Reduce trash dumping on state land. Soil and topography: Surface sediments consist of lacustrine sand and gravel and minor dune sand. The glacial drift thickness varies between 30 and 100 feet. Beneath the glacial drift are the Devonian ntrim Shale and Traverse Limestone. The ntrim and Traverse are quarried for clay/shale and limestone/cement products five miles to the northeast and two miles to the west. Drift thickness is greater in the compartment relative to the surrounding area. Therefore, bedrock nonmetallic mineral potential is lower and sand and gravel potential is greater. former gravel pit is located Section 26 and possibly one in Section 25. This area has had no drilling for oil and gas. The ntrim Shale is pinching out in this area and production is unlikely. There are no State oil and gas leases in the area. Ownership Patterns, Development, and Land Use in and round the Compartment: Most nearby land is additional state land. Private land is a mix of hunting lands, residential and some farming. lpena County Regional irport lies a few miles to the east. Unique Natural Features: In 1955, a special concern species was spotted within several miles of this compartment. rcheological, Historical, and Cultural Features: None Reported Special Management Designations or Considerations: None Watershed and Fisheries Considerations: No special considerations exist for this compartment. Wildlife Habitat Considerations: The primary focus of wildlife habitat management will be to address the habitat requirements identified for the listed featured species found in this compartment. These species include ruffed grouse, black bear, and white-tailed deer. Based on the selected featured species, some of the most significant wildlife management issues in the management area are the maintenance of lowland habitat, rotational aspen management when available, and the maintenance and expansion of hard mast and mesic conifer components. Mineral Resource and Development Concerns and/or Restrictions ll state land in this compartment has been classified as non-development. Surface sediments consist of lacustrine (lake) sand and gravel and minor dune sand. The glacial drift thickness varies between 0 and 10 feet. Beneath the glacial drift are the Devonian ntrim Shale and Traverse Group. Vehicle ccess: this area has two main two tracks running through the stand. One is located in the north half off of Little road and the other is Lancaster trail in the southern half of the stand. 2 Surveying will be required to prove trespass on south east part of the stand. Recreational Facilities and Opportunities: There is a lot of predator, deer, and bear hunting in the area. Fire Protection: This compartment is located in the protection area of the lpena DNR and the Maple Ridge Fire Department. Maple Ridge Township Fire department would most likely arrive on scene first due to the location of their station. The lpena DNR has mutual aid agreements with Maple Ridge Township Fire Department. Fires in this area have not been large in the past due to the timber type.
