2 SLU in Sweden SLU has national responsibility for research and education in veterinary medicine, forestry, agriculture and landscape planning. SLU s main campuses are located in Umeå, Uppsala, Skara, and Alnarp. 9 Period 1 (Sep-Nov) Euroforester MSc programme Autumn semester YEAR 1 Compulsory courses Period 2 (Nov-Jan) Period 3 (Jan-Mar) Spring semester Period 4 (Mar-Jun) Sustainable Forestry in Southern Sweden, 15.0 credits Planning in Sustainable Forest Management, 15.0 credits National and International Forest Policy, 15.0 credits Broadleaves: Forest dynamics, biodiversity, and management for multiple goals 15.0 credits YEAR 2 (1 semester Elective courses and 1 semester compulsory) Period 1 (Sep-Nov) Autumn semester Period 2 (Nov-Jan) Spring semester Period 3 and 4 (Jan-Jun) During year 2 students have different options: - Silviculture of temperate forests,15.0 credits - Elective courses at partner Universities 30 credits - MSc thesis in Forest Sciences or MSc thesis in Biology, 30 credits MSc thesis could be joint between home university and SLU!

10 Sustainable Forestry The subject of the 1st course is silviculture of conifers, with these issues dealt with at the stand level, the course examines how silviculture influences forest development and biodiversity. Guest lectures from forest sector in the region + field excursions Focus on actualities

11 Forestry planning The 2nd course moves up to the estate level (private owned forest ~ 50 % of Swedish Forest), and addresses the principles and practice of sustainable management and the multiple use of forests. The students also prepare long-term forest management plans for a large estate. Field studies in Östad.

12 Communication International policies New governance Forestry Managing forest resources Actors, interests Social change Property rights National & International Forest Policy Markets Policy instruments The 3rd course regards forest policies at the national, regional and global levels. Much attention is put into comparative policy analyses among countries in the Baltic Sea region. International guest lectures

13 Broadleaves Nature Conservation, Silviculture Ecology and the use of broadleaved forests are the themes addressed in the 4th course. The impact of modern forestry on biological diversity is discussed together with measures and strategies for preserving the rich flora and fauna of these forests.

16 Scholarship for students from network universities The scholarships are from IKEA or Skogssällskapet (only for Baltic countries). The scholarship will be approximately 8000 sek (around 820 Euro) per month (9 months totally). We also reimburse for travelling to Sweden and back to home country. From the scholarship you pay approx sek for accommodation/month (around 390 Euro) Please observe that the scholarship is only given the 1:st year.

18 Application Requirements: BSc degree English 6 Master student Application deadline: MSc first round 15 January-18 (second round 16 April- instructions ONLY in Swedish) Application handle by central administration of the university + Once admitted to a MSc program you can easily apply for the courses, incl. Master thesis. + You can do a MSc in Sweden and also one from your homecountry + The process to get the Diploma is much easier. Exchange student To comes as Exchange student is kind of a VIP lane. The requirements are not the same as for MSc studies. SLU do not check English it is up to the sending University, and there are no demands on having a BSc, you can come on your 3 year of studies. Application deadline: The application period for the Autumn semester or a whole academic year is 15 March-15 April + Not so hard requirements You can be exchange student up to 10 months= 2 semesters. - Can t do MSc thesis during exchange
