6 GOOD THINGS COME IN TREES. More and more industries have come to appreciate the qualities of CO 2 -neutral wood. The properties of renewable forests are just as versatile as their applications. But this renewable raw material derives its vitality from numerous individual characteristics that reflect its organic source. Some distinctive features of natural wood products include: GRAIN & KNOTS Grain and knots vary from wood to wood and tree to tree. They are not a mark of inferior quality but rather the fingerprint of each tree, just as individual and variable as with each person. COLORATION The natural color also changes after processing. There can be natural color changes over time due to UV radiation. If the wood is exposed to weather, it will turn gray. DRYING CRACKS Drying cracks and warping occur due to different densities and wood structures. They are generally acceptable and are not subject to any restrictions in terms of width, length, and depth. They have no impact on the static properties or strength of the wood. SWELLING & SHRINKING Absorption and release of moisture can cause swelling and shrinking of the wood. These will affect the volume. In the vernacular, one says that the wood is working. It is necessary to consider these natural variations during planning. 6

7 PLANED TIMBER SAWN TIMBER RESIN BLEEDING Resin bleeding is a natural process of softwood. The visible traces of resin can be easily eliminated by careful scraping and sanding of the surfaces. SOLID WOOD PANELS BLUE STAIN Wood can be affected by blue stain during warm and wet climate conditions. Blue stain does not destroy wood but rather merely represents an optical change. GARDEN TIMBER ROUGH AREAS Due to wood fibers that run opposite to the machining direction rough areas in the wood are sometimes unavoidable. We therefore always pay attention to very careful processing. Uneven, rough areas are occasionally unavoidable when cross-cutting. SALT EFFLORESCENCE Salt efflorescence occurs with impregnated wood. Copper salts penetrate deep into the wood to protect against mold and insect attack. Harmless colored deposits can appear on the surface.
