3 The main historical facts 1819 Department of Agriculture at Vilnius University Academy of Agriculture founded in Dotnuva (faculties of Agronomy and Forestry) Academy moved to campus outside Kaunas (+ faculty of Economics and Management) ACADEMY renamed to the UNIVERSITY Academy moved to Kaunas city (+ faculties of Agricultural Engineering and Water and Land Management) name has changed to Aleksandras Stulginskis University.

15 The University scientists take part in the activities of European programmes such as FRAMEWORK, EUREKA and INTERREG. Some of the scientific projects are ordered by economical subjects in Germany, Finland, Hungary, etc. University scientists carrying out more than 100 research projects each year.

16 Challenges & possibilities for R&D in ASU In 2008 the establishment of research, studies and business centre valley Nemunas - was initiated with the purpose to concentrate research, studies and business potential in agriculture, forestry, water and food husbandry, as well as human resources and R&D infrastructure for the implementation of perspective R&D projects in the fields of agro-biotechnologies, bioenergetics, forestry, food technologies, safety and healthiness, for training of highly qualified specialists and for passing knowledge to private business.
