Werner Logging is different than most other logging operations in our Central Hardwood Region. In addition to traditional veneer log and saw log harvests, this company is one of the few that have integrated the removal of scragg logs for pallet parts as well as clean chips for pulp. This allows for nearly 100 percent utilization of material down to a 4 inch DBH stem. Depending on haul distance, the company also produces whole tree chips for boiler fuel. This allows for utilization of the stem and top. The company participates in the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for Chain of custody (CoC) as well as CW certification. Tim Werner is a trained logger in both Indiana and Kentucky. Tim and the company have been recognized as Indiana Logger of the Year and have a long family history in the business. Harvesting equipment used consists of feller buncher, four grapple skidders, knuckle boom loader with slasher, Peterson 4800E Flail Debarker, 800 horse power Morbak chipper with grapple feeder, and all support equipment. The field tour is dependent upon weather conditions and site availability. Participants must bring their own personal safety equipment including hard hat and closed toe leather boots.
