The Blue Streak features a 65-hp Cummins diesel engine running a full hydraulic system. For a quick setup, the 9,000-pound machine will have the tandem axle trailer package. In past Shoot-Outs, the Blue Streak has been a top contender, producing lumber at the rate of over 1,200 board feet per hour. This year, Baker will rely on manual-controlled setworks making this an ideal machine for Amish sawyers. We ll soon find out how the human eye compares to the computer! While this is the smaller of the two models built by EZ Boardwalk, its 30-inch-diameter capacity is larger than most manual sawmills. Its angled track and spring assist head lift are unmistakably EZ Boardwalk features. A few of the innovations built into this mill are quickclamp dogs, single control for clutch and blade lube, and blade guard. This mill demonstrates that a small manual mill can produce quality lumber at a respectable pace. 2 CONTINUED SHOO EZ Boardwalk Model 40 EZ The sky-blue EZ Boardwalk sawmill has been a regular at the Shoot-Out for over a decade, and has consistently ranked highly among the manual sawmills. The unique slanted head feeds the blade through the log with minimum effort and gives straight, smooth cuts. Other innovations include a coil spring to help raise the mill head and a bumper to prevent the blade from cutting into the log stops. Although the mill has not changed in appearance, EZ Boardwalk is always making refinements based on customer feedback. They move their swingblade mill in place by hand, just as many sawyers do in remote Australian forests. The Lucas team is known for its innovative cutting techniques. In the 2013 Shoot-Out, they set all four logs inside the mill frame and milled them without having to move any logs. This technique gave them an edge, as they set a Lucas mill Shoot-Out record of 634 board feet per hour. They will no doubt have more new techniques to show off this year. 6 Sawmill & Woodlot

This mill features a 36-inch log capacity and a number of innovative features, including an auto-locking sawhead, Hydraulic winch log loading system, and flexible clamping system. The HD36 can be upgraded to a fully hydraulic configuration anytime. The towing package is highway legal and the 1,800-pound mill converts from towing to milling in about 10 minutes. This mill is popular with professional sawyers, woodworkers, homeowners, farmers, and tree services. Norwood Sawmills LumberPro HD36 Hydraulic The Norwood LumberPro HD36 Hydraulic is a modular sawmill, featuring Build-As-You-Go hydraulics design. The modular design allows the owner to purchase the desired hydraulic loghandling equipment, as and when he chooses. The robust frame and track are well suited to the additional weight and stress of hydraulic log handling. The mill at the Shoot-Out will include a hydraulic log lifter, toeboards, clamps, chain turner, power feed, and power setworks. A 23-hp engine powers the blade, while a separate 5-hp engine handles the hydraulics. 4 SHOO CONTINUED Peterson WPF Swingblade sawmills are always favorites at the Shoot-Out, and Peterson is returning with their flagship 10-inch Winch Production Frame (WPF) model. This mill uses a 35- hp Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engine to power a circle blade that can make up to a 10-inch-deep cut into a log. With the flip of a handle, the blade rotates 90 degrees and on the return trip cuts off an edged board ready for the lumber pile. The mill is highly portable, weighing only 750 pounds and can be easily transported to the woods in a pickup truck, and set up to cut a log right where it lies. The JP s blade can make a 6-inch-deep cut, and the head rotates to any angle making it practical for milling clapboards, octagons, and other non-square shapes. Peterson considers this an entry-level machine, designed for part-time sawyers to cut their own lumber for home and farm projects. The mill features several innovations including a one-piece welded sawhead frame, counterbalanced head lift, and the single-action lever control for the throttle, clutch, and blade lube. 7 T OUT PREVIEW Turbo Saw Warrior M10 Auto (4SA) The Warrior M10 Auto is another first for the Great Portable Sawmill Shoot- Out! This will be the mill s first public showing anywhere in the U.S. Built in New Zealand, this swingblade mill has a number of innovations. A single steel beam supports the engine and swingblade mechanism. The mill is capable of a 10-inch-deep cut, and can double cut to produce a 20-inch-wide board. The sawyer s job is made easier with the power feed and the automatic rotation of the cutting head at the end of each cut. The sawyer can easily run the mill with one hand and hold a cup of coffee in the other, says Mike Moen, the U.S. distributor. 8 SHOOT OUT Wood-Mizer LT15 The Wood-Mizer LT15 will be back for its fourth Shoot-Out this year. This manual sawmill is popular among woodworkers and homeowners, but also finds its way into successful small businesses due to its versatility. The LT15 can handle logs up to 28 inches in diameter and 17 feet 8 inches long with the ability to saw unlimited log lengths with bed extensions, so it should have no problem with the Shoot-Out logs this year. The Wood- Mizer team usually has some productionenhancing techniques up their sleeves, and it will be interesting to see what they come up with.
