11 Who is ACB ACB is an intergovernmental regional centre of excellence established through an agreement among the Governments of the Member States of ASEAN. ACB reports to the ASEAN Secretariat, ASOEN who constitute the Governing Board; ACB coordinates its activities through AMS Contact Points. ACB focuses on 12 thematic areas that are of global and regional importance and that reflect the commitments primarily towards the CBD and with other multilateral environmental agreements such as CITES and RAMSAR, among others, for which the majority of the ASEAN Member States are Parties. GIZ provides technical and financial support to ACB from 2010 to 2015.

12 ACB facilitates cooperation and coordination among ASEAN Member States and with relevant national governments, regional and international organizations on the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity. ACB builds strategic networks and partnerships geared to mobilize resources towards optimally augmenting effective programs on biodiversity conservation.

13 ACB CORE OBJECTIVES Provide a framework and mechanism for sharing information, experiences, best practices and lessons learned for efficient access by AMS Facilitate discussion and resolution of cross-country biodiversity conservation issues Provide capacity building and technology transfer services Enhance common understanding of biodiversity conservation issues to strengthen compliance with multilateral agreements on biodiversity Promote public and leadership awareness of the values of biodiversity

15 GIZ ACB Biodiversity and Climate Change Project - BCCP Project Objective: ACB is equipped with advisory strategies and instruments to advise AMS on biodiversity conservation related measures of climate protection and adaptation to climate change. Objective of EU-Combi Module: Enhancing the economics for ecosystem services in South-East Asia: Instruments for biodiversity conservation through payment mechanisms for ecosystem services in designated areas in Thailand as a model for South-East Asian countries Further fields of interest will be developed under supplementary financing from BMZ (approved). The offer is under preparation.
