2 hours and up to 40 hours/week) Flexible start date with a 3-month duration LOCATION: CLOSES: Battle Ground, Washington January 15, 2018 POSITION PROFILE: This unique educational opportunity is located in the Product Sales Program of DNR's Pacific Cascade Region. Foresters in the DNR carry out land management activities such as timber sale design, reforestation and road design, construction and maintenance. This internship program will provide experiences in these activities and provide an opportunity to work with professional Foresters, Engineers, Biologists as well as an exposure to other disciplines that assure appropriate management activities are conducted in a responsible manner. Pacific Cascade Region is composed of 450,000 acres of DNR managed Trust Lands that produce revenue for the trust beneficiaries. The internship program will provide valuable experiences in forest management principles, as well as an understanding of WA Dept. of Natural Resources core mission, history and objectives. The internship program is designed to give students educational and hands-on field experience in a variety of duties that will include: Identification of streams, wetland and sensitive sites and protection measures during management activities Harvest unit design Financial analysis GIS and GPS technology use and mapping Design of harvest systems and opportunity to observe active harvest and road construction equipment Reforestation activities including vegetation management and decision criteria to plantation tending Wildlife, geologic and silvicultural assessments QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must be a student majoring Forest Management, Forest Operations, Forest Engineering, Silviculture, Natural Resource Management or related field and will be returning to school in a following quarter/semester. LOCATION: CLOSES: Port Angeles, Washington January 15, 2018 POSITION PROFILE: This position will assist the Straits District of Olympic Region with meeting timber volume deliverables for FY '19 harvest plan. Work includes all aspects of timber sale layout including but not limited to stream typing, wetland identification, harvest unit marking, leave tree selection, cruising, road layout and harvest delineation. Additionally, this position will assist with contract compliance including timber harvest, road building, fish pipe/bridge installations, and silviculture contracts. Office work includes the completion of timber sale maps using ArcGis and environmental documentation for proposed timber sale activities. QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must be a full-time student majoring in a Natural Resource degree program (Forest Management, Forest Operations, Forest Science, Silviculture, Forest Engineering or other closely related program) and will be returning to school in a following quarter/semester.
