping in view the formidable challenges to the seed industry and delivery system in the country, department of Crop Physiology is organizing two days workshop Seed Physiology, Producti and Management to provide a plate form for professials, faculty, students and seed industry people to share the knowledge, future research prospects, build up strg linkage and trade policy about seed sector of the country. The leading seed scientists from USA and Germany alg with local experts will deliver their lectures during this course. This seed activity will also be of benefit to field representatives, crop csultants, growers and others who wish to learn more about breeding, producti, quality assurance, cditiing, technology and marketing. During this seed activity, the participants will be provided with a latest literature related to seed technology. A number of latest seed books will be displayed during this seed course. Seed companies and people who are involved in seed products and manufacture of seed equipments will display their products during this seed activity. At the end of course, seed scientists and seed business people will sit together for exploring the possibilities of collaborative projects in seed technology area in the country.
